    Our freedom has been challenged...

What freedom you ask? The freedom of net neutrality. Recently, I'm sure some of you have heard of that CEO guy from Virgin saying "Net neutrality is a load of bollocks" and being very direct that he wants to throttle everybody's bandwith unless they pay more. Furthermore, he also wants sites to pay more too. First of all, throttling is illegal. Second, this IS a serious issue for everybody. If Virgin actually pulls this off and other ISP's follow suit, you may not even see or be able to get on TFF or just about any site you go to that aren't within the big corporations. As the internet is truly a place of democracy, we should keep it this way by fighting back and protesting this action, showing them what happens when you try to dictate what we can and cannot get by slapping a price on everything.

If you want to know more, my sig links to a site that explains all of this a bit better. Get the word out about what's happening.

Yeah I just posted a bulletin on myspace. I'll be supporting them regardless of how big or little impact I'll have. Freedom is freedom, and I don't like those who want to take it from anyone.

    THEY HAVE MY SUPPORT!

Seriously, they have my support too. But.. "movielol" doesn't sound like a serious website name at all, haha.

Okay, now I'm depressed. I support challenging this movement since there are a whole bunch of other companies thinking of killing net neutrality too. I love my internet and my ability to go anywhere I want with the same loading speed.

They have most of my support. I'm just worried about what will happen to the internet if there is too much going on. There was a Yahoo article about what could happen if there is too much broadband and action going on. Here it is:

I love my internet too much...I'm worried about what will happen to it.

If this comes into play and other company's follow suit then it will be a word-wide problem. Not even the people of Holland will be safe!

I now dislike Virgin... Maybe I should change my ISP.

Freedom? Whats freedom? Does it exist? I don't think so...

I agree - we NEED to stand up to these ****ers that think they rule everything! I say a strike!

... that won't work - can you strike over the internet? I didn't think so... And that don't always work...

I don't like Virgin - never have. There has always been that 'little' something about it that bugs me... its almost like a "Whats the catch?" feeling, if you get what i mean...

Actually you can strike over the internet. It's called spreading the word around and giving out your opinions on blogs and forum posts and things like that, and also if your ISP follows suite of virgin, you can boycott and cancel your subscription (also have everyone else boycott) as a sign that it was a very bad move.

That's just what I think though.

You must not understand the level of power the people of the internet have. If companies like Virgin try to take away something where freedom can be expressed in any form or manner, people are going to have a very big problem with that. People who know how to hack, plant viruses, and really mess people up. It's actually like in the movie hacker when they had thousands of hackers attack one system all at once. That can actually happen if the time calls for it and whoever is on the receiving end is gonna get it good. Not just that, but they'll do what Tophi just mentioned and cancel their subscriptions, forcing Virgin to lose millions.

Taking on the internet and the freedom of net neutrality is like taking on the biggest military power in the world. You're gonna get ****ed.

Aerif is right, Usagi. It's not just companies in America, but all over Europe too. It'll spread if everything goes smoothly. That's why we've got to be annoying little internet lovers and spread the word about this and boycott them. It's not hard to strike over the internet Unknown Entity. It's the internet. We can basically do whatever we want with almost any information we want.

The hacker thing seems a bit too wild though. It would be hard to organize such a thing, and I doubt it would really work. It might be interesting if the whole hacking event happened, since it would really draw some attention and cause trouble, but I think the regular boycotting and protesting will have to do. That's just a little to radical for a some people.

The Internet has been and should always be open to everyone. It just goes to show that people with money really do think they should own the damn world.

Hmm...it's probably a scam or an exaggeration at least to get someone else (like the people) to pick up the bill. The internet's a lot of work. Overlord companies are cheap. Heck, I'd spread shit around if I was only making 90 billion spending 20 of it on my maintenance.

    Mooommmm pay this for me!!

I think Southpark has already prepared us all for an event such as there being no internet. All the nerds (and I do not mean that in a bad way) are massing. Someone will come up with a solution somewhere, some small company will start and make things better. This is exactly what they want, I'd say...someone else to take the responsibility. It's tactics. Pretty smart tactics, if you're out to make the big bucks.

    I wouldn't worry about it...

Besides, isn't the world ending in 2010? Or was it 2012? Or 2009? I'm sure there'll be some kind of Armageddon in the meantime.

Oh yeah, that. Well then, let's just enjoy the internet for as long as we can. It's 2012 according to one of the intellectual discussion threads here. Something from the Mayans predicting it.

The internet is a series of tubes.

And this shit is what IRC was made for. The hackers don't even need a concerted effort, I doubt they could amass one - but just a few of them at a time, I mean the real basement-dwellers who dream in C++, you know the kind? The type that think themselves too good to work for the likes of Virgin. They'll unleash the geekiest version of hell the world has ever seen if anyone takes their toys away.
