What our living spaces are like

I did a search, and apparently this topic has never come up.

What this thread asks is what you have to put up with while trying to use your computer.

With me, my computer is in my room, and my room is in the basement, and the basement is frikkin' cold. So right now I'm typing with cold hands and it's not fun (not to mention my feet are freezing).

At least during the day the television over top of me isn't too loud, so I don't have to deal with noise over my head too.

How about the rest of you?

Re: What our living spaces are like

erm.. I'm usually in bed on my laptop whenever I'm online.

Well, I don't have to deal with anything other than my computer getting hot on my lap and burning my leg lol. Also, I try to not have it charging all the time so once the battery is full I have to get my lazy self up an unplug it. Other than that I think I'm good

I think I'm on the computer too much so lately I've been trying to let it rest by not being on it all the time

Also I think there's an Ozone layer between my doorway and the rest of the house. If it's hot, my room is like 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house so If it's hot I'll go to the living room or kitchen table, if no one's home.

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

Re: What our living spaces are like

My room is usually always warm. It's on top of the lounge, directly above where the fireplace is. Also, the chimney goes up through my room, so heat comes from there. I've painted my walls a dark red colour, so that helps to absorb the heat.

In the mornings, it get's really cold though. The sun comes up on the other side of the flat, so my side is left in shade.

My laptop is nearly always on. Seriously... all my work is done via laptop, and I entertain myself by searching the web. My television and PS3 sit at the bottom of my bed on the shelf, so that's always directly infront of me.

I hate that. I use a cushion under my laptop to stop it burning my legs. xD

Re: What our living spaces are like

My room is in the attic. It doesn't really look like an attic though. We did a lot of renovation to it, so we can have some extra rooms as bedrooms for my really large family. Even though people say heat rises, I'm always cold up here, which is why when I'm on the computer, I usually use my laptop and snuggle with some blankets while I'm in bed. In the warmer months, I'll start using my desk again. ^^

@ Gypsy and Entity- Do you not have cooling fans that you can rest your laptop on? It works wonders for mine, and I don't ever get burned.

I take my laptop to my living, and sit on my ass. I watch tv while on my laptop.

Sometimes I take it to my bed, and mellow out for a little bit...

Re: What our living spaces are like

In my room, laptop is on the desk. TV is on and playing either whatever is on, movies or video games. I have a sweet swivel chair so I can quickly whip around from my tv to my laptop. Once I get tired I'll usually sit in bed with my laptop instead. My room is in the upstairs btw, its facing the east so it stays fairly warm even in the winter, though if I dont keep the blinds open then my room gets chillay. Inversely, it can get too hot in the summer if I dont keep the blinds closed, so yeah.

Re: What our living spaces are like

I've got my tv about 5 feet from the foot of my bed. It makes my life so lazy and I love it. Other than that, my room stays a pretty average temperature, until winter. Then the cold air seeps in through the air conditioner, and I have to seal it with duct tape and plastic.

If I had the room I'd have my desktop set up in my room, but until I do, it's in the demi-office.

Re: What our living spaces are like

I have two rooms. So I guess I'll do both.

My PC is in my own lounge room. My cats are usually in here. There is also another PC, a PS2, Xbox, Wii, 360 and all of my games in here. TV obviously. There's an organ and a few other things. The window is almost the size of the wall on that side. It looks out to the bush. This room is on the colder end of the house and the window being so big doesn't help the cool air coming in.

I am on the laptop in my room a lot too. My room is the coldest AND the hottest room in the house. In Winter it's cold and I wouldn't survive without many blankets ontop of my electric one. I have a Queen size bed. Which is apparently called different things in different countries. The second biggest one?. With a mirror, wardrobe, bedside table and things. I have the same sized window. I prefer being in my room. But reception isn't as good. In Summer my room gets well over 40 degrees and my fan doesn't work well. So I try to avoid it at all costs.

What the shit? The fact that you're even using a computer means you no longer have the right to complain about using it. You can't complain about it being cold, either. There are a lot of people in the world that don't have the luxury of heated living or being able to complain about sitting at their computer chairs.

Our desktop PC is upstairs in the guest room, and my laptop is downstairs on the kitchen table so if I want to check something I'm not leaving the kiddo alone downstairs.

There isn't really much that I have to "put up with", the set up works for us.

Re: What our living spaces are like

Nothing to complain about here. I have half the house (7 rooms, bathroom included) as my own apartment. I turned what my mom was using as a den into my office, which is where my computer now sits. No distractions, no sharing, full privacy.

It's a bit cool sometimes in the winter but I can just grab my blanket or a fleece if I really feel it necessary. I don't turn my heat up too high for that reason, and to save a bit of money. I don't pay for heat and I'd like to keep it that way so I try not to use it excessively. It'll be hot as sin in here during the summer but I'm hoping the strategic placement of my AC and the use of ceiling fans will minimize the discomfort.

Re: What our living spaces are like

I'm actually in the longest room of the house, right at the top. The gallery, not attic. It can get pretty cold in here but I have an oil heater and radiators so I can't really complain. The main problem with being up here is the weather. I have really old stained glass windows (It's basically just randomly placed coloured squares) and they can make a hell of a racket when the wind hits them. I like the sound of rain hitting my roof, though. It's quite peaceful. All in all I think the flaws of my room can be turned to my advantage. After all, if it's cold them warming up feels great.
