Re: What is your favorite culture and why?

Dino who said I liked a specific culture. I don't because I don't care to learn about a culture I don't know. I was raised in this culture we all live in(United States of America), thus I know it.

If you know so much about baseball, but never played it. Does that mean you know how to play baseball?

In my psychology book there is a giant chapter on a similar subject.
One can only learn from learning. Makes no sense, same thing I thought. But in other words, if I read 1,000 books and studied the thousand books on rocket engineering, does that mean I know how to build a rocket? Yes, or at least it should.
    Think about it.

That is a sweet ass metaphor that gets right to the bottom of this debate. Let's get a "AMEN" and a response.

Tell me, because I apparently do not understand.
What are the most common American cultures?
Do you know anything about the history of the United States? Go ahead and read about it, think about it for a while, and then try to answer logically.

Is "culture" to you really just anything that's not an everyday thing for you?

Define for me what "Exotic" means. If you don't just say black people and asians, I might post telling you a bit about the history of the U.S. and all the different cultures we have here.

It makes total sense. How else do you learn? You didn't put gloves on when you grabbed for the plate you had in the microwave for minutes upon minutes, thus you burned your hand. What did you learn? OH SHIT LEARNING

That's experience, which is the part I left out on purpose, knowing you would bring that up.
    Anyways.

I obviously know about America guy. Do I like it's HISTORY???
No, not all specs of culture stem from history.

Anyways, I again wait to here what American Culture is.

I had not heard of Brazil being heavy into the gaming culture. Are they on the FPS side of things, bc I only really follow the RTS and Fighting games myself. I would still give the culture props for supporting the sport even if they're doing it like a bunch of douche bags.

Going out on a limb here, but does your friend live, or has he lived, in Japan?

Re: What is your favorite culture and why?

I think this topic should be taken more seriously. I think it's pretty interesting, and people are ruining it by being nit picky. You can like a culture for any number of reasons. I don't think this is meant to be a debate about which is the best culture. It's supposed to be about your favorite culture.

As for me, I kind of like the Japanese culture as well. I've never lived in Japan, so I can't say from first-hand experience, but I really like how their society is very structured. Even from the language you can tell that everyone has their place in society, and I kind of like that. I think it would be cool to live in that kind of environment. It seems more respectful. Also, it seems like the people of Japan are very hard working, which is a plus. At least this is what I've seen from people of Japanese descent around me. Perhaps that is a fluke, but the average American I've seen ends up being pretty lazy. I also like Japanese music. Perhaps I haven't tried hard enough to look for music in all languages/cultures, but I haven't been disappointed with most of the Japanese music I've heard, while I can't say the same for American, Spanish, Latino, and Arab. Even looking at the translation of the lyrics, many songs seem to have beautiful meanings.

As for other cultures, I kind of like some of the cultures in Central and South America as well. It seems nice how family is so important in most of their cultures. I don't really like how in the US, most people are really individualized or solitary. From my travels, they also seem to be pretty nice people, but it is hard to judge this from a tourist standpoint, I suppose. Also, I really like the Spanish language too. Probably not as much as Japanese, but it is better than most of the other languages I've heard in my opinion.

The culture that I've grown up in isn't that bad, but there are definitely improvements that would make it better. No culture is perfect.

Edit: Replying to what I've seen that was posted while I was typing, it is really hard to have a true insight on another culture since most people don't live in other cultures unless they are in the same country. I think you can get a pretty good insight on another culture from talking to people who are immersed in the culture and from looking at the language and media from the country. It's not perfect, but I think it is good enough to speculate at what the culture is like at least on a basic level.

And in all honesty, I hate america and can't wait to get out of here fast enough.
Going on about your last comment about me proving your point, I really didn't. You described Japanese culture as smaller than your own, and I said it wasn't.

What kind of things do you expect? Sure, I know that over there, there are particular mannerisms you should follow out of respect, but mostly if you respect the people where you come from, there shouldn't be a huge problem over there. Also, what kind of "ways" are you on about? Japan is diverse - there's NO certain "way" of anything.

Also, I'm more or less with Treize. This thread has turned into an off-topic spam fest and it's making it difficult for other people to respond.
