    PikaaaAAACHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Got sick yet again. I had another cold about a month and a half ago, and I tend to catch them whenever they come by. Or whenever someone tells me they have one, not sure anymore. That comes out to about 4 times a year minimum. However, I'm lucky enough not to catch the flu or something worse... I don't remember the last time it hit me, despite lack of flu shots and whatnot.

I used to tough them out, but nowadays I'm pretty quick to take any sort of medication the moment the symptoms come by. It makes suuuuch a big difference for recovery time. DayQuil or its generic every 4-6 hours and Nyquil at night are the best things ever, no matter how bad. Especially that Nyquil. Ohhh man that Nyquil.

How often do you get sick? What do you usually catch? What do you take? What do you do when sick? Why does being sick suck so much?

Answer or I'll give you my cold.

    I've come down with something. I noticed today when I found it really hard getting out of bed. Then again, I might have just been very tired as 8:30am isn't my usual wake up time on a day off. >>;;

Now it's almost twenty-four hours later, my throat hurts, head hurts and my nose is blocked to shit. FML.

I never used to get sick as I was an indoors type. I'd play a lot of games, study, surf the web and hang with the family. I'd maybe get sick once or twice a year. Then I got a job in retail, so when I was at my old store, I'd make contact with easily a couple of hundred people a day, even more if you count the people I didn't speak to but left their germs on the till pens and accessory boxes. That once or twice a year has turned into about five or six colds a year. I'm sneezing like a bitch as I type this, and my boyfriend is laughing down the Xbox headset at me haha... so giving that **** this cold when I see him next. ><

Worst part is that I've only just about recovered from a really bad cold I had last month. I guess I caught this from Eurogamer last week... I think I served a few thousand people, and I was surrounded by a lot more all week...

If this turns out to be that new breed of sars, I love you all!

My illnesses, no matter what they are, always start with a sore throat. Last week, a lot of people were complaining they were coming down with a cold, and the next day, my throat felt sore. So I stayed in for literally a whole day (one of my day off), and the next day, I felt fine.

I usually get a cold 3-4 times a year, and I usually sweat them out, perhaps taking the odd throat lozenge. Lately, my colds tend to go to my chest. Probably because in the past 18 months I smoke occasionally and that must have damaged the natural protection they have/had. Haven't had a cig for the past 3 weeks, though. I can go weeks, months without touching the things. It's kind of bad...

When I started at Macs, I had about four colds in my first six months, as I was interacting with the public a lot more than in my three previous jobs. Or was it that damn food lowering my resistance...?

That Nyquil sounds like awesome stuff, though. I don't know what the alternative over here is, or even if we have one.

I actually very rarely get sick. If I do, it's for maybe a day and then I get over it. I've been pretty sick before (flu, whooping cough, bronchitis), but within the last couple years... not much. I have some allergies when the seasons change, but that's dealt with easily enough.

I guess I attribute it to a good diet, plenty of exercise, enough rest, and a good constitution.

Also, I've never been very germaphobic, and have probably exposed myself to a bunch of shit. I hear that can strengthen your immune system more than Lysol will.

Boyfriend gets sick fairly often. He works with kids, and could probably take better care of himself, in terms of diet. Also he has asthma, so that's not doing him any favors. When he does get sick, I make him tea and green smoothies (if he'll let me be around him, that is). I don't know if I've ever caught something he had, though. Maybe once. My immune system does a good job.

When I do get sick, I try to eat as nutritiously as possible, get more rest than I can stand, and --if it's warm enough-- get some sunlight on my skin. Also a multivitamin an krill oil. I try to help my body out as much as possible.
    Curious?

I have two kinds of years. Years where i never get sick at all, or years where it seems I can barely get a week between colds. I'm not a germaphobe or anything, so in theory I should have a relatively decent immune system, but I lived in an in home daycare for the first couple decades of my life, which accounted for a lot of it. Between that and school, if anybody in this city had a cold, it found its way to me. Lately I've been doing pretty well, haven't had anything this year so far. when I DO get sick, it usually lasts for a quite a while and thanks to my wonderful asthma, everything goes straight for my lungs. I've been REALLY sick several times. Spent most of my christmas vacation back in 2000 or so in a hospital in Texas, playing pin cushion (that's the first IV I recall having in my life, I was not amused), and half of the TV channels were in Spanish. It was terrible. I've probably been hospitalized for sicknesses at least a dozen times by now. Almost all due to how they screwed with my asthma. If my bool oxygen saturation falls below 90%, they wouldn't let me go home from a doctor's office, so more than once an annoying clod turned into an annoying week in a hospital on an oxygen tank. Shit sucks.

I get sick during the weather changes here in Vegas. Spring and Fall usually at the start. At random weeks we get drastic weather temp drops or rising and my body just sucks apparently so I get sick. Usually twice a year I get sick. Early September, early March are the usually my sick months.

I used to get colds all the time. Every time I felt a cold coming, I just crawled into bed with a bottle of water, tissues, and some Eucerin (for the irritated, dry nose). The longest ones lasted about 2 days.
But I've been perfectly healthy for over 2 years now. That's a record for me. I attribute that to eating better (I'm the cook now) and using properly sanitized dishes.

Tip: I learned it is really important to make sure ALL of the soap has been rinsed off the dishes.

I hope you feel better soon, SOLDIER 819!

I used to get awful 2 week long sinus infections at least four times a year...I had to get a surgery on my sinuses to fix the issue. Now the only time I get sick is if I drink too much!

Narrow nasal passages mixed with nasty cold is a brutal combination, and I should know. The results are, other than usual cold symptoms, nasty headache, lack of air, and your ears hurt as he hell. Luckily I don't have such issues anymore, in fact, I rarely get sick these days.

    Yay, my 2000th post!

I rarely get sick and my diet is terrible.

I might get a cold or tonsilitis, once a year. But usually only lasts a week, which is pretty standard I believe. Last time I was sick, was like 3 months ago. I had a cough for 2 weeks, then developed a chest infection (my first one ever) for a week. I didn't even feel that bad, it was just annoying, coughing for so long. Probably the worst I've been for many years. The only other type of sick I get is woman sick, every month. I used to get migraines a lot last year, but I don't anymore.

I drank a LOT every night for a week one time. By the end of it, I had these awful flu-like symptoms. Sooooo not cool. -_-

This year I've been lucky so far and not gotten sick. Where I used to live I had a sinus infection once every two months. Right now everyone at work is playing tag with viruses and bacterial infections. It's just a matter of time before they contaminate me... *runs*

I don't get to sick between consistent exercise, and a good diet my body is pretty good. When I was little come winter time I would start to get allergy type symptoms mucus in the throat, coughing, etc. It doesn't effect me so much anymore, and when it does I pop a cough drop and be done with it.

I've gotten sick this year more than I have in probably the past 5 years.
I was in the early stages of getting staph infection
    Bronchitis (Acute I think?)
and some really strange pain in my stomach, brother thought it was a strained muscle, told me to sleep on it for a few days.

Sickness in the past 5 years:
A really bad cold that persisted for a few weeks. Doctors just kept telling me it was the common cold, but it never went away or I just kept catching it.
Other time not really sure what happened, started feeling really bad at work. Went home early, called Dad to take me to hospital. They gave me a nausea shot, I threw up a few times and thats all I remember. Don't know if anything else happened. Didn't ask.

    TL-DR I don't get sick very often.

The only sickness I ever catch are sinus infections, and that's only because I have horrible allergic reactions to things that are outdoors. The majority of my sinus infections are the worst around March or April, but I tend to get them all year round.

The last time I was really sick wasn't even a virus or anything. I had food poisoning. My stomach hurt for a while. Then I went home, and sat down on the toilet, and the entire contents of my bowels erupted from my anus like Mount St. Helens. Then, due to loss of fluid, I got really cold and passed out for a couple hours. Then I woke up with the urge to vomit. After vomiting the entire undigested contents of my stomach, which took close to four hours, I took a pain killer and forced myself to go to sleep. When I awoke, I looked half dead and weighed ten pounds lighter.

I get colds aaallll the time. I'm just about getting over my most recent cold. I try to tell myself I'm a warrior who will not be slighted by the common cold whenever I get one but I always end up lying in bed for a day sniffing vicks and drinking horrible lemsip/beechams. Luckily I haven't had tonsillitis in over a year, in early 2011 I kept getting it continuously and it was affecting my singing voice pretty badly. I think if I had gotten just one more time in that year I probably would've had to have them taken them out, according to my doctor. Amazing what antibiotics can do for ya.

Its extremely rare that I get sick. Im always walking round in singlet tops in winter n I get strange looks, everybody's all rugged up like their goin skiing. Im legit not cold I'm always hot I dno why, I feel like its conditioned n built up my immune system in that way plus Im vegan. I eat very clean. I don't ever take painkillers I adapt to most pains. I just walked my dog this morning in the rain in a singlet I'm not cold at all. Eat nutritious foods, get some cardio in your daily routine, drink tea, look after yourself n dont take on so much that it leaves you stressed/burnt out is all I can leave you with.

I think stress, lack of sleep and state of mind can affect how often you get sick and severity too. If you're not sleeping enough, or giving yourself downtime to relax, you're not giving your body enough time to heal. Most of the healing your body does is while you're asleep or resting. Lack of sleep could be due to stress or worry, which I think can lower your defences. Last week, for example, I overworked myself with no rest, barely any sleep, and I lived off fast food. And now, I feel like shit with this damn cold that I wouldn't have got if my immune system was ready for a fight.

It's why eating healthy and remaining active is good for you too. People who eat fresh food and exorcise regularly are less likely to suffer from depression, and they tend to lead happier lives. I do feel good after some exorcise, when I'm all sweated out (yummy image, I know, but true!). It's hard to feel low about your day when your body is pumped full of adrenaline, and all you want to do is drink all of the fruit juice, take a shower and settle down for the day in clean PJs.

My sleep patterns are shitty and erratic. One some weekdays I wake up at 6AM, others at 10. On the days I have to wake up early I probably get about 6 hours... then on the weekends I sleep for like 9+. Probably one of the reasons I get sick so frequently. Daylight's Savings Time over here won't help with that, either. Goddamn sun is going to be setting at like 6PM.

I got over my cold pretty quickly. It was weak. But now my mouth is all burnt up from hot gooey cheese on delicious pizza, so it feels like I have a sore throat.

Che still hasn't told us about how he gets down with the sickness. He must live in a plastic bubble and therefore lacks our mortal concerns.
