My original post ****ed up before I got around to posting it.

In short, I was going to say that the only reason that there are so many individual forums is because back in the day everyone stuck to the mantra of 'a place for everything, and everything in it's place.' I know it's cheezy, but that's what the deal was.

Unfortunately, there never were any set definitions of what was considered what, and so now you wind up having people like Toph consider Wall-E animation and not a movie. The simplest way in all matters should suffice. If it's shown on the big screen, it's a movie. If it's broadcast on TV, then it's a tv show. Lastly, if it's Japanese or "oriental" cartoons, then it's anime. Simple as that. No need to make anything more complicated than it is.

Oh wait, it's the internet, of course there is.

At the same time, this place should be downsizing the number of individual boards. I can understand for a newbie that this place can be a little overwhelming, kind of like going to walmart for the first time, minus that grimey guilty feeling you get for going there. And for ****'s sake, why are there still threads deemed important when they haven't been relevant in years?

Uhm.. Actually.. Wall-E -is- animation. Sure, it's a movie as well. It's an animated movie. So, the question is: Where does it belong? Animation forum or Tv/Movies?

    At this point in time, it doesn't really matter, since TV/Movies and Animation are being merged into Anime + Tv/Film anyway. >_>;

And also, just cause it's on big screen, don't make it a movie. I mean.. welll. Okay. Veering off topic here.

Hm. I suppose you're right, in a sense. When something is out in the big screen, it's considered a movie. But the thing is.. it's both animation AND a movie. I get that. I guess after Wall-E finishes from the big screen, it's just animation. =P

I don't want to have an arguement with you about this new you, because that's your personal choice and I don't want to appear as though I'm pestering you about it because I think we could all really care less about each others' leaf-turning, etc. I'm just saying, expect a little confusion and expect to receive many rolling eyes over the posts depicting the so-called drama. Now, to attempt at making this more about the original subject, I'll quote some other posts.

There -is- no 'new me'. There is no 'new found sense of sarcasm'. And as far as I'm concerned, there was never any 'emo me' either.

Everybody seems to be squaring in on a few posts I've made. I've posted a lot lately and if you look at the posts, I'm just the same as ever. People are currently making an absolute shitstorm out of nothing, and I guess this is just my reaction to it? If anything, a lot of shit's happened to me lately and I'm sick of putting on the shiny-happy-overtly-nice-to-everybody demeanor that I've often posessed.

But I'm just me. Which explains why it's only people who don't know me at all that seem to be going off at me for my sudden 'change of behaviour'. Anybody who actually knows me will know that this is me and I'm not trying to put on some sarcastic new front. And for those who don't know me? They have absolutely no right telling me how to behave or that my behaviour has even changed.

Weeeell, I don't know you, hence why it seems like you've changed. Duh. Everybody who doesn't know you that well has noticed about this new thing, you said it yourself. Well, that's most of tff, isn't it? That's the point I was trying to make.

They have absolutely no right telling me how to behave or that my behaviour has even changed.
Oh God, either you can't read, or you can and you just didn't pay attention.

So okay, have we got that out of the way now? I'm not telling you how to act because I really don't care enough to go through the process, so please get over it, I'm really not that bothered. I only become bothered when it holds potential of effecting other members. Especially newer ones.

Now, can we move on from this? If you want to talk at me some more, do it in my profile.

I, II, III, IV and V should all be in the same forum. VI, VII, VIII, IX and the other (excluding the other minor titles) should all be in the same category as each other, imo. On the other hand, I may be being bias about that, since I'm not keen on earlier titles... or VII... or X... or anything that followed.

Wow, what am I doing here? OMG?!

I personally think that having that many titles in a single sub forum would be to much there would be atleast 6 stickied threads at the top of each one before you actually hit thread that people just posted into. Example the help threads, if it was to go this route would the help threads be combined down into 1 thread? If so I could see some of the questions not being awnsered or skipped all together if more then one person post into the thread asking questions.

I could see benificial the group them in twos, I and II / III and IV / V and IV and so on. That way the forum is smaller but they are still effective. IMO if you grouped VI through X or higher it would be difficult to keep up with for the memebers and I imagine it would make life hell on the selected moderator, unless there are multi-mods per section.

Actually, that's very true. And my idea beats the point of a Final Fantasy forum. I think it should be in threes instead of twos, though, and that's not just me being awkward.

On the other hand, if we included all the later titles into same categories, members, specifically newer ones might get confused and post something about FFIX into an FFVIII thread.

In which, maybe the FF forums should be left alone... I'm not sure, I'm just thinking over the cons.

Personally I don't think we have to get rid of or merge any forums, but if we do, I would suggest getting rid of Writer's Corner and the TFF Network. Writer's Corner is basically dead and is posted in maybe once or twice a month. I think the reviews on the actual site for FF games are good enough. Also the TFF Network is pretty much dead as well. The only one that I can see that is still going is Final Fantasy Tears and it isn't doing very well.

I still really don't see any problems with the forum. This is the best final fantasy forum I've seen and I don't think we should mess up a good thing. The only problem is that some of the members are leaving, but it seems like most of them are leaving because of some other members on the forum or for personal reasons. I don't think that we have to change the forum just because some people are leaving. Many people are still here and this is still a great forum. Anyway most of the people who left said that they will probably be back so there really isn't much to worry about.

true, but isn't that why the minimize button is offered to all members in the headers for the section, if you don't want to see the above mentioned just close down that section of the window.

Just to make it clear I am not directing this comments twards you Squall, just throwing out ideas.

This I have to comepletely agree with, there is nothing wrong with the structure of the forum at all. I can see merging some of the less active areas together that have simular basis but even then thats not overly nesassary, IMO this forum is very user friendly. There are people unhappy with some of the turns of events, but I really dont think the forum needs remodeling. The only thing forum wise that needs to happen is a house cleaning of dead posts which BTW is already in process.

Okay, like I have been reading all these posts about people wanting this merged with that and that getting kicked to the archives and this with their coffee for this morning and all, and, don't get me wrong, I'm glad this stuff is getting addressed and stuff... The thing is, is this what is making everyone really angry and making people rage-quit TFF? Or did everyone get their stuff resolved on the semi-surge of people quitting? No offense, but that was what I was mostly concerned with as of right now, but if it's already taken care off, then no skin off my back I guess. Just personally checking the status quo of it all.

Yeah, that stuff has mostly been resolved. It's a mix of something that was resolved and real life stuff. So I wouldn't worry about it. They'll be back.

So I thought I would start a thread where those who are suffering a grievance with the forum could vent their feelings, and therefore if something appears popular then perhaps the staff may take notice and address the issue. I just hope this may help stop the numbers of members, including the long-term folks from deciding to make like a tree.

    tl;dr

No disrespect but some people are moving onto more important things in life. And that's not to another forums.

Honestly, I have completely forgotten about TFF until I received the email I get for when I don't make a post for a whole month. So unless that thing stop working, I'll see you guys in another month, lol.

By the way, can I get a list of all the old members who are still active but have changed their names along with their old names? So many unfamiliar names.

Can you not IP ban that address? Or is he hitting multiple computers to show us that he is a "hacker" haha. This individual reminds me alot of JC, might want to cross reference the IP addresses to see if it is.

As I read through this thread, I noticed that the topic died and that all the posts became arguments. I'm not sure what exactly has been resolved or done.

As for my problem: only the occasional spats around here, but they can't be helped.

The new members that stick around past the tiny bit of poking from older members are the only ones we need. They learn soon enough, and become familiar faces that I usually like to see. Most new member join after they find the site, make a welcome thread, post ten times (get poked at for their spammy posts), get into trouble, then leave and never return.

Mods are fine. They enforce the rules fairly enough. And all members that are comfortable with the place stray a little out of the lines every now and then. It's not favoritism or power abuse. It's just knowing how far to go before going too far.

Yeah I think over the last few weeks we (memebers and mods) have all really been working together to try and stop some of that (refering to the pokes), there are multiple things in works to help try to keep some of the newer memebers here, and also to keep the older members happy and content. I remember that I took a few pokes that where not so fun but I didn't take any of it personally, I just considered it a right of passage haha.

DragonHeart has started the YSB contest, there is an adoption program that is in works/ debate, and the forum itself looks like it might have a total facelift (for the better). I would say that there really hasn't been any big issues here that havent already been mentioned / resolved here or in other threads and the issues that have been brought up haven't been big perse but just something we need to work on as a community as a whole.

Can I just say... well it may sound a bit pointless but my opinion has changed about this. I thought it might be a troublecausing thread, arguments left right and centre. I worried over nothing. I'm glad this is the case and I'm glad it's perhaps helping things around here. It's provided a forum to get thoughts across so.. well it's good.

    Nice to see. That's all.

I'm irked that I go into the anime forum and the entire first half of the page is stickied threads about some particular mod's favorite animes so the threads MUST BE STICKED SO NO ONE FORGETS ABOUT THEMZ.

    Stickies piss me off. Seriously.

http://thefinalfantasy.net/forums/an...gonball-z.html for example, last post was on 5/11 of this year. Who fskin cares if it used to be a club, it's a dead thread about a piece of shit anime that I'm forced to see every time I enter that forum.

The bleach thread was last posted in last month, the Fruit's Basket thread was lasted posted in in March. Naruto is the most popular anime currently in America, so that means it has to have it's own stickied thread?

I demand stickies in GC for Baseball, then. And football when the season starts. I also want a World of Warcraft sticky in General Gaming since it's the most popular video game in the world right now.

See where I'm going with this?

Well, you all know me. I'm usually the laid back, amicable guy with no complaints about this place... but I do have a minor issue. As much as I love it, I think the word games forum has run its course. It draws too much attention away from gen chat and the other forums. What's the problem with making friends and enemies through meaningful conversation? It seems like every new bond here is created via equally nonsensical banter in three word snippets.

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?

I have to agree with Musa's Word Games comment. It's what Alisyn was saying in that 'new spam thread' thread, in word games.

Lately everyone who welcomes a new member says "Zomg post in word games, make friends there!!!"

As opposed to, you know... the actual Final Fantasy community part of this forum, or everywhere else BUT word games.

Edit: I also took down those anime thread stickies. I looked at the dates and they haven't been posted in quite some time as Sean said, so their stickiness wore out its usefulness.

I agree with that, BUT they are pretty cool to have. Maybe a good clear out over there should happen. Keep the games that seem most popular, and maybe have a few rules about posting a new game? Most of the stuff over there aren't games, and some not even productive games.

AND its the same in many other forums. Some topics haven't been written in in years, and when people bring them back, they just get closed. So, what I'm saying is, dump them in The Cleft Dimension or whatever the place is called, and people wanna read them, they can go there, and don;t have to post. Simple.

Oh, I'm sure I saw a thread in the FF forum part asking about the colour of a characters hair... -_- I mean, come on!

    Ha... I'm guilty...

Another thing: I take everything back against the mods. The mods are ok, and I was being such a kid with a grudge when I first joined here. For any mod who I may have insulted at any point in any thread, I'm sorry. I mean it. BUT, sometimes you guys are a tad too hard with the warning. Don't deny it, because some of you admitted it on another page here. But you guys are cool.

Maybe some people are like me? Have these issues which are stupid, and take them out in stupid ways? Meh, I don't know, just an idea.

MY own experiences tell me that too many people don't WANT to make friends in a normal way. Take the Alcohol thread in the General Chat forum for instance.
I read the previous posts and thought "well this is nice, maybe a thread like this will attract some people (who would never visit the Intellectual Discussion forum or who are afraid to post in there) to join in and discuss about this topic.
I posted a, in my opinion, rather personal and sophisticated post.

Later that day, I went to check out how the thread had evolved and I was genuinely DISSAPOINTED that some members had posted 2 line posts saying either "alcohol rocks" or "alcohol is bad, BAAAD!".

I know I can't expect the threads to turn out the same way as they do in the Intellectual Discussion forum, but to me it seems that there is some lack of interest towards building up some credibility with your posts in order to gain some respect from the older members.

Is it because we have so many members and every new member feels insignificant?
Is it because most of the (new) members (though I admit to being guilty of this too) only (dare to ???) hang around at the FUNFUNFUN Word Games forum?

    *sigh*

I have to agree here. The post content on these forums is completely deplorable. Out of the many times I've left, quite a few times have been because I was so disheartened with the lack of responses that reciprocate the same thought, personality, grammar, and spelling that I put into my post.

I do think the words games could be partly to blame for this. However, I only have guesses as to the other components to this problem... peer pressure induced stupidity, "education", fluoridated resources, bad television, whatever.

In this situation, I've completely given up hope of ever being able to post in Intellectual Discussion again. (Oh science, how hate the initials I and D together.) I used to IGNORE General Chat and post almost exclusively in Intellectual Discussion when I first joined. I don't think I've been able to post in there much since, due to the post content decay. I see Intellectual Discussion today to be equivalent in content to the General Chat of years ago. I cringe at the responses in those threads and quickly retreat.

At this point, I'm just starting to sound like an old crank, so I'll offer a suggestion. All of the kiddies want their spammy spamalicious Word Games forums (and other such things). All of us old cranks want them to stop the word games and post somewhere else in the forums. So, why not make it that a person can only post so many times a day in Word Games? We could make it into some kind of "privilege" you get in exchange for posting where the posts actually count. There, of course, would have to be a limit to prevent people from spamming up the forums for word game points.

It could work. That's up to everyone else, though.

I think that word games should be abolished, and just become a 'humour' forum. For jokes threads, funny YouTube clips, rara.

But I think, to be honest that would promote spam in other areas. I'd say abolish the word games and have a restricted Spam Thread. At least people could have actual conversation, instead of creating useless Gen. Chat threads about nothing, or desperately trying to chat using three words per post. People complain about the old spam thread, but it doesn't compare to new "Three word Posts."

Agreed. Some of the word games posts are rather pointless and serve to do nothing other than waste space.

I find it kind of funny that some of you are so hypocritical, you are saying "abolish word games" and/or "it's a problem" when you yourselves post there. But as for removing word games I have to disagree this site would loose alot of traffic if it was removed. Some members like myself, who have made intelectual post and posts with content, still go there to kill a few minutes at work or what not. IF at all, I agree with sarah when saying that a limit could be set to how many times a day a member could be able to post into that area. Or hell even give rewards for posting outside that area.

example: If you have a post count of 100 < 1 you can only post there 10 times, 300 < 101 you can post there 20 times a day yadda yadda I think you can get the picture.

But then again I don't think OceanEyes wants to try and keep up with post count VS how many times a day someone posts into WG/H and I think a hack would inevatably take to long to write.

The benifit to this section is that it does give the newer members who might be a little timid to post super long posts in the other forums a chance to come and have a little fun, and get to know a few familiar faces. Take the Gunslinger for instance, he thought everyone was against him but then after talking to a few members and hanging out in word games for a few, he has became a repectable member IMO and he has started to post better posts through out the forum.

I hate to say it but as of right now with the pending release of XIII, people are bored solely of talking about FF because nothing is actually new (exception VIICC), and whats a way to keep memebers here that are waiting for the XIII threads to pick up and other forums, oh wait you already can guess that one.

And I know there are other things to do on TFF like RP and RPB, but not all memebers are into things like that, myself included.

    Edit:

I just realized this is my 600th post in less the 10 months I guess that all that time in word games was a waste huh [/sarcasm]

Actually two FF games came out within the last two months.

Anyways, I also think that people should be limited to how much they can post in the Word Games forum. Word Games are ok occasionally, but I think it gets ridiculous when the vast majority of people's posts are there. I'm pretty sure Word Games aren't the main purpose of TFF.

Personally I think it would be easier to make friends by posting on other parts of the forum. I mean, how much can you learn about a person from three words?

I don't think that this would work very well either. I think this thread would pretty much turn into a chat room.

Things would be better if people would post less in Word Games and post more elsewhere around the forum. It would be nice if Intellectual Discussion was a tenth as active as Word Games is.

The problem is not so much the number of time (hence bandwidth) people spend in the Word Games forum, as it is that people have lost interest in a lot of other forums.

Restrictions on the Word Games would be kind of idiotic. You ARE allowed to post in there, just not too much... I don't think anyone has time to be posting there all day, so it's not an issue of how many times people post in there, but of how many people do it.

    Here's my idea:

    Subforum Campaigning:
There could be one member responsible for every subforum (not including the separate forums for each game, just the Game section in general, and not including the Word Games section either).
He/she would be in charge of on-forum advertisements in members' signature e.g.

The contest would have a duration of MAX 1 week and there would be a special campaign-discussion forum, where all subforum-responsibles could explain why their forum should win. Maybe we could even have a forum for each contesting forum where other conesting forums would post one question each or something. But that last thing might be too close to an actual presidential election ^_^

    what do you say?

I said 'restricted'. I think I said what I meant in an earlier post.. Can't remember. Basically, what I mean is have the spam thread, but restrict the amount of text in there [have a minimum] and the amount of times one person can post in a day [a warn if they post more than four times?]
