Report: Mascot fired after silly string altercation with fan

Justice has been served in Southern Florida.

According to 10 News in Tampa, the Tampa Bay Lightning have fired the woman who had been playing the team's mascot, "Thunder Bug." The decision comes just a week after the mascot had an altercation with a Boston Bruins fan.

Thunder Bug irked a B's fan at the Tampa Bay Times Forum when she sprayed the fan with silly string. This prompted the Bruins fan to get out his seat and charge after the mascot. According to the report, team officials spoke with the fan on the concourse following the incident before allowing him to return to his seat.

The Lightning told 10 News that the incident did play into the decision, but it wasn't the sole reason for the employee's dismissal.

That guy was very angry. Silly string is serious business, apparently. Looks like he's one of those people who acts on emotion, or instinct, to me. Then he turned around and yelled at the crowd as he left, because he's a bad ass like that.

If this were the one incident that got that mascot fired, I'd be kinda like "WTF?" But apparently it was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. I wonder what else she did. Seems like mascots do a lot of zany stuff though. U of Oregon's mascot has been kicked out of games for fighting other mascots. Wonder if he got fired. Also, I seem to remember some hockey mascot or another that was infamous for poor behavior. Them mascots are tricky. Can't turn your back on 'em. Might shoot silly string at you. When that happens, you gotta show 'em who's boss! Anyhoo...

I guess she's a huge fan of her team and well, either doesn't like her team being bashed or more probably just like's to mess with random fans. Either way, chubby's reaction was bit harsh in my opinion.

Can't say I've seen many outbreaks by mascots, mostly because there are no mascots in football (soccer), not here anyway, though fans make sure we see ****ed up things often enough.
