Well, here we go again.

So ... Some of you may or may not have noticed that I have been all but gone for the last month or so. This will be the case for the next year, give or take. For those of you who know who I am and what I do, this may not come as a surprise. For those of you who don't, I will be in a different country for an undisclosed period of time, doing different things than y'all will be. This is number three for me, and to a different country than the previous two.

After I get home for good, I'm giving a lot of thought to transferring from an enlisted soldier to a Warrant Officer and going into Rotary Wing -- in other words, I'll be a helicopter pilot. I love what I do, but there are no civilian jobs that my military job gives me qualifications for. Which is a good thing, I suppose. But I figure hell, if I can make it though the selection process (they take VERY few, as they're already overloaded), I can stay Reserve and make $100-$150k as a civilian, flying for hospitals, rescue services, law enforcement, news stations, tours, even training other military pilots. It'll be pretty nice.

But anyway ... that's what I'm up to. I won't have much to say around here for a while, but I'll try to pop in when I can. For now, the only FF's I'll be playing are IV, V, and VI, because I have those on GBA -- and, of course, the SNES emulator. Oh yeah, I also have a NES emulator with FFI on it, so I might be using that. I'm trying to find a PSX emulator as well, but haven't gotten the chance to look around for it much (translation: I haven't had internet access much).

I'd say "good luck, have fun," but I know there's minimal fun involved. Well, at least the GBA will keep you warm at night. Try not to cause an international incident while you're out, okay?

Well, I'm still around. I'm at a different base right now, but by the time I get back in a week or so, there should be internet in our tents. That's a hell of a lot more than I had last time and the time before, so communications won't be too bad I guess. Right now, I'm doing a class that will authorize me to BIP (Blow In Place), which means that when we find IEDs, I'll be able to blow them up without having to call out EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal, prettymuch the military term for bomb squad). So that'll be fun. And it'll save time on scene, which is important. And it'll get me another hundred and fifty bucks a month for demo pay, since I'll be handling more explosives. Nice.

Anyway, just checking in. I'm sure I'll be able to get back into ID someday and piss people off again ... that is, of course, one of the things I'm good at. Hope everything is well with y'all.

Nice little pay bump, though. It's a shame the pay you'll make back here in a civilian job usually won't compare.
