    I am Legend

Well, for me at least, this movie was a complete let down compared to the book.

Its storyline wasn't as great. The ending was bad. The movie as a whole sucked.

Seeing Will Smith as the main character made me go see it, thinking that it was going to be a great movie like I-Robot, but unfortunatlly, it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

    Your thoughts on this movie?

Mine is complete opposite of your opinion. I loved this movie. The story was really good, and one of the later scenes was really depressing even though I saw it coming. It was like Old Yeller. *cough*

And the end was kind of to be expected as well, but the way Will did it was noble and moving. I really liked it in the end. I wasn't disappointed or let down at all.

and with a very poor doggy!!! sniff..
I like the story, altho it's quite different from the book.
And Will Smiths acting was great!

But I didn't like the end at all..

    Craven! How could you!? ><

I thought it was great, really.

I can't spoiler, so I won't. But it was a good movie. It made me laugh and cry and think a bit. Good storyline, good characterisation for the few that were in it, good acting.

I like the Movie, although I was some what disappointed with the ended. If you seen I guess you can see where I coming from, if you haven't seen then well go see it. And
Crav3n I do agree with one thing you said. I too went to see because Will Smith was the main character.

I can't compare it to the Book cause I didn't know there was one until now. I guess ya'll added a book to my want to read list.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. I haven't read the book, but I might one day. I was satisfied with the ending.. not the happiest of endings, but it made good enough sense. The feel of how alone he was was done pretty well, the only thing I found kind of lame was how he sped around in that sports car of his. I loved his doggy, it was so cute ^_^.

It wasn't as good as it looked, but I did enjoy it. It was funny in some parts, scarey, and sad at the time. I like Will Smith, so I thought it would be a really, really good film, but it wasn't what I expected. Though his acting was great ^^

I found it really funny when he was shouting at that manikin he named Fred xD That was classic xD Quite sad too, seeing as how he was so alone and all...

It also got me quite scared...what if someone actually finds a cure for cancer and this actually happens? Haha.

Anyway...overall, I thought it was a great movie, just not as great a movie that everyone made it out to be.

ide deffinantly have to agree i watched this one saturday and was realy quite pleased with it, i found it to be very sad but kind of predictable. plus the infected (dont know what else to call them) looked really kind of hoaky.

i thought the golfing part was really kind of funny along with other non plot related scenes, the first time hes in the dark kind of gave me the shivers too.

Am I the only one who didn't see it because of Will Smith?

I thought it was a good movie, not too outgoing and not too tame. What you'd expect to see when you buy the ticket, really. I honestly don't see what's wrong with it - I know it's not a world-breaking development in anything in particular, but it's perfectly watchable.
Plot's reasonably developed, ending makes sense. Dog's absolutely adorable. I wanned to take her home. ^^

Overall, I thought it was quite well done, graphics were good. Definitely not a bad movie.

That isn't to say it wasn't watchable. Far from it. I rather enjoyed the movie, but it was no where near the "masterpiece" that the advertisements claimed. "Oscar worthy"? (as one commercial claimed) It'll be a dark day for the Oscars if this movie is even nominated.

    Until now!

    I liked it a lot.

I went and saw this with Andrew the other day. I liked it, although I expected it to be... I don't know, different. I saw extracts and it gave me a different idea about the mutated creatures and when I saw the movie, I saw nothing similar to what the advert had displayed. I really liked it, though.

I even shed a tear when...

    Spoiler:
    The dog died.

And no, I didn't see this because of Will Smith.

I thought this movie was awesome. Granted there's a book and 2 other movies about it before this. But this is still the best version. Omega Man's a really bad movie even though I like Charlton Heston. I thought this is the movie this proved Will Smiths legitimacy. He showed he can act and can not always be the smartass jokester. It's defenitely one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

I think this movie was advertised wrong. A lot of people thought that this fil was about monsters and whatnot, and that it was meant to be scary. Also, I think most folks had too closed of a mind to really appreciate what this film was about...

I think it was perfect. For one reason only...

When was the last time you left a film and felt horrible afterwards? Never. There was no happy ending, no (intentional) comic relief, just sad, insane, psychotic behavior and a man's struggle with keeping it all together...

It was a film about insanity. Imagine yourself in that same situation and what your mind does to you being alone like that. When I was in that theater and the scene came up when Will was trapped by the Darkseekers, everyone was laughing at the thing with Fred. How is that funny? He is losing his mind....

I dont really know the best way to explain this all, clearly, but if you see the film and go into it with your focus on emotion, opposed to shiny, flashy movie BS, you will appreciate it more.

My girlfriend said it best after the film by saying " I liked it a lot, but I will never see it again. I don't ever wanna feel that way again." That was the point right there. Expose the dark, painful side of life and the fragility of the human psychee.

    My 2 cents is all.

I liked it for what it was. I've read the original novella and though the story and the movie share some major points, the two are very little alike. I was excited, but I was confused when I walked in at one of the final scenes and saw a woman and a little boy and came out and told my husband it couldn't be I am Legend.

...but the ending is nice, if cliched. It wasn't what I expected when I walked into the theater, but I still liked it. Was it a great movie? No. Was it still a good movie? Certainly. The acting can't improve a bad script. They should have kept it closer to the story at the end, as that's where it fell apart.

What an excellent post. And very true. I agree with just about everything you said. It was an excellent, psychological film... Not a morbid horror film. I would definately see it again. It never made me feel as bad as I do when I see Children of Men, which is probably one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen.

Thankfully, the theater was quiet when Andrew and I went, so there was no laughing at sad moments. I shed a few tears.

of course its going to resemble omega man - its a remake! so its going to, which like any remake they are going to add their own lil amount of spice and alter the story a lil so that its not the exact same, just look at aminiville horror and dawn of the dead....

not that it really matters, not tryin to start a fight, just some FYI......

This movie is for dog lovers. Since I have cats, I did not get the emotional connection between the dog and him.

I didn't like any of the dialog, the suspense was meh, the ending sucked. Even the animation of the zombies and wildlife in the city were a little...bland.

Something I'll probably forget ever existed and never consider a classic.

I gotta agree with Chez, that post was written quite well, although it was kinda what I was going to say, lol.

It's not something that the normal person would go to see. like you said PA it's not really for those looking for some big, high production, and flashy film. More for the adults then young kids (it's rated R, but there were 11 and 12 year olds there when I went).

You need to think a lot when you see it. Every human mind can go into the same state of slight insanity when you're left without something that you are always with. In this case others to talk to. Cast Away was similar in this sense.

My mind moves rather quickly, so that part about Fred didn't leave me questioning when I watched it, but my friend keep tapping me on the shoulder asking, "what the hell?!?!"

    Spoiler:
He gave up everything in the end, including his life.

I can tell everyone who went to see it for Will Smith, cuz they were complaining that the movie sucked because
    Spoiler:
he died in the end. Just because of that.

I agree that the advertisement wasn't really correct with what the film really was, but I liked it none the less.

That's pretty much what I thought about seeing this movie. My mom dragged me to watch this movie as I honestly wasn't all to impressed with the trailers. It felt like something I'd rather watch on DVD.

But anyway, overall I think this movie just didn't have the power to carry itself. The ending was interesting, yet predictable. The "scary" scenes were way overused with "jumpy" movement, which in my opinion does not entirely classify something as "scary" because any idiot can record something on camera and then have something jump out of nowhere, like that prank where you go through the maze and at the end the face of Linda Blair from The Exorcist. Though it was satisfying to see both my mom and her friend piss themselves over it, lol.

Now, the acting was, of course, good, but definitely not oscar worthy as Jin said. There just wasn't enough power like I mentioned in everything they had. I just found it dull and way too "realistic" rather than "entertaining".

I guess I should mention this as well:

    Spoiler:
Even though he had everything torn away from him before his very eyes, he bared no long lasting grudge against any of them. He strive as hard as he could to find the cure for those who destroyed his life in every way possible. When the last thing he cared for died, he gave up because he thought there was no one left to save. When that was shown false to him, he began researching again. The last thing he did was protect those who carried his hope to a new tomorrow as the cure. He destroyed the darkseekers only as a defender. He held neither pride nor hate till the end of his life.

i dunno maybe im just super weird but i really wasnt impressed with the movie at all. i liked how they really got behind the main character and u felt like u knew him but it didnt have enough action for me. i got bored real fast.

  23. #23
This movie sucked so bad. it kept going back, where he was having flashbacks - it got annoying. i found there was not enough action and it wasn't scary.

I like Will Smith so watched it. guess what..? I hated it.

    the ending was horrible

I felt sorry for the dog i wanted to cry

I was dragged to cinema to see this film, and I really didn't want to see it. The whole idea of being in a City on their own seemed... Boring.

BUT, I enjoyed it. I was glad I saw it in the end. I was, like many, a little disappointed with the endding, but the film made me think too much to worry about that. The movie at points made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me jump out of my skin... everything a good movie should do.

    Spoiler:
I especially liked the idea about the cancer drug being a total let down, and making all the Dark-Seekers. It made me wonder what I would give to be cured for something. Not that these people new what the side effect were, but I guess they would have known how long this particular drug was in development for, and whether they should chance it or not. I'm saying if I knew what the side effects were, would I want to go down that road, if I knew I'd still be cured.

    Spoiler:
I also liked the way the City had been changed because Humans weren't around anymore. The way shrubs, and weeds were everywhere on the street, overgrown parks, wildlife making its home in places it would have if people still lived there. It made me wonder what my street would look like if people didn't use it for a few years. How fast would the plant change, heal, and return to nature if humans just ceased to exist?

    Spoiler:
The fact that Will's charcter had lost everything - His wife, his child, his friends, family, even his life - yet still worked on to find the cure for Dark-Seeking, pushed me to think of how strong he must be. I would have given up on a cure after a few months and/or possibly endded killed by the Dark-Seekers.

Secondly, I thought his dog was one of these things that kept him going. His child passed him the dog seconds before they were killed, and I saw the dog as maybe his second child. He treated the dog like a child - talking to him about playing with veggies, scolding him about not doing as he says... There was something else, but I can't think of it now. It was because of this which I think allowed Will to keep some of his sanity - not in the child/dog thing, but in a way the dog was there for him, just like a best friend.

Yeah, I thought it was interesting how the drug that caused the terror had been a cure for cancer, and how the creatures even had a slight psycological resembelence to to somebody that might've had cancer for an extensive amount of time. Note lack of all bodily hair. A common side effect of somebody who has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Also the hostile behavior of somebody with an embedded brain tumour.

Then there are some polar opposites, like for example, the super strength. Maybe from a drug included into the medicine to make cancer patients stronger rather than the regularity of weakness patients suffer.

    Hmm, just a thought.

With me I watched a bit of it then went to sleep, only because I was on a bus to Dayton, Ohio, and it was very early in the morning. The when I came around, and I got to see the ending and it was not good. And I've seen it a few more times.

I for one enjoyed this movie it was great i loved how it all paned out and when it came to the dog scene everyone in the cinema had seen enough of it to be a good film but still wanted more! i thought the ending was good to cause after all that time away from human beings he just couldn't go back but the least he could do was save there lives ^^ truely awsome even if the story is different to the book.

I enjoyed the movie. But the movie could have been a lot better if they would have added more stuff from the book.
Life or death. Nethire are consider to someone like me. For I am both. Nor death can happen to me, or can life. There is no other like me. For I am one with myself. Nobody else is. That is the way of the immortal. That is the way of Ulteka Mako.

Hmm odd i thought I repled to this thread but I guess I didnt. Anyway,I thought the movie was pretty good but it could have been alot better. It was completely different fromw hat I thought it would be. I also didnt realize it was from a book. Will Smith is a great actor which did make this movie good,if it had been anyone else acting I dont think the movie would have been as good.I also heard they were making a sequel to this, all I can ask is why and how? It seemed like the end pretty much showed you how it ended. oh well.
