This thread is about a very unusual show that first aired in 2002. Created by Joss Whedon, Firefly is a science fiction western. Or, was. Sadly the idiots at FOX canceled it after only one season and never even bothered airing 3 of the episodes.

These days it has a cult following and yes, I am a browncoat. I bring this thread up now because I bought the series on Blu-ray as a present to myself and I just watched the pilot episode. Twice. Those of you who have never heard of it, do yourself a favor and Youtube or Hulu it, try to get the pilot episode(s) (it's a two-parter) first if you can. Then you can come back and thank me. Hah I kid, I know there's no show that will appeal to everyone. This one just happens to resonate very strongly with me.

So fellow browncoats, how did you first come across Firefly?

I heard about it on the writing forum I frequent, it's almost universally praised over there. Then I started using Hulu and noticed they had the entire series up for awhile. Clicked on it, saw the pilot and completely fell in love with the world, the characters, and of course, Serenity herself.

I haven't watched Firefly, but I watched the movie Serenity. A co-worker of mine let me borrow the movie. He was a big Firefly fan (or a browncoat, I guess you would call him that). This was a couple of years ago, so some of the exact details of the movie are a bit fuzzy to me. It was really good, from what I remember of it. My favorite character was the pilot guy (sorry, I can't remember his name...)

SPOILER!!:

He died near the end of the movie though, when a big metal something busted through the ship and impaled him on it... Ouch...

Funny thing: I remember the blonde girl that had the hots for the doctor character in the movie from another show I watched that didn't last long either. It was called "Flash Forward" and it aired on Disney for a while when I was younger. I loved that show, but it was cancelled after only a handful of episodes. Coincidence? Makes you think, doesn't it?
