    Are you stuck on yourself?

Judging from the past conversations you've had with friends online or offline, do you spend more time talking to them about yourself, or do you mainly listen to them? Do you take more interest in telling them things, or do you take more interest in listening to what they have to say?

I guess it's pretty common to be more interested in your own life, but then I like to hear what goes on in other's lives. But, I have to admit, I feel more excited to tell somebody something rather than hearing news from them.. I can't really help it.

Re: Are you stuck on yourself?

Well, I consider myself to be quite boring, so I would much rather hear what goes on in other peoples' lives than tell people about my own. If I'm being completely honest, the questions I kind of hate to be asked are things like "How are you?" or "What are you up to?", because I never have anything of interest to say other than "I'm okay" or "Not a whole lot". It's probably frustrating for the other person too, because when you give automated responses like that, there's not a whole lot to build on conversation-wise. So what I try to do is keep the person talking about themselves, and offer bits of advice or feedback here and there if they want it.

Haha! I feel similarly. When I get asked, "What are you up to?" my initial thought is, "Obviously nothing if I'm online and talking to you." But I'm usually a weenie and respond with "Nothing" or "Not much." If the person cares enough to pursue that line of questioning, I'll try to be more detailed, but it's usually just obligatory. And if I've got something worth sharing, I'll share it without any prompting.

But I admit, I'm guilty of asking that kind of question when I get IM'd by someone who just wants to chat and didn't have anything in particular in mind to say. I get easily bored with small talk. I sort of fail at it. So when another person I don't know so well wants to do all the talking, I let them. Unless it's excessive. But if I've got something on my mind or if someone asks what I think about something, I'll share pretty readily. Also, I occasionally like stating opinions or that are not really my own. Don't we all?

Re: Are you stuck on yourself?

    Ah Jin ^^;

I tend not to volunteer information about how my life is going unless someone directly. It is just not in my nature to want to talk about myself. That tends to change when I'm trying to help someone out and I will often provide counter points or similarities from my own experiences, but it is only to help make a point I am making at the time. But that tends to really be the only time I freely volunteer up personal information unless directly asked.

I prefer to listen to other people and leave my own problems out. I certainly do enjoy when someone takes an interest in what I'm doing or whatever, but I end up feeling it is a little strange and self-centered to talk about myself needlessly. Helps being a private person as well I guess though.

The amount of information I give out and conversation I carry tends to vary on the person. Complete strangers that find me through TFF and IM I tend to be polite but brief. It usually takes a specific personality type to make me open up or a series of conversations that makes me feel like we have something in common.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.

Re: Are you stuck on yourself?

Stuck on myself? Not so much.
Stuck on my newest favourite toy? Certainly.

I'm fairly open, a lot of people might hear more from me then they want to, but then again even I've encountered people online who could make me cringe from just how open they are.

I can listen to people, I can talk to most people, but my love of talking about whatever possession I just got has really annoyed some people in the past. I do it IRL too and half the time half my friends end up getting whatever I was just raving about.

I'm also a huge fan of interesting stories, both my own and those of others. As Chopper Read himself once said 'Never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn'.

When talking to my friends it is usually even. I will talk about myself, then they talk, then back and forth. Somtimes though I tend to talk more about myself, and not listen to them.

Re: Are you stuck on yourself?

I'm a mixture of both, depending on my mood and if I'm busy doing something else at the time. Also, I guess with who I'm talking to.

I enjoy spilling my whole day out to someone on MSN when I'm excited, and if I know they're interested. I can't be bothered with people who don't take an interest, and can only reply back with a smilie face, or something that was the length of 1/50th of what I wrote. It's like, "Hey, you asked me how my day went, I told you and all I get is a 'Haha, xD'? You suck."

    Sure, I know I do it too, but that's rare and usually because I have other things on my mind. I love hearing about how someone's morning, day, evening went. Perhaps not all the details, but something other than "It was okay" is nice. What's boring to one person, might actually be interesting to me. ^^;

Once or twice I've been landed with someone on MSN who seems to force a 'conversation' on to me. One of my friends sends me an emoticon or a *poke* every ten minutes if I've not said something. I don't have the time or energy to entertain someone constantly on MSN, especially if they're not contributing something sufficient to help me keep a conversation going.

Re: Are you stuck on yourself?

Hmm, I tend to bable randomly, ends up with some really odd convo topics. Not much of a fan of talking about myself but i do open up sometimes if i feel that there's something worthwhile to say.

I kinda choose my topics based on who i'm talking to and if i think it'll intrest them, I'm not the kind of person to just constantly talk about a certain thing regardless of how many times the other person has heard you say the same god damned thing. Makes it slightly more difficult to talk to some people, because i know they're not interested in my hobbies it limits the available topics somewhat.

Although then again i've formed a habit of randomly describing what i'm currently watching/playing/doing to confuse the hell out of people, it's pretty funny to see them trying to work out what the hell you're talking about, a bit evil though

    The Gargoyle
    SPOILER!!:

    The gargoyle sits, solemnly, alone
    That silent man of stone
Here, for his deeds he must atone

    Beaten eyes stare blankly
    Withered arms curved and wrinkly
    Bat-like wings spread fully

For once he was a man deceitful
His soul decored in black so hateful
From his despair grew pain most vengeful

With his death he was deserted
    Left condemned and desecrated
    Bound to form most understated

And now he is but a statue made of stone
    Sitting all alone

    Star Gaze
    SPOILER!!:
High in the sky, blinking down on us
    We all watch the stars
    Believing, as we do
That friends and lovers long since moved away are staring upwards too
Remembering us as we remember them
Smiling in the light of an unatainable star
And even if the star was snuffed out at that very moment
    We would never know
    We just keep smiling
And believe the star is true

If anyone has talked to me on MSN you know all I do is spam you with a wall of text. Like first it's like, I say hi what's up some way then they say reply with hi and then I spam them with random thoughts.
