I prefer the prior. The latter is spam.
That was fun, wasn't it?
So to make this a decent topic:
Do you like vivid discussions on TFF in which people try to make an actual point in their post?
Or do you prefer the relaxed, mellow type of thread where everyone just posts something, without paying much attention to other posts?

I prefer the prior. The latter is spam.
same, i prefer something with an actual point to it or it just descends into meaningless drivle. Or as mistress victoria put it, spam.

I only like threads that don't offend me. If there is something in a thread that offends me, it makes me upset, and I feel bitter towards whoever posted it for a week or two, and remember what they said years later with disgust, because I remember EVERYTHING anyone ever says. (Or at least what I feel like remembering. And I'm pretty fickle, so you'd better be careful!)
Threads that serve for a discussion are generally more interesting, but other threads where people just make one post on the matter have a purpose too. That way, I can find out how someone feels about whatever the hell it is we're talking about. And besides, some people don't read other posts in a thread anyway, even if the thread is some kind of debate. And I think I was going to say something else, but I lost my train of thought. Anyhoo...
Wuv, Yer Mom
I prefer it when someone has read other posts before posting their own thoughts. It can sometimes give their post more integrity and depth, and I like that - especially in newer members. It gives hope that there's a chance in hell of them fitting in and sticking around for longer. I think it's nice when I see someone adding to someone else's thoughts too, or showing a different thought that starts a friendly debate.
I really hate it when someone comes out of nowhere to give their opinion without fully reading at least a couple of posts. I also hate it when someone does read someone's post and they give their opinion in a manner which leaves the original poster too scared to reply again (if they even bother to come back and read the thread).
It'll happen to me now, just watch...
I like a nice mixture of the two.
Sometimes, it's fun to just post in a topic to "shoot the shit" with people. I've started quite a few threads that pretty much just ask what you like or don't like about something, and for me, I think it's cool to read up on everyone's responses.
I also like reading topics that do have a bit more discussion value, but those can also lead to some pretty heated discussions. Not that it's bad, but when people get a little too opinionated over something, it gets not as fun for me. *shrugs*
So, I suppose, I'm down for whatever, as long as people are having fun.

I am the same as Dodie. Every once in a while I enjoy a thread that is pretty much bullshit. Where people just talk, bullshit with each other. But I also enjoy threads where opinions are told. Pretty much I like all threads.
Why can't both coexist? Trying to limit yourself to one is just that...a limit. Why censor a potential topic? We're basically self moderated at TFF, everyone knows the rules, and if not someone in control can always step in.
If every post were #2, I'd get tired of it. If every post was #1 though I'd not be having as much fun as if both were going on simultaneously.
You totally forgot to mention the most common type of TFF thread: deliberate and purposeless controversy.
That's my favourite type of thread. It's not the former because it has no actual point, other than to stir the pot, and it's not the latter because no one is relaxed as they bicker mindlessly about topic X because some yahoo either felt like beating a dead horse or killed a brand new one in front of everyone.
6 years well spent.
Until now!
I forgot to account for delusion.
Until now!
This may be controversial, but wouldnt you rather have an active message board of disruptive topics just trying to get a rise outta people (assuming its not super offensive) than a non-active board where no one posts anything because they dont want to be seen as a shit disturber? Until of course awards or some common annual RP's arise??
I'd rather controversy...and I reckon so would Fuzz...because controversy sells, just like sex, and since we only have one legitimate sexy lady on these boards, we have to depend on controversy...
c'mon man!!

I like both... Too much "serious business thread is serious business" and then everyone gets bored. Too much "lulz, look at this picture!" and everyone just gets annoyed. Like everything in life, all in moderation.

I think you need both. It really gives you the best of both worlds. Too much "serious business" and bullshit drama, and it brings some activity, but a lot of people won't partake. Too much spam, and then it's like Kindergarten.
I feel like people should read everyones posts if it's a more serious conversation though. How are you going to know what's said, and how do you actually converse if everyone is essentially just broadcasting and not listening. On the other hand, for some threads, you don't necessarily have to read every post.
All in all, **** it, post however you'd like!

I don't mind either one, as long as it's offensive in some way. The only reason why people would get offended in the first place is because they take things too seriously. The only reason why people wouldn't get offended is because they aren't taking anything seriously.
So basically a moderation between the two in which everybody gets slightly offended, but not so much that they start whining like a bunch of little faggots. That sentence was slightly offensive.
