    Sunburn.

My boyfriend has come to stay at my house whilst his house is having work done to it. During this time, we're doing a lot more together. We're busy constantly, and this is the first time in about in a week that I've had a moment to check the web. That's fine with me, but yesterday we went out together to a fare... and I got sunburnt.

I'm pretty annoyed with myself for not keeping myself topped up on suncream. This is the second time in my life that I've been sunburnt and I feel really sick and hot all of the time. We stayed indoors today and probably will for the next few days. Hopefully I'll feel less sick soon.

Have any of you been sunburnt this year? If so, where?

I've got it on my chest and nose... My nose looks like a strawberry!

I feel so lucky when poeple complain about sunburns cos I have NEVER in my life had a burn and I don't even use suncream, I just go straight from looking pale to having a nice tan.
Matt had sunburn the other week, it was only across the top of his head so he looked like a bit of a muppet, it wasn't very bad just a bit sore.
I do get very paranoid about Maria getting a burn tho, she has pale skin and very fair hair and apparently people like that burn more easily, I have to smoother he rin cream, takes ages to rub in I use so much.

I get burned on a regular basis. I'm usually moderately pale, so the first time I'm out in the sun for the warmer months, I turn a nice shade of red. It usually turns into a nice tan though.

This year though is really different; I haven't burned once, and I've been spending a good amount of time out in the sun. I'm getting a great tan as well, which really pleases me.

Winterborn; Yeah -- my boyfriend is really pale and he uses so much cream that he could use a whole tub in about a week! Just keep smothering Maria in suncream -- it's been proven lately that Asda suncream is actually as effective at Boots suncream. I have no idea how true that is, but I might test it out and give results... Boots suncream costs a freaking fortune.

I go really dark brown when I'm sunburnt. I'm from Eastern Europe orginally, so my skin colour is like a very light coffee-golden colour. My boyfriend is half German, with very pale skin and goes bright pink -- you should see his ears!

Pete; you're pretty lucky. Most of my male friends just go lobster-red... and then pink. I feel bad for them, but it's pretty funny sometimes. My dad is a big bald bloke, covered in tattoos. His head and neck are all sunburnt. He's completely red all over -- I'm going to use this time as an excuse to call him The Lobster.

My skin burns. My nose especially because I wear long-sleeves even in summer. So I already know what your nose must look like! =D

I don't sunburn much anymore - I stay out of the sun. When we went Malta YEARS ago, me and my brother got really badly burnt. Him more than me - the skin on his back was... eww... coming off. My mum felt horrible, as if she was a really bad parent, but really she did what she could - she was making sure we were smuthered in protective lotions. Hehe... but we played in the water loads, so it probably washed off. =S

    I hope you're feeling better soon! =)

I managed to get sunburn a few weeks ago. In April, in the northernmost city in the UK. I was outside on a relatively sunny day - not warm enough to go without my winter coat still on - sitting around on some grass having girlie wine to celebrate the end of the semester. I reclined for a while, and afterwards went for some food with my boyfriend and friends. It was then that they asked me why my face and chest were so red. The next day at work I was ridiculed to no end.

I think I am one of the palest people on earth.

I think you should all count yourselves lucky that you have the opportunity to get sun-burned without leaving the country. You ever see VisitScotland adverts, sometimes there is sun, that picture was taken in the Summer of '96, AKA 'The year we had a day without rain'. (Apparently Heather lives in a different Scotland...)

Despite my complaints, I've had really bad sunburn from visiting mainland Europe (my shoulders are still scarred from when I first went abroad). I'm guessing I'm very similar to Chez's dad because I just go red rather than developing the nice mediteranian glow that most of the country try to emulate by using spray-on tan - and ending up looking more like an oompah-loompah than a Spaniard.

Heh. Tell me about it. You know you're Scottish when you feel really, really bad if you don't go outside when it's a sunny day.

You all know the old joke...'What do Scots think of summer? It's their favourite day of the year.'

Getting sunburnt is pretty common occurrence for me sadly... My skin is pretty sensitive ;;.
The most common areas of 'burnage' would have to be... nose... forearms.. chest... and back of the neck.
    The last time I got burnt was... let me see... a month ago when I was outside and unfortunately forgot the suntan lotion!!!!! God did I pay... ;;
And I never tan. I skip straight to lobster red. Am I hawt or what? <3

I never tan either, I always burn....I can get a sunburn from just being outside for an hour since I've got such fair skin...It's just sometimes you completely forget about the sunscreen then next thing you know you're putting aloe vira on to sooth the burn =[...The last time I got burned was two weeks ago I was going berry picking with my grandparents and forgot to put it on...It's usually my nose, cheeks and back of my neck that get it but never the front XD

I got sunburned quite harshly on my head (man taking a shower was PAINFUL). I've never been much in favor of hats, but I keep forgetting that since I have less hair covering my head, that I'm very vulnerable to the sun. Even when I was out and about for 20 minutes, I still got "toasted" pretty good.

Luckily, I don't get sunburnt. I may go slightly red for an hour or two of being in the sun, but I'll eventually end up tanning. But only slightly, I can never get a nice tan. Just a slight glow that wears off after a couple of days. Then again, it is pretty hard to get a tan in Wales. The sun's never out for long =/.

I can rememer getting sunburnt on holiday when I was about seven or eight years old, though. My nose looked like the yolk of a fried egg.

I got burnt by the sun a few years ago. I got it on my face, arms, and legs, because I was too busy and forgot to apply sunblock before stepping outside. Now I always remember to apply sunblock, but I forget to eat. Although, I've been burnt nearly twenty other times in my life, so I'm sure it'll eventually happen again. I don't mind it though. After the burn is gone, the skin begins to peel, and I've always liked that part. Put up with the pain for a few days, and you get the joy of peeling your skin off. There's nothing better in the world.

UE; yeah... You need to be especially careful in different countries. My boyfriend went to Spain when he was younger and he had second degree burns all over his stomach and back. He was rushed to hospital where they burst all the scabs, peeled off all the skin around and poured iodine onto the burns. Strangely, he doesn't have any really noticable scars, but his family were so worried. They told me that he apparently collapsed in the bathroom with the door locked and couldn't get to him until they burst through the door!

Cain; you need to be incredibly careful, especially when you burn your head... My dad has had sunburn loads of times in his life and he's developed sunspots on his head. He went to the doctors where they treated him, but they told him that had he avoided seeing a doctor, he might've had skin cancer in a few years. That's why being burnt really scares me.

Egan Spindlerlolzzzz; I think I would have to agree that in some respects, peeling the skin can be satisfying. It just comes off so easily. My half sister was always getting sunburnt and she used to sit there and ask me to peel the skin off for her.

I took this short test at a health exhibit once, and it said that it takes me about half an hour to burn. But that's a lie!

I've been in direct sunlight for two hours once, but I never got sunburnt! In fact, I never have!

I'm pretty tanned so I don't get burned easily, but on holidays in France or Eastern Europe (Croatia, Slovenia,...) I have to use suncream sometimes.

The weather hasn't been that good in Belgium, but my GF did burn herself.
She's kind of pale, and coming from the winter...
Now she's hoping for her red-ish skin to change to brown ^_^ (Which it usually does, this is her way of tanning.)

I remember I burned my back at sea over here even though I used suncream It was one hit summer around '98-'99. My brother, who has a pale skin, really burned himself much worse than I did. My mom had to put bandages on his back every day, twice a day or so. He really suffered back then and we were surprised he didn't keep any scars to the incident.

But yeah, sun has hit the earth since this week (even though it has been raining big cats and huge dogs for the past 2 days, and storming like hell, but I guess those storms are part of summer, right?). I haven't seen much sunlight yet, cause I have been, errr, should be studying (°_°").

So no, I have not been burned by the sun.

I've had it all over aside from where my bathing suit is. I'm fairly pale so I burn easily. The worst I ever burnt was last summer I layed in the sun and covered myself but swimming a bit wore some of it off and my right shoulder got torched. I've gotten sunburns before so it wasn't anything too new. But the skin instead of being red or dark turned into like scaley skin, say from a snake or lizard. Then after a day or 2 of that it blistered up and was uber sensative. Then it finally burst and the red skin which bled a little bit occured too. Needless to say sleeping on the left side a must. Charming story though.

Thus far the only day i've spent prolonged time in the sun was going to the zoo the other day with the girl I'm currently dating.

My nose, forehead, neck, and upper side of my forearms burned, though my forehead got the worst of it.

I've had a few really terrible burns in the past... my back got it so bad one year it blistered, and when it healed and began peeling I could peel 4-5 inch sheets off at a time.

My skin's always been pretty damned pale. But, I've finally been getting some sun for the past two weeks and my legs are starting to tan up(a little). I have burns on my forearms and legs. I think the worst burns you can get are on your face and behind your knees. I hate having those godawful headaches and not being able to sleep cause there's no comfortable position to put my legs.

    Inorite?

    I am extremely pale.
    Therefore I burn easily.
Last time was when i went to visit my Dad in Florida (THE SUN! IT BURNS!) in April and we went to a block party. Was very boring. Anyway, I was out in the sun for maybe a half-hour and my shoulders completely burned, along with a bit of my nose. I guess a tank-top to was a bad choice. It wasn't that bad until I got up the next day and it started hurting like hell. My sister tells me I should have taken a shower right when I got home, apparently it helps. Would have been nice if she had told me earlier.
She tells me she learned from experience.

Short-term solutions: Put ice on it. It seriously works.
Or go stand in the rain. Which is possibly more fun.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. Although I think I misworded something in my post above that might've given off the wrong impression. I've only recently decided to go semi-bald, and because of that I'm just not used to wearing hats.

Believe me, I'm very reluctant to go out to places like the beach, mostly because I was diagnosed with Vitiligo about a decade ago (though it's very mild, and simply on my face) and the doctors told me I have a slightly higher chance of getting skin cancer than normal people.

Oh I so have been sunburnt before, many times but the worst time was when I was 11 or 12. We went to a water park for the end of year break up and it was great fun. I did put sunscreen on and what not but obviously didn't do it often enough because the next day I was red as a beetroot. xD I was the worst burnt in the class which was pretty bad. It was both of my shoulders and my neck, it hurt like a bitch too. I had to keep putting aloe vera on it, it was bad. After a week or so it started peeling and yuk. I was glad when it was gone. I haven't been burnt that bad since, thank God. I'm pale so I would get sunburnt rather easily.

Yeah I got sunburned this year, I was in El Paso, Texas for four days before heading to Iraq where I'm at now for a whole year. I got burned on my arms and it wasn't a great idea to get my first tatoo a day later where my sunburn was, well you live and learn.

My first sunburn of the year was about a month ago. I forgot to put on sunblock before going to the beach. I got cooked all over my back, arms and legs. Oi it sucks! I'm still pasty white on my chest and stomach (but my arms and legs look great!) but I am going to change that soon and get rid of this farmer's tan!

Myself, I am as pale as a ghost. I never go out in the sun unless I am forced to.
    Which isn't very often.
But when I do go out, I get burned rather fast. I was out for 10 minutes one day and I was bright red in a few hours.
Although good thing about me is that after I peel I go tan for about 3 months.
But I've probably gotten burned 3 times in the past 5 years.

But no I cannot say I have gotten burned at all this year. And I'm happy for it.
