From what I do know, Freddy comes into your dream and kills you? I think I've seen some of those Freddy Moments videos on YouTube, and he seems quite comical in that Freddy vs Jason movie.

Well, about the child molester thing. Wes Craven originally planned on making Freddy a child molester in the original, since he believed that's the most evil thing a person could ever do, but there was a whole lot of cases of child molestation being brought to public attention during that time, so it was rewritten for Freddy to be a child murderer. The rest of your points seem pretty valid though.

I guess you got to see the remake, eh? Sorry to hear that it was a disappointment... I think the new CG stuff that they used for Freddy's design did look a little ridiculous when I did some searches on him. Ah well...
