I get what you're saying. I think I like Pulp Fiction more now than I did the first time. Also, I hate it when I think I like a film because I'm supposed to, you know?

And have you ever noticed that the yelling woman in the beginning of Pulp Fiction doesn't yell the same thing at the end of the film? In the beginning, it's just one take of her yelling something like "Any of you ****ing pricks move, and I'll execute every mother****ing last one of ya!", whereas in the end, that take is combined with another take, shot from the side and she yells something different in the second part of her sentence. So it's something like "Any of you ****ing pricks move, and I'll execute every of you mother****ers!".

I hate it when great films have flaws like that. (Although I read that that 'flaw' was intended, to imply that the scene at the end is shown through Jules' eyes.)

I'll number the things I want your thoughts on, so you don't forget one.

It's a funny movie, and it's definitely cult. It's obviously one of the best films in its genre. I like it better than Burn after Reading. I can see why it is cult, and wasn't a commercial success, but I don't think it's as good as, say, Pulp Fiction (or Fight Club for that matter).

The thing with films is, it's not meant to be only liked after seeing it more than 1 time. It's different from a music album in that respect. So it's only logical that some films make you go WTF when you think about it a day later, or when you talk about it with friends, instead of instantly making you go wow. A bit like some South Park episodes.

1. Have you seen Burn after Reading? Thoughts? Compared to other Coen films?

2. And The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou? (I see it as Coen-like humor with a touch of Monty Python.) Think it will become cult?

3. Also, it might be true that the characters are more recogniseable for Americans. There are shows that are hilarious to watch if you're Belgian, but I can imagine that it comes across rather surreal to people from larger countries (read: pretty much anywhere else). Just watched The Big Lebowski. It was alright. I really laughed at some things Walter said. Some hilarious quotes in there.

I'm not sure why it is considered such a great film though. It's really comical, but it's not fantastic, film-wise. Any thoughts?

Yeah I visit your blog from time to time, since I've got a passion for films myself. My plan when I was 15 years old was to go to film school, but my folks told me to achieve something 'decent' before doing that. But whatever.

I saw Heat this weekend. I liked it but had been expecting more. I think The Departed, for example, is better. Granted, there's ten years between those films, but I just thought Heat would be better.
