Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

I've been seeing previews on T.V. for a while now and I'm dying to see this movie. Anybody else looking forward to it? I'm not a big fan on musicals but what makes me more interested in the movie that its produced by Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, etc..) and it has a little horror thriller taste to it. This is also a remake I heard too. I've never seen the original but this movie looks so awesome, also Johnny Depp's in here too and the guy who plays Borat (Sasha Baron something ><) and the guy who plays Snape in Harry Potter is also a judge in here too.

Fishie! You showed me the trailer to this!

It does look really awesome. I must admit, more than alot of the actors in this I'm looking forward to seeing Helena Bonham Carter in it.. She's such a good actress, and a little underated, methinks.

Plus she's worked with Tim Burton before in "Corpse Bride", so she'll probably be more comfortable in the role... Yay indeed.

It certainly looks different for a musical, doesn't it? You don't often see any sort of musical with any horror in it. Musicals are more often quite feel-good.

And this's set a while back, too... I like that. They often have more texture than very modern movies.

I love Helena. She's so neat.

And I've been fond of Sweeney Todd for a while. They recently did a revival on Broadway and the actors play their own instruments now. But the movie? I assume it'll look great. And if can make people aware of the musical, I'm all for it.

And Johnny Depp looks pretty awesome as a homicidal barber. His hair! GoodNESS.
    Curious?

I remember hearing a song from this play: In the movie "Jersey Girl", the former ad man takes his little girl to it, unsuspecting... and she does a song from it with the dad and an older friend. Funny.

    Damn that's good!

    I want to see it.

    That is all.

I'm not a big fan of Burton or Depp, but something about this movie has caught my eye.

I saw the old stage act of Sweeney Todd. It was pretty good, but it made me fall asleep, sadly to admit. I did like how Angela Lansbury was in it, and no one can beat her at Ms. Lovett's role, IMO. Now, the newer version just blew me away. I loved how dark everything was, it was beautiful. All the actors did a pretty good job, imo. 10/10 from me.

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen! With the music and the killing and the wonderful acting, it was just superb! 10/10 for me as well.

P.S : Although, it does suck when you had a meat pie for breakfast and then saw the movie....><

I saw it this evening, as it was recommended to me by a friend of mine, and I thought it was wonderful; Tim Burton can do no wrong!

Sacha Baron Cohen's brief performance was hilarious, and Johnny Depp reminded me of a cross between Jack Sparrow and Den Watts from Eastenders, a British soap.

Yeah, I saw it as Ann recommended it to me. I wasn't disappointed. It was darkly themed but the smaller touches had me cracking up with laughter fairly often.
And yes, I ate three meat pies during the movie.

I'll never look at pies the same way again. Lets put it that way.

The soundtrack was really good too. I listened to it a few weeks ago and I've said this numerous times, I'm not a huge fan of musicals but this definitely is my favorite musical album I have..and my only one.

Favorite songs off the OST is "Johanna", "Epiphany", and "The Contest".

I saw it a while back and enjoyed it. Tim Burton never disappoints in the visuals department. The film is sort of formulaic, but a lot of that has to do with Burton's intention to follow the original story as much as possible. It isn't a must see, but try and view it once for the Gothic setting in all its glory.

Well accually, tim burton didnt add much to the show at all, not to say that he is a bad writer/director. Sweeny Todd is already widley known as a dark morbid and gothic feeling show. i saw it in new york when the 2005 revival cast came on and it wasnt at all that different from the movie (aside from the characters being older ex: tobey is 16, antony is 30, etc.), sweeny todd was a dream project from burton a long time and was a bassis for alot of work. that was one thing i wasnt to impressed though. i love johnny depp, but he was deffinatly not the person to play benjamin barker. that character is more or less well into his late 50s, early 60s. but it was a great show, i was dissapointed to see that it got no oscars.

By the way i will be adutioning for a local production of sweeny todd, i hope to get the part of tobey seeing that im too young to play any other role.

I was mildly aware of the play before I saw the movie. It was pretty alright, I thought. Not bad at all...though for someone who seemed to have shunned & mistrusted humanity, Sweeney seemed to immediately go with whatever she (uh...I'm terrible with names...I'll call her Pie Lady) said had happened to his family (though perhaps he was surprised that anyone knew anything)...It was also fairly obvious who the woman was from the start, but maybe I'm just jaded to red herrings now...*shrugs*

I saw some previews of it, and it looked awesome. Then I was told by one of my friends that it was a musical, and I just had to see it (my friend thought I was wierd, considering he hated it when he told me )! I love the film. The acting was great (Johnny Depp never disappoints me) and the added musical element made this film just a little bit special.

Girl: Do i ever cross ur mind
    Boy: No

    Boy: Not really
    Girl: Do you want me?
    Boy: No
Girl: Would you cry if I left?
    Boy: No
Girl: Would you live for me?
    Boy: No
Girl: Would you do anything for me?
    Boy: No
    Girl: Choose--me or ur life
    Boy: my life

I really liked the move and It was one of the first musicals I was interested in. I was also surprised to see that Johnny Depp could sing. I have liked all of his movies and this one was no different. Just like Jet Li, never fails.
