Shit. This thread. GUIZE. Here: [Favourite song] + [THIS] = relax.

As for my opinion on sobriety. Cool. Just don't go thinking you're high and mighty.

I drink occasionally. Not often, though I usually get drunk when I do. I smoke weed when my best friend gets it. It doesn't really do much, and I can't see myself doing anything stronger, though he has stated he would try heroin.

Also, @Dan: some people enjoy the taste of alcohol. Many, many people. Having a small number of beers (1-3, or a few more, depending on your tolerance), is not dependence. It's consequence-free enjoyment. Replace beer/wine with Coke and nothing changes.

Whats wrong with a little alchohol? Personally it helps me come out of my shell at social occasions. As long as I am not falling over and regurgitating over everyone else its cool.

Not that there arent sheep who will drink themselves stupid because of a little peer pressure, which is frankly speaking a little bit pathetic. But drank in adequate portions alchohol is socially beneficial.

I currently hold the saying 'Live and let live' in high regard.
In the real world, most I know are drinkers, smokers, several are recreational drug users and we couldn't be happier. Online I often seem to get paid out by those mobs of straight edge net kids. Oooh, it might eventually kill me or something, big freakin' deal, to some it's a small price to pay for the benefits of various substances. Even tobacco does some things right - I can be half asleep on a job, smoke a cigar and suddenly I'm more awake then if I slept for half a day.

Really, Che nailed this bugger square in the face. If you're getting shitty about others' personal choices it's you with the problem, not them.

Here's the scenario as to why its dumb. "Jeez I'm feeling bad today, better suck on a poison stick (cigarette), that most definitely ends up hurting me wayyyy more then the initial stress relief I have convinced myself It gives because of the nicotine". I know the go to argument for idiots is that Indians and stuff used tobacco but that stuff was way different (and still stupid). Beer and many other drugs are basically the same thing. Denial seems to be the way that addicts and simpletons (rather then a more flame-inviting accurate word) deal with substance abuse.

The OP question asked opinions so when you saw a differing one you had to blow it way out of proportion just because you handle things differently (and arguably the wrong way given your abrasive stance)
Drug: definition 2c is about as simple as I can put it. Endorphins released by the brain raise the thresh hold on pain. Therefor, when laughing you can improve both your mood and your health. Hence, you'd be doing something to change your mood intentionally. The same as going out and having a beer to improve your mood.

Now, here you are with the shoe on the other foot. You claim people will defend their abuses any way they can, while you come with a half structured argument backing your buddy Angel. If he was thinking about tobacco he could have put that or listed it later when he replied to me. He doesn't need you holding his hand while he posts, so, 'big brother', let him do his thing.

What right do you have to decide if someone is stupid / idiot / simpleton for deciding to have a drink or take in a substance? You do know alcoholism is genetic, ya? They may not actually have a choice... they actually require the drink. In fact, since we're all so stupid for 'hiding behind our denial', maybe you should look into it more... I used wikipedia as it's just easier to follow along for us 'simpletons' (to avoid a more flame-inviting word).

Lastly, I didn't blow anything out of proportion. I disagreed with him and told him how his logic he posted could be taken to ambiguously to relate to many different forms of mind altering scenarios. If anyone was abrasive, it'd have been his first reply to me and your replies. My reply to that was simple fact stating... and didn't even hint on trolling until the picture and the comments after (which were simply to lighten up the post in general... jokes are always a good time).

So... as I stated to Angel already... if you're going to try insulting people, at least get it right.

I hope this clears some things up.
    THIS.

I'm gonna grab myself a beer.

Drinking isn't a problem unless it's to a point of excess, where you really begin to adversely affect yourself and others. If you have 10 beers and pass out in your bed, without causing an incident or hurting anyone, who cares? That's your choice.

Things only become a problem when you start to become reckless or start to put yourself or others at risk.

If you don't want to do any drinking or drugs, then don't; that's your choice. It's only a problem when people get on their soapboxes and tell people how to live their lives.

Personally, I drink, and that's probably the worst of my vices, because sometimes I just choose not to stop until my body just tells me to. Is it smart? Absolutely not, but I don't do it often, and when I do it, I make sure I'm not going to be leaving my house. I refuse to put myself out there to be society's problem.

There are other times though, when I'll have a few at a bar, but I try to keep it under control and not get too ridiculous.

The two biggest issues I have though, are when people instantly think that if you drink socially, that's like a code word for an alcoholic, and that if you have more than 2 drinks in a day, you're depressed. Maybe some people just like the taste of beer.

Jesus Christ, again you take it off track by using one of many definitions to suit your own needs. Next time some cracked out moron comes up and asks me to sell him some drugs I'll say "Laugh it up friend, there's some endorphins, please give me $50 because that's surely what you mean right?" I'm sure he won't be pissed at all because by some definitions endorphins is a drug but certainly not in the context there and not in the context of the original question. Again you take things out of context only to stir up trouble. If the question involved the context of drugs you drone on about then its an impossibility for anyone to stay away from "drugs" unlike beer, cigarettes, hallucinogens (external from ones body, whoa almost missed that) etc people can just say no and walk away from. I'm sure you'll stick to your alcoholic definitions (grats on taking one health class or listened to a PSA or something) but again the original question involved CHOOSING to use drugs. So to make myself clear again, stay in context and try not to blow up anyones OPINION just because they don't choose to drink like you.

If you are going to add to the conversation don't take things out of context to twist it for your own needs (Ie to discredit someones off-hand opinion or a shitty stupid joke) with useless semantics or maybe this is all just a big attempt to derail this thread with trolling remarks...

Maybe I should knock out some brain cells with a drink to forget this insane trolling. (uh-oh can I say that without posting 8 papers here proving that? because apparently this is some research site where people can't have opinions without having a law degree to back up claims and experiences)

    Congrats trolling successful, I'm out.

Wow. I think everyone needs to lighten up.

midgetbob wasn't even trolling. If defending your opinion is trolling, then everyone has trolled in this thread. Disagreeing isn't a crime, and it seemed with Angel, if you disagreed with him, you were signing a death warrant (literally).

Sure, drugs and alcohol are bad for you. Alcohol only if you abuse it, really - drugs are just bad (in my opinion). But they both have positive effects. Regardless on whether it's good or bad for you, it's everyone's decision if they wish to have a few drinks or smoke or whatever. Life is too short to worry about having a pint more than you're accustomed to, in case it ****s your liver up.

That said, I don't encourage strong drinkers to go out there and empty their wallets on getting wasted every night; just enjoy yourself, and do it responsibly. Splurge out now and then on a bigger night, but responsible is cool, yo.
