    Staying Awake at Work

Here's a question, how do you stay awake at work/school?

I happen to be pretty fortunate to have a desk in the corner of the office. I can surf the net without people knowing what I'm actually doing. That being said, I've also set my browser settings to erase everything I've done when I close them, including everything that might pile up in the temp file on this computer. It's a shared computer so you learn how do trace your steps and erase everything pretty quick. Especially when you're bored out of your mind and afraid of getting found out at work . That being said, I'm usually on here either lurking or saying something useless trying to keep myself from falling asleep.

Which brings up the question, how do you people stay awake? I don't want answers like loads and loads of coffee. Those tend to wear off pretty quick. For me, it's music (When I'm not on here or other forums) I get a nice beat going and it keeps my satisfied.

    Portable game consoles and magazines.
I'd probably fall asleep at work some shifts without them.
I guess it's as I only start feeling tired when I lack a goal or have
    been awake several nights straight...

I have to stand constantly while I work, so it's pretty hard for me to fall asleep. I also happen to have work to do, so I do that.

I'm busy from the moment I get into the office to the point where I leave at the end of the day. I'm the senior (and only, atm) administrator in my entire building so I constantly have a never ending stream of work to do. I don't work Fridays so you can imagine my distress when I get back to the office on Monday to find fourteen new boxes worth of filing for staff, filing for clientele, shredding, expense reports and data inputting.
Not to mention I also take care of the IT suite which means keeping the system updated, maintaining the network and removing viruses and worms that the less useful people tend to rack up.

That doesn't happen. Especially when I need to wake up at 3am and my neighbor has the most annoying kid in the world that cries nonstop between 10pm and 3am. Preventing me from sleeping at all. No joke.

I usually work while.... at work. :S

Though, some jobs require me to get up and walk around a bit... excessive trips to the bathroom for face splashing with water.

    Re: Staying Awake at Work

I have heard that eating apples can help a person stay awake better than coffee can. in fact, in the "Random Pieces of Information" thread here on TFF, someone posted that "Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning." I expect that it can hold up to whenever you are feeling sleepy no matter what part of the day it is.

    Re: Staying Awake at Work

Like most other people, I usually do my work to keep myself awake while at work .

I don't really ever get to have downtime or breaks for what I do, so time goes by fast, and I don't really even notice whether I'm tired or not until I get home.

Like most people would get fired if they were caught sleeping on the job, but if I did that I could get sued by the state and all other kinds of fun stuff , don't want that!

Let's go into the "archives" in "Washington D.C." and find out how people "masturbated" in the "roaring 20's."

    Re: Staying Awake at Work

I drive a truck for a living right now. Falling asleep would only be acceptable if I were a woman with kids in the car

Truth be told, I have whacked it in the truck, when I found out that one of my exes was bi, and was texting me with past exploits. Not gonna lie, it was a thrill to rub one out on the LIE.

    Re: Staying Awake at Work

I am on my feet at work all day, so it is not too hard to stay awake. Yesterday was hard, though; our restaurant has windows all around the dining area, and the sun is always shining in somewhere, so it gets really hot, and the air conditioning there NEVER works. (it works where it matters, though; in the staffroom! ) On top of that I had a raging sore throat and almost lost my voice by the end of my shift. So I had to keep going round back to have a quick drink of (slightly orange-flavoured!) water.

EDIT: Oh, also, rumour has it that last year a couple of my colleagues, found an interesting way to keep awake on the shift! I heard they did... stuff... in the stockroom!

They're moving away soon so I won't bother. I have the patience for that at least. Plus I'm moving back to my house up north soon too. In about a week or so. I've put up with it for 2 months, I can put up with it for another week.

I do a lot of paperwork based things at work. Lots of things involving math skills, and other things that need computer based skills. Which is why I find myself on here a lot of the time. It depends on how busy the day is. The airline business is weird like that. One day there might be a shi* load of stuff to do, the next day there's absolutely nothing. As long as I get paid, that's all that matters.
