2 years. Save 1 million, spend the rest slowly....save the 5 grandish a month I should be making in interest from the bank.
Let's say you start accumulating 1,000,000$ USD per year starting right now. You can't get it until you "cash out", in which you stop receiving the money altogether.
How long would it be before you cashed out?
(Example, you wait 5 years, then cash out and receive 5,000,000$ USD.)
I would wait 1-2 years max. Invest in a McDonalds. I would rather be young with a steady income off a 1-2 mil investment than old with 50,000,000$.

5 years. Would allow me to do 2 - 3 good investments and sit on some cash.
if I didn't have the chance to enjoy it before hand, I'd never know the difference anyways.
One year.
I'm investing much less than 1 million and it's already getting to the point where my gains on initial investments have me covered for most things I want. The important part is being able to see where to invest money and when to end things to provide greatest profit/least losses.

I'm not really a big spender. So I'll be using it, and gaining the interest at the same time. So I guess I'll just be spending what I gain on the interest. But I guess if I've got bills and other things I need to pay for, and on top of that things I want or need for me/family/house, then I suppose it'd go quickler. So I'd invest in something so I'll always have that little bit of extra income.
I don't know what I'd like to invest in, but perhaps something to do with games/gaming if I can find something suitable. Maybe I'll buy houses for cheap, do them up and put them back on the market with the added value.
I'd just enjoy the money as some kind of... back up plan, and feeling a little safer if things go wrong. Nothing would really change whether I had loads of money or not.
I'd wait one year. Even a million dollars is a LOT of money. With that, I could purchase an efficient car, put myself through school, pay off my debt and purchase a small house, and still have a few hundred thousand leftover.
I'd probably blow a little bit of it, but really, I think working isn't such a bad thing, especially if i could do it on my terms by having that cushion to fall back on.
(TFF Family):
Two years, maybe three, nothing above though. I would invest some of the money of course, buy some Apple and Coca Cola shares, maybe even something risky, though most of the money would end up in real estates.
It's always been a profitable business, especially in areas where price of property's just keeps rising, such as here where I live. I would also leave a small portion for myself, to spend it on whatever I need.

I would wait 2 years. Then I would withdraw and invest in Apple. Apple is huge right now, so my money would prolly multiple a great deal. I would also pay off my debts, then live happily for a while.
I would probably wait about 4 years... then just get an interest accruing account and live in some 3rd world country with good internet.

though I could spend it all on surgery, get my looks back seeing as I'l be getting old ]:
Wait 4 years, invest some of it, put some of it into savings and government bonds, put some of it towards bills for the next few years, and spend the rest sensibly.

I'd probably sit on it for a few years while I'm in college, let it accumulate and get interest and all that. Then I'd spend some of it, use some to pay off my car and other assorted bills and perhaps spread the wealth a bit among family and friends. The majority of it would be used to max out retirement accounts and invested in various ways.
Being idle isn't really my thing though so I'd probably still work, just not at such a shitty job. I'd get a job I like in my career field (once I figure out what it is). Might do some traveling on vacations.
I don't think I'd ever need such an obscene amount of money though so I'd also figure out what to use it for after maximizing returns for a decade or two. Not necessarily charities so much as making a tangible, physical difference. Providing the funding for a complete overhaul of my state's transportation systems, for instance. Import a bullet train to use on the Downeaster line. Stuff like that.
At least, that's what I've worked out so far. I've actually thought about this very subject quite a bit. In case I ever get rich off my novels, hah.

I'd probably keep it growing for six years. By then, I should get out of college...actually, I might keep it longer if I stay in school for longer than that. Then I should have at least six million. I'd use that money to pay off my school loans and then put bits and pieces of it into different bank accounts so I don't remember to spend all of it. Save that for a rainy....hurricaney day.
Oooh, I'd buy a Prius, a fridge full of ice cream, and pay off anything else my family still has going on. But seriously, I wouldn't have much to do with that kind of money. If it came down to it, I might just keep it going longer until I really needed it, because I'm no good with business or keeping track of different companies' progress. A fresh-out-of-college-kid has no need for money like that anyway. =/
Wow. I'm boring.
You all lack patience.
I'd wait 10-20 years. I'll finish Uni in another year if I don't do post-grad, and probably an additional three if I do, which is more likely. That's four years without a great amount of income, but given generous government assistance, it's entirely feasible. Then being skilled and such, I can get a profession that I enjoy, and that makes a difference. All the while, there's a secret and obscene amount of wealth growing.
In 20 years time, at $20 million plus interest, I may have worked out what to do with the money. I probably would have accumulated significant debt, as any spending in that time would have been risk-free. I'd pay those off, but I'd assume I'd already living as comfortably as I need. So then I'd invest in green technology: make a difference and receive a return, which I will re-invest, and/or use to support political campaigns.
A lot of it I would aim to help developing countries, especially in adjusting to the effects of climate change. Probably in the Pacific Islands, as that's a region that I know more about that elsewhere, and elsewhere knows very little about, and routinely ignores. So there I could make the largest impact. But I wouldn't necessarily 'give it away'. If I can keep income coming in, I can continually send it out.
I would cash out immediately, buy TFF and ban Chad.
Money well spent.
Until now!
well since im young, and im considering going into the military, i would wait 4 to 12 years depending on how many enlists/contract i want to take in the service, during which i will put myself through college and living expenses through the military, and once i have a degree and get dicharged/retired, i have a nice chunk of change to do what i please with, probably around 8 or 12 mil.

I'd save it up until I decide to get married and then once I do, I could be like "oh hey honey btw I am a multimillionaire" and see how that ends up. Until then though I wouldn't mention it to anyone because I don't need no golddiggers.

hahas, updated July 28th (oldie but goodie!):
Well I honestly don't need the money right now, so I'd wait about 10 years, maybe more. 10 million is an insane amount of money. I'd give some to my family (Parents - 1 mil each and the same to my brothers and nan), put some towards college (£4000 will get me through the college I want to go to).
Over 3 mil left, put some towards a house and then set up college funds for my kids. If I have any left, I'll travel the world with it. Buy a nice villa somewhere so my family and I can escape there sometime.
Of course, I'm gonna be famous anyway. So there's a few more mil on top.
I'd wait a few years, then "cash out," give some to charity/church, and live frugally for the rest of my life, spending some money on a few luxuries, but mostly keep it saved. Because I'm boring. I'd also probably keep on working, like DH, although maybe only part time/whenever I felt like it. Anyhoo...

I'd have to be an idiot to cash out when I'm alive, especially when so many people depend on support. I'd die with the money still accumulating annually, cash out in my will, and leave all the money to my family. Any other option is just ****ing stupid and self-indulgent.
I wouldn't wait too long. I'd want the money to come before I stop studying. I probably wouldn't wait longer than 2 years. But then again, with this kind of money, I could just buy myself a nice place, study some more without having to worry about money ever.
But really having that kind of money at any point of your life is a nice treat.
Crao Porr Cock8: Getting it while the getting's good
I'd have to cash out before it all goes kaput due to rampant inflation and everyone's running around with $1,000,000 bills.
So probably 4-6 years, depending on circumstance. A million dollars doesn't go nearly as far as it used to, and it's probably not getting any better, so the faster that money is invested and accruing interest/making profit, the better off I'll be in the long run.
I would settle either in Northern California, Canada, or if America keeps facerolling itself with "overseas contingency operations", I'll move to Denmark and build a comfortable country house. The upkeep of the house will keep me busy, and every year a percentage of my earnings will be wired to a bank in Switzerland.
I'd like to start/buy in on an end-of-life care ETF because people are about to start dying in droves and if I can create a market for that, hey, all the better.
I would definitely buy lots of guns and ammunition, too. Those are investments that can save your life. I would also retro-fit my car to run on electricity and charge itself during the day from solar energy.
Definitely short the 10 year treasury bond. The dollar will probably never return to its former glory.
Other than that, play it by ear. Life will still happen day by day, even if I'm filthy rich.

Three years. Then I'd get a new place to live since the current place needs too much work than I'm willing to impart; long story short, old people lived there then died and now the place is trapped in the 70's.
I'd like to live off the interest after that. And get a new car; nothing too expensive. An Aygo or something. Or maybe a nice car like my boyfriends', just so that we'd both have the run of the street. /shrug. I like cars.
