Right off the bat, I'd say he's too old.
Not that that matters, but if we're talking about fat or old, I'd say the oldness would be worse. Well, maybe. He's not exactly a heifer, is he?
Actually, I feel sick talking about this now. >=[
So I opened my browser and saw this as one of the links on comcast.net, and was like, "...what?" Apparently, Russell Crowe is too fat for sex scenes with the lady who was going to play Maid Marian in the upcoming movie "Knottingham" (that lady has since been removed from the cast.) This is humorous news to me, because just last year-after I saw him in "3:10 to Yuma" and "American Gangster"-I mused to my brother, "Does Russell Crowe have sex in every movie he's in?" (He didn't get in any in "Gladiator" or Sam Raimi's "The Quick and the Dead" that I can recall.) It reminds me of that "Fat Panda Can't Have Sex" story I saw a couple years ago, kinda (except that Russell Crowe is not a panda, I'm pretty sure...)
Apparently though, upon further inspection, Ridley Scott also told Crowe to lose some weight before he could play the role of the Sheriff of Knottingham in the movie. Before this gets to be too much like a tabloid issue... what is up with this story? Why does the sheriff need to have sex with Maid Marian? If he's "too fat and old," why don't they just cut that out of the movie by simply infering that it happened? Why does it need to happen at all, in a movie about Robin Hood, in fact? I wonder what the circumstances of the scene are. The Sheriff of Knottingham apparently is a "basically good man." Sounds like an interesting retelling. I wonder if they're going to give Robin Hood an equal amount of faults to the Sheriff, and if the love triangle is going to be a major plot point in the movie (probably.)
I won't know how I feel about this until I see it. Maybe I should read the old story first. I wonder if there is a novelization somewhere. Anyhoo...

EDIT: According to imdb.com, Crowe will play both the Sheriff and Robin Hood.

He doesn't look all that fat to me in recent pictures. Not huge, anyway. Not any bigger than Seth Rogan, who also got sex scenes in two movies I've seen him in ("Knocked Up" and "Zack and Miri Make a Porno.") Then again, Seth Rogen isn't as old, either (I think he's only like two years older than I am-don't tell me I'm old! He looks older, though...) Then again, I never saw the movie Crowe was in that he got fat for, either. But he is getting older, eh?
...this is a weird subject to talk about. Anyhoo...
