Thread: The Old Skool Cult of Kefka, bitches!

  1. #391
Hmm... havn't gotten round to posting in here in a while. I need to keep up.

Got going on FFT again, think I'm nearing end of 3rd chapter/part/whatever, and completed a 5th run through of FFVIII recently. Need to get my hands on Kingdom Hearts CoM... but maybe when it's cheaper. Just seems like a bunch of re-visits to old locations to me, but I'm sure there's some storyline in it too ^_^.

Sorry to hear 'bout the kidney, Cesar, but like you say, you've still got one good one, that'll keep you going. I've been my entire life with just the one, you'll be fine.

I played fft last night, been going through the BOF's 3 and 4
even Mega Man 8 all of my ps games are like 6 years old.
I played the crap out of FFX so I'm back on 7 and it keeps
freezing while aris's hairband is falling off. The most important
scene in FF history freezes up on my copy.
This is my band, listen or Odin shal be displeased.

    ^ and you are....?

things are not so pleasant in the land of Scorpo...but *knocks on wood* maybe things will get better?....not playing anything at the moment..trying to keep it all together is taking up 150% of my attention....

oh..some FFL when i get to a comp..

Yeah, I already added him to the member list on the front page and everything. Gosh, Scorp, you should pay attention. I even quoted his PM!

Okay, for any of you wanting an update on the kidney, here's the deal. Surgeon's booked through mid-June, so I said **** it. I'm going to California, and I'll just get the first date available in July. Or August. Or whenever there's an opening. You know how hard it is to reserve time for a three hour surgery on a machine that a bunch of different surgeons use? Especially when there's only one such machine within fifty miles?

    So yeah.

I'm thinking we need a new topic. Captain Destructo, why don't you join in on our current activity? Pick up an old 8-bit RPG that you haven't played in ages, start a new file, and knock yourself out. While you're doing that, I'm putting you in charge of coming up with a new topic for conversation as well.

And speaking of new members... well, i'd like to join up. Why? Because I enjoy old-school games, and what the heck, this is the "old-skool" club. Besides, Kefka's the most badass villain ever (barely beating out Jon Irenicus), and since this is "his" cult, I want in.

Oh, and I would normally be playing an 8-bit game already, but i'm currently borrowing my friend's GameCube, and i'm going to play the hell out of that thing until he takes it back from my cold, dead fingers. Still, my old Dr. Mario game is lying somewhere around here, so I probably dig that up and see how far I can go. Wait, I have a better idea: i'm borrowing the GameCube version of the original Zelda, so i'll start that up. Hell yeah.

CSX, honestly, I thought you were already here. I had to check the member list twice to be sure. I mean... most of that list doesn't bother posting, so I thought you may have been one of the people who forgot you were here or something.

Anyway, sure. I'd like you to post in the HALF thread as well, just because I'm curious to see what you've got to say about it.

    ...YOU'RE ALIVE!!!

Whoa. Strange. And you said I was sexy.

Hey Dawezy, I've got some screens to show you when you get online.

As for me, I think I'm going to dive into FFXI for three hours or so. I've gotta come back at four to talk to Danica, but it's only one right now, so... yeah. Early morning play with the Japs. That's always interesting.

I really wanna get into FFXI.... but it doesn't accept my debit card as payment... and my parents probably won't let me borrow theirs as they want me to save more money aside for university. I could always try, but I know so much that they won't let me do it... and I fear their reaction to me even asking. There is a method of paying without, involving some random online credit card thingy... but I never find a free moment to look into it. When I do have the free time to look into it, I forget to. So life goes.

Back into FFT once more. Training up before I reach the end of the chapter. What's a good level to end chapter 3 on? Ramza's at level 30ish right now, with other units averaging to about level 20.

    Back. For a while. Maybe.

...really? It accepted my debit card just fine. Then again, it's a Visa debit, so it's compatible. I guess if your card doesn't double with one of the four major credit card companies (I don't know how many FFXI takes), then I suppose that could be the issue.

After a little FFXI time today, it's right back to FFIIIj for me. ^_^

I would get FFXI, but quite frankly, I don't feel like spending $14 (or whatever the subscription cost is) every month to play a game online, even if it sounds cool. Just thought i'd interject with that.

Reading through that HALF thread and replying inspired me to pick up FF6 and play that again for the 30th time (or something like that). It gives me an excuse to hook up my SNES again, which rarely happens because all that most of my friends care about are newfangled games like Halo 2 that i'm sick and tired of playing. Nobody ever comes to my house to play games anymore because they're not "cool-looking" enough. *kicks friends' XBoxes*

    Currently Playing:
    FF6
    Rome: Total War
Legend Of Zelda (the GameCube version of the original)

Haha, I completely forgot the second half of your post. Yeah, 30 seems good. I'd try to work the other characters up some, so they can catch up to Ramza. Send some of the lowers off on expensive missions, and then take the rest into some random battles. Shove Ramza off into a corner somewhere, and let everyone else do the work.

CSX, you should come hang with me and my friends then. Lots of time is passed on the SNES.

Meh...I said I'd never play it either...but I came to a realization the other day, so I'm gonna give it a try, and I figure if I don't like it within that first month, then I can drop the charge, but if it's actually good enough to keep my attention, then yay, I'll keep playin, ya know? For some reason right now, I just can't bring myself to have enough patience to deal with the old schools for some reason. Not sure exactly, I guess probably cuz I keep having to redo pieces of them that I've been through before. >.<

    woo boy, been a while since I've posted...well a day or 2...for me that's a bit...>.>

First off, good luck and all that to you Loco with all your surgery concerns and such. With all the toxins I intake, I probably need 3 kidneys...lol.

    Second, Welcome CSX. \m/

And for gaming: I have beaten the first KotOR and am moving on to the second one. I am just in a star wars mood at the moment. I just re-watched episodes 1 and 2 and will see the 3rd one...eventually >.> I haven't been playing as much 8 bit as I would have liked, but...er...yeah, heh. As for the Tactics discusion, I have never focused on levels in that game. Seeing as how equipment gives you most of your statistics, I usually just go for JP and end up getting levels along the way.

edit: That shit sucks scorp...hope you get everything all in order mate.

    CP:
    KotOR 2
    ...that's it...o.O

    Until now!

Ouch. Tell your mother to go **** herself, because you're more responsible than she gives you credit for. And then get on FFXI.

Also, that's a hell of a CP list you've got there. Mine's the same three games it's been for the past couple days... NFSU2, FFXI, and FFIIIj.

ROAD TRIP TO TEXAS! I never thought i'd be saying that... but in all seriousness, I think it's time for me to go kidnap random people off the street to be my new victims on Street Fighter 2. I'm desperate here for some multiplayer action on that game; the last person who played with me quit doing so back when the school year started.

Concerning FFXI, i've come to a conclusion: since school is ending, and I don't need any more gas money to get me back and forth to school, I can divert some of that money to either FFXI or World of Warcraft, whichever one I feel like buying. So which one's better?

Let me put it this way: almost all of the people who left FFXI for WoW all got tired of it within 3 months, and ended up quitting that as well. At least they stayed with FFXI for 6+.

With FFXI, you'll get the first month "free" so you really can't go wrong. "Free" means that, should you decide to keep it active after the trial period, you actually will get billed for it. My first bill was $27, the first month and second month's payments (and an extra four days somewhere in there) put together.

Try it out. If you decide you're not interested, just cancel prior to 30 days after activation, and you won't be charged. So, first ZRO, and now you. Nice.

It's probably because I'm British. *cries*

Just wondering, are any of you old-schoolers into the point and click adventure genre of games, such as the Monkey Island series, Space Quest, Day of the Tentacle etc? It was a really popular genre at one point, and thanks to my brother, I pretty much grew up playing them. I don't play them as much as I used to, but I've decided to run through a favourite one of mine: Beneath a Steel Sky, a futuristic triller story.
Adventure games I probably would say I favour even more than RPG. Like I say, I grew up with them ^_^. They're not so popular now, which is a shame.

    Beneath a Steel Sky

    NOOOO!!!

Work somewhere else. By all means, PLEASE find somewhere else to work. Trust me, the inner workings of Target aren't pretty. I've got quite a few friends who are former employees, and for good reason. It doesn't even seem to matter what state you're living in, because they're all the same. Those higher on the ladder could give a shit less about you and any of your personal issues, and everyone's bitchy. Very bitchy. Just... yeah. Apply at some game shops instead, if you really want a discount. Spare yourself.

yes! Monkey Island and Day of the Tenticle have to be some of the best games that I have ever played. They were just plain halarious. They used to be called adventure games until that word took on a different meaning like Zelda and such. My friend calls them Canadian Adventure games because there's no battling involved XD. But yeah, superb game and an unfortunately dying genre.

    Until now!

Damn I didn't think it would be that bad.
Thanks for the tip, I guess I should have figured
it out when this female "friend" of mine got a job
there and loved it. She's a fu*kin' mega bitch.
Fortunately I live in an entirely ghetto mexican
neighborhood so there isn't exactly a rush of
game shop job coveting going on around here.
This is my band, listen or Odin shal be displeased.

Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, Full Throttle (sp?)..

    All fucking gold games, LucasArts know how to make some good shit.. how funny were some of the things they say in those titles? damn. Its been years and years since I've played Full Throttle but I can remember this one scene where you had to get some gasoline, but you have to suck it through a hose into a canteen.. you got spotted after doing this and he runs like absolute hell XD. I still have 2 of those games though, being;

    Day of the Tenacle

    and

Monkey Island (4th installment, Return to Monkey Island, voices and all)

Fuckin crackups, love it.. but I could *never* get the hang of Monkey Kombat to get past the Prince of Monkeys. lol
    SPOILER!!:

    ^_^

4th installment is called Escape from Monkey Island... unless they changed the title for the Australian release.

Yeah, I've got all the Lucasarts adventure games, aside from Zak McCracken (which I've played anyway) and Maniac Mansion, though the latter sort of comes as part of Day of the Tentacle, just not with the same graphical detail as the origional.

But yeah, Full Throttle was my favourite one for a long time. It was the first I bought myself too (my bro bought most of the others).

    Back. For a while. Maybe.

Curious if anyone remembers this game in the 'point and click' genre as we have titled it. Sam and Max hit the road! Now that was a freaking halarious game!. That dog was so incredibly sarcastic and that rabbit....he was just a sociopath lmao. Damn, now I have a craving to play it again.

    Until now!

"Point and click", huh? Never played any. I've heard of them, but I was too obsessed with platformers back when I was a kid to play anything else. I have a lot more time on my hands nowadays (due to school recently getting out), so I can probably download a few from somewhere and try 'em out.

As for FFXI, I talked to a few more people who own it, and they recommended that I go ahead and buy it. So i'll grab it the next time i'm at Wal-Mart. I've been thinking about starting as a Hume Red Mage. Is that a good pick, or should I go with something different?

    FF6
    Rome: Total War
    Baten Kaitos
    Street Fighter 2: Turbo

    Adventure/Point and Click game links:

    http://www.adventuregamers.com

http://www.adventuredevelopers.com - find some amateur/freeware ones here, though they aren't always that good.

http://www.scummvm.com - emulator for adventure games, with links to some of the ones which are now released as freeware (including BASS, which I mentioned before).

Should be enough to give you an idea what adventure games are if you are unfamiliar ^_^.
