X-Men 4?

MY THOUGHTS:


I do want to see this, but I'm perfectly fine with waiting until they have the right story and somebody who has the plan and desire to make it right. I for one thought the 3rd film was actually quite decent. While not my favorite of the 3, I did think it did it's job and was well produced, and I certainly don't find it to be so bad to be an automatic end of the series. A 4th could go a long way to establishing a new direction and bigger plots.

After the 3rd film, I don't think Beast would be back in the lineup. Storm was left as the defacto leader, and of course Wolverine would have to be there. I do think Rogue would be back as I'm pretty sure the whole cure thing will be explained away as temporary, and she may even discover this by accidentally stealing somebody's powers, thereby giving her a much stronger power set.

So we would have Storm, Wolverine, Iceman, Rogue, Collosus, Kitty Pryde and Angel. Professor X will clearly be back as well. Not a bad lineup. And we may see a character like Havok to come in as a link to Cyclops, or Gambit brought in as well.

That leaves us with a few interesting stories including the exploration of Angels character, and the development of a Kitty relationship with Colosus after Iceman returns to Rogue. Also Peter's backstory could be fleshed out. If Havok is brought on, we could learn a lot more about the Summers backstory, and that could lead well to what I think a new trilogy could bring, which I think may focus on some Mr. Sinister/ Apocalypse shenanegins.

Before I get to that, the Brotherhood is also looking strong with Magneto, Multiple Man, Juggernaught, Pyro, and perhaps a returned Mystique. We could get some others to jump in there and maybe even a return of Sabertooth to finish of the story left over from the Wolverine Spinoff. That could be fun. And who knows who else could be tossed in here, but this is a nice group.

Now just looking at a 4th film, they could start it off nicely with a threat from Sinister who is doing some testing on the Summers line, which would offer an opportunity for Havok to jump in if need be. Perhaps Sinister even creates Stryfe or Cable, or both, and he's the basis for this story. Clearly that could lead to a story for the arrival of Apocalypse in a future film.

But another strong possibility that's already been hinted at, and one that's more grounded in practicality would be the arrival of Trask as a main villian and his creation of Sentinals to track down mutants. After the events of 3, it would be quite reasonable to see a new president who is more prone to action and would give Trask this ability. A Sentinal showdown in an X-Men film could be amazing and a classic story as well. Perhaps if they go this route, Sinister could even remain as a minor sidestory to be developed towards an apocalypse film.

What do you guys think. Is a 4th film even possible? Would this be the general direction to take, or would you prefer something else?

Technically X-Men origins is the 4th but I understand what you mean, a sequel to X-Men 3...I would definately want this..

For the X-Men it would be Storm and wolverine obviously and like you I do not feel that beast would be back, Kitty and Collosus, Iceman of course as for Rogue I feel she will definately be there but I dont know if she will be important. Hopefully in place of Cyclops they bring in Gambit(favorite X-Men ever)..As for the brotherhood the choices are clear Magnetto, Jugernaut, Pyro, Sabertooth, and maybe Mystique, i'd say that in the 4th they would gain some new allies..[/QUOTE]

In the 4th the mutants will find a way to reverse the cure and Magnetto and Mystique who was forcefully given the cure will get their hands on it and turn mutant again. After this occurs I to would like to see the sentinals hunt down the mutants and the mutants rise up and fight together. Also it was interesting that you mentioned apocalype's him being in this would lead to a very exciting movie..


No matter how this movie turns out I would be excited to see it and I cannot wait until it happens...And also I hope that we are finally done with the origin movies dont get me wrong Wolverine was good but I would much rather see a sequel to 1,2, and 3...

Well they aren't done with the Origin films yet. You've got Deadpool and Wolverine 2 at least, and then Magneto still in the works, not to mention the First Class movie they're planning. I hope these don't hinder the possibility of a 4th primary series film.

As for the subject matter of the 4th film, I could see them doing either Sentinals or a lead in to Apocalypse or both. I think it would definately lead in with the concept that some cured mutants have gotten their powers back. I esspecially think Rouge will "accidentally" get additional powers when she touches a strong mutant and absorbs them, not realizing the cure wasn't permanent. But I could really see a use for Mr. Sinister and the creation of the Sentinals, perhaps together, and leading to a future appearance of the big A.

Also with a Sentinal movie, we'll finally get to see the destruction of the X Mansion right? That thing hasn't be f'd up yet!!

Don't know, I would only like to see a 4th one if they made it more like the 1st or the second one.If it were the case then I just ask for a version of New X-Men: Childhood's End/Decimation/Age of Apocalypse just a way to let some of the characters from the previous movies rest and let others go into the action.Wolverine stays of course...for a while.

... I actually just wish they'd start over with the X-Men stuff. I liked X-Men 1 and 2, but 3 just blew the whole thing out of proportion(frikkin different director and all). Unlike a lot of people, I actually enjoyed Gambit in Wolverine Origins. I would like to see more of that character/actor in future films.. preferably with more dialog next time so I can form a better opinion of his acting skillz.

I'd be happy with more origin stories or an alternative movie to 3 which didn't strike me as being too faithful to the comics (though I do admit to not having read an xmen comic in several years).

I would love to see another X-men film, they ended the 3rd one with someone in hospital who sound like Xavier and the nurse called him professer, I would want to see more about that cos we all saw him get turned into dust by Jean.

I would like to see another X-Men movie just not the one who would start where the X-Men 3 ends, how bout a new X-Men 3 movie that doesn't suck?

I highly doubt that they'll make another X-Men movie anytime soon but it's all good as long as they continue with Origins, I'm really looking forward to see Deadpool.

Also I must agree with Violet and winterborn86, Gambit is one of the best characters in X-Men franchise and it would be waste not to include him.

I love the definative comments that X3 sucked. I agree that it didn't have the same power the first 2 had, but come on. It didn't "suck" It was solid, and if you watch 1&2 right before you watch 3, 3 winds up feeling like an extension of the story.

They definately shouldn't get into the habit of scrapping a film because there's a little reservation about it, and then rebooting the series. They messed up with Hulk that way. There was no reason to reboot it. The first film was just fine, pick up from there and do a better film, but don't reboot everything.

The batman series was different. That had just gotten rediculous. The X-Men series has by no stretch gotten rediculous.

Yeah that's right, not 4 but 3. Given that the third movie had no numeric part in it's title, Singer could just continue from where he left of and pretend that Brett Ratner never made that holocaust.

OMG,,,, 3 was not that bad children. You can't get into the business of ignoring movies. Just make a 4, start a new storyline that has little to do with the first 3 and move on. Dont go back and make an ass out yourself by blantly ignoring film 3. Was it Oscar worthy? No, but come on. It wasn't that bad. Geeeeeez you guys are spoiled.

No Locke, it was bad. It was very bad, it had bad pacing, bad writing, bad dialogue bad directing, it pointlessly killed characters off, gave them nothing to do. Wasted opportunities, had story threads that went no-where. The characters development was virtually non-existant, and it just felt like Michael Bay had taken over the reigns of the series.

If they can ignore Superman III, which was as bad, they can ignore X-Men: The Last Stand.

Now let's not forget that even if they tried to do an X-Men 4, who the **** is left alive to do it. There's no Cyclops, no Xavier (yes I know about the ending scene. It's a bullshit deus ex machina), no Jean. Like seriously, of the 5 heroic leads from the first movie, who is left? The once ensemble film series has become a "Wolverine kicks ass" series.

@ Rydia - By the way I loved Rydia. I'm so glad you have that name. She was my favorite character of that game. I really was upset when I thought she'd died.

Also I agree on the Apocalypse front. I've thought they could base a first film on Sinister doing some genetic experiements, perhaps cloning Cyclops or Gene and creating Cable?, a second on the coming of the four hoursemen and the consequent corruption of Angel, and then the 3rd on Apocalpyse himself. What do you think?

Or how about a 1st film based on Sentinals with a hint towards Apocalypse. Maybe Bishop shows up tracking down Cable who Sinister cloned from Cyclops, and bring in Havok to semi-replace him and follow in this search for Cable. A 2nd film revealing Sinister and his hencemen the 4 Hoursemen. Only there are 3 with plans for a fourth, they tease us with Angel but end up with Wolverine as Death. Then the Third film, they rescue Wolverine, but Angel takes his place, Apocalypse shows up as Magneto steals Wolverine's Adamantium and the group ends up defeating Apocalypse anyway. Hum?


@ Petros - I thoroughly dissagree. There are bad comic films out there. Daredevil stands out as one, but I would want a Daredevil 2, to still utilize the first film. They made a mistake rebooting the Hulk series instead of just making a sequel, and the Ed Norton version was obviously an intended sequel anyway. And X3 is NOT Superman 3. It was nowhere near that bad. It was decent, not great, but decent enough that it certainly does not deserve to be shoved to the side. Hey, make a 4, use whatever director you want, and start a new trilogy that goes in a new direction. Or reboot the whole series and just do something altogether new. That's fine. But don't make a new version of part 3. Plus Superman 3 was over 20 years ago. X3 was like 2 years ago. You want to just call a do-over? "Erasies" The next great hollywood trend. Not sequels. Not spinoffs. Not prequels. DO-OVERS!!! Good lord.

And you're wrong about not having characters. First of all there is a gigantic cast. Second of all, comics are famous for having dead people come back and I don't recall seeing a dead Cyclops body anywhere, do you? ;-) Gene is dead, but Gene is dead in the comics too. And Professor X is nowhere near dead. Other than that everybody is still left and they can easily negate the whole cure thing. In fact it would be a great Rouge story for her powers to suddenly kick back in, and use that to have her power up. Add some Gambit, increase Angel's roll, with Storm, Wolverine, Rouge, and Iceman. Wow six great characters, and I haven't broken a sweat. Havok to replace Cyclops and use a sentamental angle with him having lost his brother? Bring in Bishop? Emma Frost? Sunfire? Psylocke? Forge? Cable? There's a ton of solid characters they could still use.
