    question

I asked a girl I like to go to the movies this weekend with me (to see Zombieland). We have been friends for a while. I'm 16, she's 17, and we both go to the same school. She is really hot and I have a crush on her, we are both single. Well, when I asked her to the movies, she said that she can't this weekend, because she is going to her family's farm. We both want to see the movie and we both enjoy being around each other. When I asked her, I said that we could go as just friends. She also said that maybe we could next weekend. Do you think she just made up the weekend story (and that she isn't interested in me at all), or do you think that she was honest and her story is true (I believe her obviously, since we are close friends), but what does it sound like to you?

Could be true, seems innocent enough. When girls lie and make up stuff it's usually some ridiculous thing like they have "a lot of stuff to do this weekend" or something where you end up going..."wait...what?". If she's physically not going to be there, I'd say it's true.

Also, this thread is worthless without pics.

Hmm. I say believe her, because it sounded like she still wants to go since she said that you could possibly go see the movie next weekend. If you say you believe her, then that's good.

As far as her being interested in you, I really can't say. Women can be very fickle, and even if you get along really great there's a chance that she just doesn't like you like that and only wants to be friends with you. However, there is also a chance that she does like you like that is waiting for you to make the first move. I know that sounds really confusing, but stuff like that never makes a whole lot of sense.

Honestly, you are very young and you have a whole life ahead of you. If things don't turn out the way you plan, then don't worry too much about it.

Yes! Don't play the friends game, you'll get stuck as the friend and she'll just love the relationship so much that she won't look at you as anything else. Then you're boned (or actually the opposite!).

    This is very important too.

THIS. This happened to me DOZENS of times. Don't spend your high school years the same way I did. Take this first outing as an opportunity to grow together outside of the school environment. Don't be pushy or make any sort of moves this time, BUT after your non-date, ask her if she'd be interested in going out again, and then through casual conversation (perhaps at school, perhaps the next outing, etc) let her know that you're interested in her, and ask if she'd like to start dating.

What's the worst that can happen? She says no, and it's a little awkward for a couple of days. If that happens, just let her know you still want to be friends, and treasure the friendship you'll end up building. I mean, if nothing else, then things just go back to the way they were before you asked her out.

Sometimes they change their minds, but usually they don't.

For me, with Kat, it took her eight years to finally realize she actually liked me the same way I had once liked her, but by then I was already in another place with another person. /shrug

I'd only be concerned if she didn't have a farm to be on. Specifics are usually a good thing, unless it becomes so specific that it's made up. I'd casually ask how the weekend was, and if she talks about the farm, then it's all good. If she looks at you funny, then you can tell something's not quite right.

The way I see it, if you both like each other, and you're both single, then start taking steps to become more than friends. Going out to a movie is a good idea, but also build a little more, since if you're at a movie, you really can't talk and see if you have any chemistry out of school. You sound like you like this girl way too much to just be her buddy, so step up the flirting a little bit. Like Dodie said, women can be really fickle, so you're gonna need some way of telling if she's interested. If you flirt and she flirts back or gets really touchy-feely, then she def likes you. If she gets a little weirded out, take it a step down.

Like everyone else has been saying, you're young (shit, we all are) and you've still got your whole life ahead of you. If it doesn't work out with this girl, there'll always be another. But just be confident and respectful of what she wants and you'll be fine.

    Firstly... does she feel the same way about you? It's pointless pursuing anything other than a good friendship if she doesn't feel the same way. >>;

I think her excuse is genuine. You did just ask her as a friend, right? If she doesn't like you, and thought you were only asking because of how you feel, she'd have backed out. Friends don't tend to back out unless they really do have something to do.

We have just about everything in common: We love the same movies, same video games, same music (for the most part), same interests, etc.

I understand that, but you've gotta start taking steps to take this to the next level, otherwise you'll be stuck in the friend zone. If you two have so much in common, I might also suspect that she's forcing ideas for dates. She probably knows what you're into, and she's making convo. It's up to you to start planning and start making a move. Nothing too crazy, but you have to show her you have the balls to be her boyfriend and not just the friend that holds her purse while she tries on dresses at the mall.

From what i've read, it seems like she's telling the truth. Besides, If I wanted to make up a story as to why I couldn't hang out, or go to the movies, I definitely wouldn't say I'm visiting my families Farm.

Just please don't try to pull any fast ones on her. I had a horrible experience in a movie theater with a friend, and it was super awkward. Since she's a good friend of yours, Follow Loco's advice, and go step by step. I don't think you have anything to worry if you guys hang out at school all the time.

Did you ask her on a Friday? I'm asking because if it was during the week; the next day did it seem normal or did she seem a little distant from you? that's a good way to know if she is interested or weirded out.

Girls tend get touchy feely when they have a crush on you or like your company too.

I'm thinking about creating a hybrid. A dolphin-monkey. Half dolphin, half monkey. Do you think it's possible?
I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

So wait, you like this girl, and you're asking her out to a movie, one on one, and it's not a date?

I really hate to break it to ya, but that sounds like a date to me. Just because you're not going out, like boyfriend/ girlfriend with this girl doesn't mean that you can't go out on a date with her. Usually I'll go out on a few dates with a girl before we even talk about a relationship.
