Honestly.
When the game came out, all I heard was, "Just play the game."
Other then that, not many people I know of talked about it.
For some reason I went into general gaming tonight and found the selection of topics there to actually be very limited. It has been this way for a very very long time. There are millions of games out there but very little topic. For instance I have been playing L.A. Noire lately and decided to do a search for the title in general gaming. To my confusion search results were 0?
Not sure where this rant is going but even the active topics in the last few months were very limited. Thoughts as to why this is?

I dont think a whole lot of the vets/older people here play a lot of videogames, which probably attributes to the general slowness in Gen Gaming. The other younger kids probably either go to different gaming sites for that particular game (much like we went to a particular FF website, etc), or just don't talk about it.
Rule 1 do not talk about fight club!

Laziness, perhaps? Or maybe people don't have the kind of money to be spending it on new games that just released so they are waiting for the price to hit in a decent range... Not so fun talking about games you don't have, and there's only so many times one can say "I'm excited for this game!" before it gets old.
Click at your own risk.:
I played the game, I just never felt the need to post about it. If I had had any questions about it, I would have consulted google before posting here. And there's not much to discuss.
"This game is awesome!"
"Yep!"
"So original and innovative!"
"Yep!"
You can only talk about a game for so long before it gets old. As for why a thread never existed for it, not really sure, I didn't like it actually.

yeah I haven't really played videogames these last couple of years other than when I should've been studying for exams or when I was drowning in spare time.
I recently discovered the God of War games. I'm only playing one of them at the moment, but it seems promising.
The game is also a good way of refreshing my knowledge on Greek mythology because, you know, that is all girls want to hear about.

Well, considering FF9 was released in 2000, and 10, 10-2, 12, and 13 were all kind of sub par.. maybe Pete has something going there. (although I guess this is all opinion. xP)

I'd support pete's claim. FF slowly going down hill. *sigh*

To Meier Link's original question, I'm not really interested in that game somehow. The only game coming out any time soon that I am interested in is Skyrim, and I have Skyward Swords pre-ordered for some reason (probably because it doesn't take much to talk me into something some times.) For the last week or two, I've been playing Oblivion again. That 5th anniversary edition came out, and I bought it, because I didn't have it for PS3 yet, I guess. Find I like games better when I've got a controller in my hand, some how.
But yeah; not thrilled by anything that's coming out lately in particular. Any time a game gets hyped lately and I play it, I'm like, "...Meh." Except Dragon Age. Hopefully I didn't put my money in the wrong place when I bought Mass Effect 2...
And I like 10 and 12. Anyhoo...

L.A. Noire is cool and I'm dfinately going to play it when it's cheaper and possibly goty edition let's hope <3
Max Payne 3 is the only game i cant wait to play, and its the first game in a long time.
I blame EA, they control the majority of the market and all of what they produce is shit or starts out good and then they milk the market and make it shit eventually.
Rockstar are the only company i have faith in these days as they put love into their games and it shows.
So the reason i dont post much in general gaming these days is because i dont want to bitch and whine about how shit EA are..
I bet most of us don't have time nor will for games, at least not nearly as we used to. Take me for instance, I'll rather spend my time on something else, I still play games, though usually older titles I managed to skip, and with less intensity.
Also what Nix said, gaming industry is just not what it used to be, you know something's wrong when people praise games such as Dragon Age II.
Sig and Avy made by Unknown Entity
Compared to Origins, Dragon Age II is step backwards in every posible way. Characters, story, gameplay, setting, customatization, even music is inferior to what's seen in it's predecessor. They dumbed down Dragon Age to appeal to wider audience and boost their sales in which they susceded, but by doing so they released a mediocre game at best.
It's not that I don't like Dragon Age II, rather I'm hugely disappointed.
Sig and Avy made by Unknown Entity
New Games are boring, a lot of them are rehashes of rehashed rehashes.
LA Noire is amazing. A little repetitive, but amazing.
DA II is a good game, but when you compare it to DA, it definitely lacks. I'm hoping it was just a nice lead in for DA 3, or whatever they want to call it. More Leliana is what I say!
And yes, I stand by my statement that FF is going down the shitter, and hasn't been good in a decade.
IX was really the last great one, especially because it had that feel of playing something special.
X was a lackluster spectacular. Yes it had a lot of cool features and nice graphics, and voice acting, but those things don't make a game good. The story was kind of lame, and I didn't particularly find it all that inspiring.
XI, I didn't care to play it, mostly because I refuse to pay a subscription to play a single game online. I don't care what game it is, but I'll be damned if I'll be playing a knockoff of the "best" MMORPG, just because it has the FF name attached to it and a bunch of androgynous characters running around.
XII. This was another really pretty game, with some good voice acting and all that jazz. It was a little convoluted and really seemed to me, to be a kind of critique on the whole situation of what was going on in Iraq. Veiled political wars, with a real quest for magic rocks that also acted as a fuel source. Pop an upper and lower class caste system in there and you have yourself a game.
As for XIII, I've been so disappointed with the past 10 years worth of games, I honestly haven't even bothered to pick this one up. You take a look at games like Mass Effect 1 and Dragon Age Origins, and you're really just taken aback by how good they are, and how encompassing they are. With the past few FF games, I've had no desire to play them over, or hell, even finish X or XII.
Maybe it's because they all have the same shitty character designer as of late, or that I can't make myself and put him in the game, making decisions and tackling problems based on how I would like to. I mean, I know it's not a trait of FF, but it was never really given before in games, and now that it is, I want more of it.
I want more "oh shit" moments, like when Aeris dies, or when Vivi learns about the mortality of the Black Mages. I love seeing and feeling the very real emotions that are construed even through simple text and a 30 second clip of CGI.
The games today are all flash and no substance, and they really don't have anything to do with the heart of what the FF games used to be. Now it's all about trying to be super serious and to create a world full of stunning visuals and simplistic battle systems, which ultimately leave your characters essentially carbon copies, skills-wise. I want my mages to be the only characters to use magic, my tank to be the only one to use ridiculous weapons, my thieves to be the only ones who can steal, and my dragoons the only ones to jump. I don't want 6 to 8 forgettable characters, who I can swap out of battle at any time, to all have the same exact skills once I grind them out to their peaks; because that's what you're supposed to do in FF. You're supposed to spend a few hours leveling up, so that the next boss won't kick your ass.
Oh, and break the fourth wall, and don't be afraid to poke fun of yourself. It's a videogame, you don't have to be super serial all the time.
SOLDIERcHoSeNCrao Porr Cock8- Rebels, Rogues and Sworn Brothers
Pete has got it right.
I've been playing FF IX again, as wel as playing FF XII (which I really enjoy playing) for the first time and I've noticed how the story and characters of a game that has no voice acting whatsoever, and is about half as old as I am is more compelling and believable than a game that has the best a PlayStation 2 can technically offer.
Maybe I'm just getting older, but it seems that Square Enix is trying to appeal to youngsters who have a thing for 'epicness' and whatnot, even if it hardly does the story any good.
Or maybe they're trying to hold on to the succes formula of what Final Fantasy stands for too stubbronly?
Or maybe I don't know shit about videogames.
EDIT: Perhaps there's only so many amazing games a game developer can make with the same elements, even when mixing them up.

Crao Porr Cock8: Getting it while the getting's good
Yeah, I went back and played 9 after playing 13 last year, and it totally kicked 13's ass. I think it might be my second favorite numbered Final Fantasy before 6 (either behind or tied with Tactics for second overall.) I kinda want to play it again this year, but I got other new games I'm playing now. And 13? I traded it back in earlier this year. Not sure if I'm picking up Versus 13 or 13-2.
I also love the ability to plug yourself into a game, or just to do whatever you want to do, make whatever choices you want to make. That's why I love Elder Scrolls games and the new Fallout games (been messing around in Oblivion again, think I mentioned that last post.) Dragon Age was pretty good too. I've heard bad things about DA 2, however.
It's interesting to read Pete's opinions on the FF's, because I don't remember the last time I've read him talking about them, haha. I remember when I joined and FFX was the new thing. That got hyped up on this site. XII and XIII didn't seem to as much, however. Or did I just not pay attention? Anyhoo...
Wuv, Yer Mom
Tele, that's why I don't really talk about them. I haven't played a new one since I got FFXII back in 05 or 06, whenever it came out. I've replayed IV, VII and VI since then, and I keep wanting to get around to IX, but I've been so busy lately.
I think that one of the biggest problems is that now FF tries to do too much, with the same old team. Each game gets more epic and shiney, which is good for people who like to go "ooh" and "ahh." For the rest of us, it's just a new coat of paint on the same type of graphics. The voice acting is meh, and I think that it's mostly because I like to envision the characters sounding a certain way, when I first see them. If a voice doesn't match the character, I get a little disappointed. Also, why are there so many androgynous male leads? Why can't a dude just look like a dude?
I think that FF really needs some fresh blood. People with new ideas and a new design team. Yeah, I know it wouldn't be FF without the graphics and the epicness, but at the same time, it's just not doing it anymore.

In all honesty, I've been busy in the last few months. I can't talk about games all day at work, and come home and talk about them all night with people online. Shit, I have a life lol. I'd have happily made an L.A. Noire thread, but I was unsure of how many people here have an interest in the game, how the thread would go (for some reason, I hate it when people post "omg, dis game is owesum and i love it and cole is kewl!" and leave it at that. I like conversation lol), and I'm even more frightened of discovering spoilers. I was at work, and a customer told me what happens in the end of L.A. Noire, so I've lost motivation to keep playing.
Aside from L.A. Noire... games are expensive. The next games I really want is Skyrim, Tomb Raider and Uncharted 3, and those are so far away, they're barely worth talking about right now. Still deciding on the new Final Fantasy games that are coming out - I didn't really love the last one as much as I've loved VII, VIII, and XII. But yeah...
I could try and make some threads. I'm in a good position to talk about games 24/7 lol.
