I am indifferent to this particular matter.
I don't use toilet paper.
I'll cut to the chase: Do you hang your toilet paper over or under? What influences your decision? Is it an aesthetic choice, or just one that is most convenient?

F*ck if you REPLACE an empty roll with a new roll, you're a f*cking legend. Not place a new roll ON TOP of the old roll still on holder. People at my work do this and it makes me so mad! I've been tempted to put a sign on the back of each door saying, CHANGE THE F*CKING TOILET PAPER YOU LAZY B*TCHES!!!

Since the toilet roll holder fell off the wall a few months after I moved in and I never fixed it or more to the point, bought a new one as the one in question is rusted to all hell, I can't comment. I just keep them stacked under the sink, next to the toilet.
My parents' house has a toilet smaller than the average train toilet, so they have to keep it 'under', lest it get in the way. I changed it as I couldn't get a grip, but I got yelled at. Not really, but they told me why they keep it that way.

In my house we're very lazy so we just stack the roll on top of the holder, even though it works perfectly fine, but once every blue moon my dad will bother to put it on there and I'm pretty sure it goes under.

I stack mine on a vertical holder and use it that way as I can't be bothered drilling a holder onto the wall.

I have to change bogrolls round that have been put on the wrong way, its too mych like hard work trying to grab a piece when its under!
My toilet shoots a jet of water up my bum and then blow dries it for me, so I don't have to use paper. You're all tree killers.
Over. It tears less easily. So you get a full hand of paper and not several broken chunks.
It doesn't matter to me. If you ever go without it for a day or two, and have to use newspaper, you learn to appreciate it however it's looped over the spool.
Newspaper sucks for it btw!

It has to hang over for me. It kind of freaks me out if someone hangs it under, but I don't always change it back. At work, I have a lazy coworker who just puts a new roll on top of the holder... So I always put it back if I see that. I don't war to stick my hand in some tube someone else has stuck their hand in when they e use the toilet. What if it took more than one wipe?
I have to say though, it's more convienient to hang under if you want to fold to get the softer side of the tissue to wipe your tooshie with. Depends if you care or not really, or of you get the really nice rolls.

Lie! I own cats and it still ALWAYS has to be over. We just close the bathroom door. We have one cat that will completely tear apart the tp AND the roll. It's like he thinks it's a monster or something.
Over just seems to make sense sometimes. It's easier to reach. it looks professional in hotels (I sometimes like to add the triangle for fun). I won't change it in public places because it isn't my job to. I don't care. But at home and the place I'm renting, I will change it around.
One observation though. You know those charmin commercials with the one bear who plays video games and needs to use the bathroom and uses the ultra soft? When he is told that he's taking too much, he rolls it back and the roll is "Under" so you can roll it back easier. My opinion, people who put it under take too much. Or are sheep and follow commercials. That's just an observation (Don't shoot me!)
Lastly, UE, you do wash your hands after right? Why would you worry about getting said germs from changing the roll when you're going to wash your hands a few seconds after?

Of course. With hot water and soap, between the fingers and under the nails (I'm just OCD - doesn't mean I get anything under the nails, etc... shuddupgem).
It's just that I've used one or two really shitty (no pun intended) bathrooms in my time. The worst one was on a five hour long drive, and we had to stop off for a toilet and refreshment break. The public toilets were outside and around the back of this petrol station, and they were awful. When you gotta go, you gotta go though. And I'm pretty sure that smudge on the inside of the tube was shit.
So yah... I dislike touching the inside of the tube if there's no holder.
