Question free trial vs paying to play, how did you start?

I wanted to start up with playing with the monthly fees, but I was advised to try the free trial first. I ask you, which method did you choose to start with?

The Trial IMO its always best to see if you like the game before paying for it

I dove straight into the game, but it's because there were 15+ people from here who were all super-active in the game at the time and they got me into it relatively early.

It's best to start with the trial. If you decide to continue playing the game after the two weeks trial period, you can keep your characters.

Anyway, note that Final Fantasy XIV will come out next year. Square Enix said that they do not intend to replace FFXI with FFXIV but I guess that players would want to switch to the new game since it would have more features.
