I got my friend playing. We were sitting in my apartment last night, bored, and I was like, "You could always play Silent Hill." And ever since then, he's been bugging out, trying to figure out why the game is so creepy.

Hahaha, I personally think it's the music.

Fantastically creepy. On the other hand, I guess it's also the enviroment. Dark, heavy, driving places, massively down and sparsely decorated.

It's not really the monsters... and although they are really creepy, especially the SH1 and 4 ones, but I think it's more the atmosphere, the radio, the fear of not knowing what's around the corner.

For me the sounds do it, I mean when your walking down a hallway and you hear hideous moans and screams... It's scary. Also how the music is all fuzzy and the clinging sounds repeat, the nurses also contribute, cause come on, nurses are already scary.

My Friend Rachel got me into Silent Hill, way back when the first one for the PS1 came out... *sigh* Such memories of staying up till 2 a.m. playing Silent Hill, but then not being able to go to sleep for hours because we were about to piss ourselves... *smiles*

Awesome pics, however the first one didn't work

I never really found the games to be that creepy however their is an eerie feel to them, I think is often the music whether its very quite our pounding away as you struggle to shot something. The graphics look too video gamish to be scary however the visuals are quite "scary" looking.

Excuse my lack of posting but I have been pre-occupied with FFXII, I might have to bust out some Silent Hill 3 tonight.

After having grown increasingly frustrated with Silent Hill 3's hospital moment, in which the passcoded door on the third floor refused to open, I have since quit and restarted Silent Hill 2.

Although I have completed Silent Hill 3 twice, and the same for Silent Hill 2, I felt Silent Hill 2 was an easier choice in terms of passcodes and puzzles.

Earlier on, I was webcamming for my new love-interest, Andrew, and he was watching me in the Silent Hill 2 apartments. Soon after I'd turned off the webcam, I got stuck and was forced to consult GAMESFAQ about the trouble I had finding the Lady coin for the buearo (and soon realising it was in the room in which Sunderland is convincing Angela not to commit suicide).

It was a lot of fun; but I can't choice whether I like Silent Hill 2 or 3 better.

For example, 2 has many pro's, such as...

Better access to places within Silent Hill.
Easily accessible health drinks and kits.
Better story and atmosphere.
Frightening sudden beat changes.
Pyramid Head.

But it also has one major con, in my opinion... The fact that it seems to grate on much further than any other Silent Hill (apart from Silent Hill 1). Although I'm always up for some Silent Hill 2, and love the game, I think the Prison enviroment could've been shortened greatly.

I don't even have a problem with the repetitive scenery at the beginning of the game, which was created solely to make the player not want to go back; but the Prison and the overly long stay in Brookhanven hospital makes me feel vastly put off at times.

In Silent Hill 3, we have many pro's.

A main young, female character, who isn't ditzy, but down to Earth.
Monsters that look different.
A different approach to the "scare factor".
A linked story.
Scenes from outside of Silent Hill AND inside.
No outside Silent Hill Otherworld scenes.

And then we have our cons.

First of all, we don't spend enough time exploring Silent Hill streets. This in itself, was a vast disappointment for me, considering the wandering of the streets is one of my favourite things to do.

Second, time spent outside of Silent Hill consumed about half of the game itself, and whilst it was nice to start outside of Silent Hill and work our way up to the town, the Subway was far too exaggerated in aspects of time, and ate up a lot of the game.

Whilst they had the stay in most places, such as the Hilltop Center and Brookhaven Hospital spot on in concerns of time, the subway and underpass get majorly boring and in fast time as well.


I guess Silent Hill 2 is preferred momentarily for time spent on the streets... I dunno, at least in Silent Hill 3, you don't have an annoying figmented bimbo hanging around you.

Eileen from Silent Hill 4: The Room was also fairly annoying like that, too... I did like her character, though, and she does have pretty hair.

I'll be sure to post up my finishing stats for Silent Hill 2 once I finish it again.

Funny you should mention that. I just downloaded the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack again the night before last. I've started to fall back into Silent Hill. I knew it wouldn't be long until I did.

Also, I changed my cell phone to an all Silent Hill theme. My wallpaper is the picture of Heather with the flashlight. My ringer is the siren from the movie. The notifications are "Even when I change the bandages, the blood and puss just start oozing through!"

Can anyone guess where that line is from?

Okay, I know I'm not a member or anything, but I do want to spark a quick conversation if none of you mind too terribly. I just bought a PSP yesterday and reserved some of the upcoming titles, including Silent Hill: Origins.

For those of you who know anything of the title, what are your thoughts? From what I understand, it's supposed to tie up a lot of the loose ends and really explain some of the things that are left to your imagination in the previous games.

Do you think this is good or bad? Speculation is fun... but what if everything you ever thought to be true were to suddenly become unraveled and replaced with another "truth" altogether?

Not to mention the fact that the main character in Origins is supposed to be mentally unstable BEFORE his encounter with Silent Hill... it's going to be a very deep and disturbing game, and I just want to see what you lot think of it.

I'm interested in playing it as well. I sold my PSP to a close friend of mine, so I'm sure he'd let me use it if I asked him.

Also, the crazy truck driver could do well! I saw some in game demos online somewhere awhile back and the setup is alot like RE4, which isn't a bad thing by any means.

Onto tying up loose ends. That's a tricky one. The Silent Hill series is actually supposed to leave things open for your imagination (which is what they claim to be true. This could just be a way of covering things up). A big part of me hopes that they don't tie up any loose ends simply because I really enjoy seeing what other people believe to be true with the story of Silent Hill and the people connected to the town.

As far as what I think they will reveal in the game...I don't think they'll tie up anything, to be honest. If they do, it will just be to lead you on to another set of wonders. For example, all of the things explained in the game could just be pieced together in the mind of the main character, who as we all know, is insane. They could just wind up dragging you down into the dark depths of our crazy truck driver friend's mind. I think that's what they will wind up doing.

I'm still looking forward to that one little title, Silent Hill 5. They're keeping it so under wraps it's not even funny. Who knows if they're working on it right now or not? I think they are. It would just make sense...but this is about SH...

From what I read, Cesar, expect this game to be a heavy hitter. They've attempted to fine tune the game so well that it still spooks you out when playing it in public in broad daylight. Who knows if that will actually work? Silent Hill isn't for everybody. At first glance, it's not too disturbing of a series. It's only when you dig deeper into the story that you find all of the disturbing material that really sets it apart from the rest.

Wow i missed a lot and sorry for not posting, I was waiting for some people to, and then when I came back there was a million. So on the top of origins I think it will be a disappointment, I would like to own it, but it seems so, un-silent hill like. I'm afraid if i play it, it will be horrible, but I just might buy it.

The thing about 0rigins, (spelt with a zero, not an O), is that it isn't being made by Team Silent, but another team, although it's believed that Akira Yamaoka may be helping out with the sounds and music.

I personally don't really like much of what I see from this release, however I will buy it. I don't even have a PSP, but I have the other PSP Silent Hill title; Experience. So yeah.

I've got to own everything with Silent Hill on it at some point or another, even if I can't use it.

Hardcore fan? Perhaps.

Well, I personally love Akira Yamaoka... she makes the most amazing soundtracks that man has ever experienced. And, although I'm poor at the moment, I'll probably end up buying it anyways... but I've not bought any of the PSP titles... (it probably doesn't help that I've not a PSP... )

But, yeah... any game where Akira Yamaoka does the music's gotta be amazing... n_n

I'm just really nervous about the whole lack of Team Silent... How could they just abandon such an important title? To simply give it to others? Sure, they're probably trusted with it, but I've got a bad feeling...

They may be old, but in case some of you haven't seen them yet, here are some screenshots.

I'm not exactly sure why Team Silent isn't doing Origins. I read this awhile back, but I never found out why exactly. The game was originally being worked on here in the US, but due to "unrealistic deadlines" and "various set backs", production has been moved from the US to the UK. So there you go, Chez. Silent Hill is in your neck of the woods.

Also, to clear anything up, Yamaoka has written fifteen new tracks for Origins, or so I've read.

I also read that the game is supposed to explain more about the "bigger picture" of Silent Hill and explain the transformations a bit, but "in no way will it explain every mystery or answer every question".

I'm looking foward to Origins, though like I said before...I'm REALLY looking foward to Silent Hill 5. Hopefully by some freak chance we'll see Heather Morris again?
