Yeah me too. I wouldn't be surprised if he got a longer sentence as an exception. Whether that will lead to other changes to their system is an interesting question. Remember though that in Norway, like in NZ (similar population), every single murder is front page news for a week. I think, this case aside, people are just not as concerned about crime.

It probably sounds weird from your perspective. Don't they give out 700+ year sentences in the States? Had this happenned here, 22 years would probably be on the higher end of what he could receive. I'd imagine there'd be no parole (because not only do we have short sentences, but they're rarely if ever fully served).

I'm not sure what I think. I think for most murderers, ~20 years is suitable. But for this guy, I'm not so sure. It shouldn't be a 'punishment' as such, but a place to hold him until he is no longer a threat to the public. Why spend anymore of the public's money on this man than you need to?

EDIT EDIT: Unprecedented killings require an unprecedented sentence. I don't think they should change what they've got though. The US system is penalising, not restoratative. There's a reason you have a high crime rate, and high recidivism rate, whereas Norway has neither.
