Generally speaking, do you think you're better than most people?
For example:
When you drive to work everyday are you constantly yelling at "idiots" who make the "wrong" decisions?
Just gonna be honest here and say I do feel like I'm better than most people. I don't usually **** things up, I work hard (when I work ), and if I do happen to **** something up I don't let it happen again. Therefore I can justify saying that 80% or more of people are dumb and I am better than them.
edit: also this may clear up some local questions any of you might wanted to ask me! rofl
@Che: Do you like Japanese school girls with short skirts? It's something I've been thinking about when I see your signature.

I do have a habit of thinking that I'm better than most people especially with those who constantly make stupid decisions. I don't reveal it to those around me. The only times when my ego starts flaring up is when someone can't draw as well as I am, haha. I am aware that there are artists who can draw better than I am though.
I'm generally a modest person and I'm not used to getting compliments. I really don't like the feeling that I'm better than someone.
You probably **** up more often than you think, Che. Maybe not in your own eyes, but in others' eyes. Maybe what you're doing at the time seems perfectly legitimate to you, but to someone watching you, they might be thinking, "What an inconsiderate ****/**** up/whatever." You probably do things from time to time that, if you saw someone else doing it/someone else did it to you, you'd get pissed at them. That, I think, is the case with most everyone, myself included. Every once in a while, I'll catch myself doing something that would piss me off if someone did it to me. Like...
-Speeding up so someone can't go around me, even though I'd been perfectly content to drive at a slower speed until they began to make their move.
-Not letting someone cross at the cross walk, even though I had ample time to stop and let them walk.
-Not letting someone pull out of a parking spot
-Generally committing some **** up while driving, and not realizing it until afterward.
That's mostly examples of driving... although I can't really think of other examples of things, as per you mentioned that one thing. I think it's because, whether we'd like to admit it or not, we're all selfish to some extent. We're all imperfect. I'll admit that I frequently feel like I'm better, however. Or at least that other people are "so damned stupid!"
There I go, serious-ing up a thread that was probably supposed to be mostly humorous. Oh well. Anyhoo...
Of course, if you lived in a town where it's not uncommon to hear about someone failing their English exam because they constantly used 'u' instead of 'you' in the exam, you'd feel like I do to.
I think everyone tends to think a little too highly of themselves sometimes. It's just part of most everyone's nature to think that the stuff that we do makes an impact on the others around us.
I hate to admit it, but yeah, when I see someone doing something that makes no sense to me, I'll sit back and think 'Why did you just do that? I wish you were born with my common sense so you wouldn't have made that mistake.'
Then again, they probably think that way about some of the stupid stuff I do/done.
When it comes to lifestyle, I don't think I'm better. I'm well aware of the fact that nobody is perfect and we all make stupid mistakes. I've always felt like it was wrong to look down on someone who has less than me or leads a very unfortunate life. It's not always their fault that they ended up that way.
If someone really thinks they're better than everyone, then they need to get their head out of their ass and see things for how they really are.
Shoving status aside, I believe we're all on the same equal ground, as far as importance goes.
We ARE better in certain areas than other people. Everyone has their strengths, it's a fact. But to look down on others for not being as good as you in that subject is a bit on the egotistical side. People can improve and bite you in the ass years later if they really wanted to try. There will always be someone who can rise above you. There will always be someone better than you, period.
I have found myself looking down on people more than once, but it's mainly when they think they are better. When someone says "I'm better than everyone", they're just asking to be criticized.
These are the people I look down on:
1. Women who strictly eat cob salads and wear the most expensive clothes/jewelry, get their nails manicured every week, get their hair done every week, bitch at their husbands about money when the guy makes everything... and after all that, they look down on other people for not being as 'wonderful' as they are.
2. Artists who only draw anime and can't accept critique. This doesn't go for all anime artists, but I just can't stand those ones on some art forums who bitch and whine when people point out mistakes in their work. To draw good anime, you have to study anatomy. When an artist hasn't studied enough anatomy, it shows.. it definitely shows. Hair, clothes, and color aren't the only thing that matters when drawing a human. When it comes down to it though, I don't care how good someone draws. If they act all high and mightier than everyone, I can't help but want to see them dragged from their 'thrones'.
3. Rabid Twilight fans. The rabid kind. I don't think I need to explain.((How about rabid fans of anything?))
4. People who kid themselves into thinking they know everything in a debate when they haven't studied what they're debating about. It's fun to watch people pwn them, heh.
There's a lot more, but I don't see the point in listing everything. Fact is, we all look down on someone whether we acknowledge it or not. But when it comes to lifestyle and misfortunes such as diseases/viruses/anyothersickness, I just can't look down on them.
I don't think I'm better than anyone but people tell me I'm often overcritical of myself so I'll leave that for others to decide

Meier: Hey Pete, I said I started to, it just didn't end the with the same number of women. Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.
Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

We're only human. We all **** up every now and then, - it's normal, unless someone repeats the same mistakes again and again and again. Some people learn from their ****-ups faster than others though.
I've never met a perfect human, nor would I expect to. Life would be pretty boring if everyone was 100% efficient.
That said, I wouldn't say I was 'better' than anyone. Maybe at certain things, but not better as a whole.

I can be quite self deprecative at times, but even when I see myself or something I do as a joke, the vast majority of people are either just as bad or worse, some not seeing it at all.

I'm thinking about creating a hybrid. A dolphin-monkey. Half dolphin, half monkey. Do you think it's possible?
I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

It depends on how you define 'better.' If it's in the sense that 'I am better at basketball because I have a greater percentage of successful shots', then, yes, everyone does that. In all likelihood, I'm better at basketball than you. However, I've never even seen a baseball bat. Lots of people are better than me at baseball.
If it's in the sense that 'I'm better than you and more deserving than you', then you are talking about the scum of the earth.
The best lesson I ever learned at college (high school) was about servant leadership. I went to a Catholic college, but don't stop reading just because I'm about to use the name 'Jesus'. Anyhoo, Jesus was a servant, for humanity in general, and anyone in particular. The image of Jesus washing people's feet is the most humbling of religious symbols, at least to me. I was taught, as a student leader, to never place myself above the rank of servant. "For if you place yourself above a servant, then you have just placed yourself above the saviour."
I mess up quiet often, and do alot of things that I probably shouldn't. Even so I still think that I am better than everyone else. In reality I probably am not better, but I still like to think so....

This.......I know i am more knowledgeable than the average person when it comes to computer networking and subnetting.
But one of the posters above who had an interest in basketball would whoop me something serious. I suck at every sport known to man execpt wrestling\ sub grappling. My friends even joke that i wrestle because i can not play any other sport.
With that said anyone who thinks they are better than everyone in every aspect deserves a severe reality check. Most of us have a skill or have accquired some type of ability that makes us superior in some shape or form.
I know my doctor better know more about medicine than i do.

To fight is a man's instinct; if men have nothing else to fight over they will fight over words, fancies, or women, or they will fight because they dislike each other's looks, or because they have met walking in opposite directions” - George Santayana
Like a lot of others have already said, we're all better at at least one thing than our peers.
Look at me, I'm a terrible outfielder in baseball, but I'm the only kid who can handle pitchers and is dumb enough to get behind the plate.
Likewise, we all are naturally inclined to think we're better than everyone at something. If we were just mediocre at everything, what the hell kind of confidence would we have in ourselves?
