I've had several run ins with the Mythic Dawn.
Has anyone here ever had run-ins with Wiccans, Witches or any students of the Occult?
In this day and age, the few that follow or know of these things are mostly writers or the outlying overly-imaginative and superstitious.
I personally have met a lot of them, actually. Some people consider it almost a fashion and tack the titles on for show. Some are strangely obsessed people. And some, like myself, find the very idea, fascinating...perhaps a little funny.
Rocky's thread brought this to my mind, btw. Although, I'm definitely not a believer in magic, I also have studied various types of esoterica. As I said, I am not a believer, most of my obsession was a side-effect of my Asperger's and my close contact with some practitioners.
No judgements, please. I can confirm they are just people, be they a bit more...credulous.

I totally dated a dumb bitch in high school that claimed she was a Wiccan, but I'm pretty sure it was just one of many things she faked to seem cool and different. Highschool was a bitch and a half wasn't it?

But yeah, plenty of High-schoolers will do that shit. Then one day they wake up and their need-attention gene turns off, they tear down their Jimmy Eat World posters and their altars to AFI, cover up their scars, put away their odes to Ariadne or their candles and incense and grow the **** up.(ideally) Maybe it's something normal people grow out of? idk.
I'm talking about the strange people who believe this stuff. Old Voodoo, practitioners. Wiccans. Satanists.
These people live in a different world than everyone else. Every bad turn of luck could be a hex cast by an unknown enemy or part of the Three-fold Law. Every turn of good luck could be a successful spell or the arrangement of planets and constellations.

Actually wasn't that many type of people at my high school. School was bad. There were a handful of off the wall people but I don't think any of them actually thought they were any of that shit. Maybe a cat.

Since I don't go up to people and ask what their religion is I'm not sure. Are there ways to identify Wiccans without drawing attention? Can I assume all Wiccans are Twilight fans or are at least deeply obsessed somehow?

Sin I've ran into a very few Wiccans that I would say actually believe it. You would be surprised how many people use it as an out when talking about the spiritual world but aren't actually believers, they just don't know how to say 'go away'!
Those that I have met seem usually pretty outlandish. I remember going into a 'book' store somewhere one time and I should have known something was up by the name, which I've also forgotten. Anyway turned out to be a wiccan store selling all their witchy stuff. I spoke to some of the 'clerks' about what it was they were into and some of it seemed pretty crazy.

I was friends with this guy in high school who at first claimed to be atheist, but then chanced his mind and said that he was Wiccian. He would always talk about "the goddess," or about how he could place curses on people, or about how vampires should always ride Kawasaki Motorcycles, or about how good he thought that shitty Twilight series was, or some stupid shit like that.
I don't think he was an actual Wiccian though. I think he was just saying it to look cool. It didn't make him look cool, though. It just made him look like a ****ing idiot. And now because of him, I have the bias that all Wiccians are ****ing idiots.
Soldier, I don't think there is anyway to tell physically, no. There may be various symbols they carry on their person that identify them as Wiccans, but there are so many. Sun crosses, celtic crosses, charms...etc. The best way to know is if they tell you.
And deeply obsessed? Well they're not all zealots, there are the orthodox, the radical and the average, just like everything else.
And Clint, idk, they're not ALL morons, but certainly they're all different. Has anyone ever had that one weird grandmother who talks about bad luck if you break a mirror, or throwing salt over her shoulder, etc... Or have you met someone that carries something around for good luck? Wiccan's don't believe in luck, per se, but they believe they can generate their own to a degree.
And as far as the Goddess, all Wiccans say something like that. Goddess is kind of a stand in term for the forces that surround them, i.e. rather than actually calling it fate or luck.

What thread was this that I inspired you from again Sin? I was trying to figure it out by looking through all threads I made but I got nothing.
But anyways, I guess I have yet to meet a real Wiccan in person. I knew of people who called themselves Wiccan back in high school, but again I think they did it more out of a fad than anything.
Some kid from high school turned out to be a Satanist though. We talked one day about it, he showed me his book and stuff, it was kind of interesting on how satanism and atheism have many similarities but still nothing that I'd like to get myself involved in.

hahas, updated July 28th (oldie but goodie!):
I knew a girl in college who was Wiccan. I found out during a game of Apples to Apples. The adjective was something a little insulting, I guess, like "lame" or "stupid" and I had a noun card that said "witches" that I wanted to get rid of, and nothing else fit, so I just put that down. Well, it was this girl's turn to be the uh... noun chooser... and she got kind of pissed. "WHO DID THIS?! THAT'S NOT FUNNY!"
Except it was funny.
Mostly because she was trying to have sex with my boyfriend at the time. And that is definitely lame and/or stupid.
I'd probably enjoy meeting a Wiccan who wasn't an asshole. I'm sure they exist.
Curious?

I don't think I've met a Wiccan. My friend went to a witches/coming of spring camping thing last year, but I think her and her family just went for the experience. Sounded like fun, tbh.
But yeah. I don't think I know a Wiccan. I know a woman who is really "out there" with that sort of stuff, into her Ouija boards and weird... magic things. She changed her religious views to Wiccan once, but that didn't really last long. To me, she was more of an emotion vampire, if anything.
Quite honestly, I doubt I'll ever meet a Wiccan I'll like. I have the mental image of one in my head, and if they're anything like the woman I mentioned, I'll stay away from them.
This one. It's not a necessarily Wiccan charm/spell but it is involved in magick.
And Satanism is more kind of a self-help "I'm better than you" philosophy. There might be magick involved, don't know much about it. It was founded by a one, Anton LeVay who was a circus performer(as I recall he played the Calliope). But he noticed many of the same people who would attend the circus' religious and Christian shows, also attended the burlesques with strippers and hookers. He formed a kind of loathing for hypocrisy and Christianity, etc...Satanism was born.
Most Wiccans are very nice people, witches which is sort of a rogue branch of the religion are generally thought of as out for themselves and are private practitioners, using spells that may cause harm(Black Magick). But WICCANs cast magick spells for the good of themselves and others(Called White Magick). Some of them own a business where they will cast a spell for you, for a price of course. Many large corporations will hire a Wiccan to cast good luck for their businesses.
They ALL believe in something called the Three Fold Law, which is to say that whatever good you do or bad you do will come back to you three times over. Which is one of the reasons Wiccans like to stay away from harmful spells.

i'm amazed that no one has a good (meaning positive) wiccan story at all.

Oh so that's what that is. Someone I know posts on Facebook from time to time saying that a lot. Did say she was Wiccan, but never got into it more than that.
She's pretty cool, so I guess that's one semi-positive review?
