    New Year's Resolutions

The most unfulfilling self-prophecies ever made. =P

Is it a tradition in your family?

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?

What are your resolutions for this year?

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?

    I. It's an off-and-on thing for my family. Most of the time we do make at least a couple, just because. It's almost always the same few things year after year though.

II. As mentioned above, it's an ongoing thing, but yes, I do tend to lapse fairly quickly. I think resolutions are by their very nature setting people up for failure 'cause everyone encourages you to set impossible goals.

III. I actually made my resolutions on my birthday a few weeks ago, but so far I've been doing okay following them. Little things mostly, like being more organized, eating less, and working out more. I find being less specific makes it easier to follow cause I feel like if I deviate a bit from them it's not a total failure. Like if I skip one day working out, it's not like I said I'd do it every day, just that I'd do it more. So it's less pressure.

I usually do follow my resolutions, but it's not really a family tradition. Usually, I only promise myself one or two little things.

This coming year, I will continue to adopt animals and give them nice lives.
    I will find a job.
I will ocassionally treat myself, rather than never buying myself anything at all.
    Drink more tea.

Sometimes I don't make resolutions, but that's usually because there's not a lot I need to change in my life.

Not a tradition in my family. My parents don't even do it I think.

My new years resolution is to be able to play the guitar. I've always wanted to play since the 7th grade. So now is the time to do it! 7-8 years later!

I rarely have made resolutions. I try my best to do them!

I try to make resolutions each year but somehow they never really come to pass, I hope this year will be different.

    I. Never was a tradition, I tend to be a rebel when it comes to Traditions

II. With most resolutions I tend to be off and on with them, but hey some things are beyond my control.

III. My resolutions this year is to find a job, continue my college studies once I do finally find one, and hopefully save up enough money to afford to get my own apartment.

Is it a tradition in your family?

Well there is a tradition in my family on new years but it is not based on resloutions, for some reason my mom thinks that black-eyed peas are a sign of good fortune and a possiblility at wealth so every new years (and the one time of the year) I will plug my nose and shovel down a spoonfull of those nasty little things.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?

I try to there has only been one that I haven't been able to complete so far and I will make the same resolution this year.

What are your resolutions for this year?

To quit smoking. Thats it so far.

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?

1)Is it a tradition in your family?
I can't really say. My family never really raised me to make New Year's Resolutions. I just learned what they were as I grew up and made them on my own each year.

2)If you make resolutions, do you follow them?
You know, I try to each year on the ones I make for myself, but I end up not following them a majority of the time. Though I can say that the resolutions I did make for 08, I did actually stick to.

    3) What are your resolutions for this year?
Haha. I have quite a few this year:

    I. Get a job.

II. Family stuff. (Too personal to say.)

    III. Start college.

    IV. Have my own car.

    V. Have my own place.

VI. Get a tattoo and a piercing (Still pissed off about yesterday.)

VII. Try to cuss less. (I cuss like a truck driver.)

Some of them are big. Some of them are small. 2009 seems like a year full of changes with me becoming an adult and figuring on what I want to do with my life. But as long as I can achieve my first 5 resolutions, then I'll be alright.

Is it a tradition in your family?
Nope, though we all make them. Do we keep them though?

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?
Nope, though we do follow them for about a week lol.

What are your resolutions for this year?
    1. To FOLLOW my resolution.
    2. Make more packed lunches to take to school.
    3. Save up my money.
    4. Say hi to friends more often.
    5. Drink more water.

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?
To be honest, I don't know what my opinion is. Probably a waste of time would be mine, but thats just me. People who stick by them I have great respect for, and so feel that it might not be a waste of time. I don't know if I made any sence, but hopefully you get what I mean? :S

No, it's not a tradition in my family..I'm probably the only one who even thinks of Resolutions at all lol.

I have tried to follow my resolutions but I end up following them by accident after forgetting them months later...it's hard to explain XD

Um, I haven't thought about it until just this moment....but i guess i have to start doing yoga again. I keep stopping randomly. It might sound like a chore, but I do love yoga.

Is it a tradition in your family?

Not that I know of. And neither is it a personal tradition.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?

If I want to do something, I do it. I always was that way and don't need any special resolutions to do what I'd do anyway.

What are your resolutions for this year?

Same as always, have a good time wherever possible and look out for myself and those I care for. It works fairly well for me most of the time...

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?

I think they can help a person who isn't as confident find the ability to make a change they've been wanting to. But I also think that the majority of the time, people don't stick with them long enough for them to be all that worthwhile. There are exceptions of course, most notably a resolution to do a one off thing not requiring too much time and effort.

Is it a tradition in your family?
Nah, I don't think we've ever really made resolutions. Maybe some of my family do, but I wouldn't actually know. Never talked about it. I tend to make a couple, even if I forget about them later.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?
Err.. well, I try to. Mine are generally school-related and it works out for the first week or so while the going's easy, but as we get more work I tend to fob it off until the last minute which is what I resolve NOT to do. ><

What are your resolutions for this year?
[i] Get a job and actually save money.
[ii] Work hard at school. It's my last year. I need to do this. Work for Dux. I know I can do it if I can be bothered.
[iii] Be more balanced. Both good marks AND a social life are possible to have concurrently.
[iv] Don't do anything that I'm not sure is right for me. Stick to my morals like stink on a warthog.
    [v] Get my P plates.
[vi] Get out more. Staying inside all the time can't be healthy.
[vii] Be nicer and get a swear jar. I need to stop swearing, seriously. See [iv].

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?
Great if you can stick to them, but if you can't then you're just being traditional. Win either way. >.<

Nope. We've joked around about it before, but that's about it.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?
Eh, most likely not. I rarely bothered with the whole thing.

What are your resolutions for this year?
Well, as far as goals go, I'd have to say getting a job, definitely.

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?
If you want to do them, go right ahead. Don't bother me none.

I've never once made resolutions I've followed.

Mine for this year are rather serious, however.

    * Finally get out of my dating slump. It's getting old, and I'm tired of letting myself get depressed over it.

    * Stop smoking. Seriously... stop. I've becoming full on addicted to it and I've tried multiple times over the past year. I highly doubt this will be followed through on, honestly.

    * Make myself more happy. Become less self destructive, ect ect.

Usually this is a tradition in my family, with my mum always proclaiming that she's going to lose weight and my dad saying he'll going to the gym more, yeah right.

This year I decided that I would:

1)Stop spending so much money on pointless crap and therefore be able to save up for uni.

    2) Try not to take things so seriously.

Whether or not I stick to these remains to be seen.

Is it a tradition in your family?
No, it never has been, my sisters use to make up resolutions but never kept them.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?
I use to make the same resolution every year and that was to stop biting my nails but I always broke it with a matter of days.

What are your resolutions for this year?
Erm to try and save up this year, I struggled with Xmas this year so I'm gunna start saving up earlier for it.

Is it a tradition in your family?
I don't think so.. well no one ever talks about it. I wouldn't even know if my family made resolutions.. but they probably don't.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?

Well, I do for a while.. but then something happens and I get distracted and forget. But this year I really want to try hard to keep them.. no matter how small they may be.

What are your resolutions for this year?

    1. Save money instead of spending it on items I don't really need
    2. When I get accepted into a course at Uni.. even if it isn't the one I want. Work hard so that I will be prepared for my course and will have made the most of my time there.
    3. See more of my friends. I have seen less and less of them since leaving school so this year I want to catch up with my friends and build stronger relationships with them.
    4. Get my license. I have a car and my learners.. but I just need my license.
    5. Exercise more. To be more healthy and to lose weight. It only has benefits and I really should. This one I want to keep to the most.
    6. Drink more water. I don't really like water all that much.. but I should drink more of it.
    7. Be a nicer person to myself.. mainly. It sounds silly but that is the nicest way I can say this one without getting too personal.

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?
I think they are good if you stick to them.. if you don't sometimes they are still fun to make.. so I like them.

I: Get Better at the Guitar and/or Bass. (already started last year )

II: Dedicate studying time to studying.

III: Finish a Final Fantasy other than VII for once.

IV: Try and get my parents to allow me to buy Sephiroths Sword off eBay.

V: Take up Wrestling. That'd be awesome.

Is it a tradition in your family?
Nope. It's not traditional to make them, but every now and then members make them.

If you make resolutions, do you follow them?
This is the first year I can actually remember making decent resolutions. So I won't be able to answer this properly until next year. xD

What are your resolutions for this year?
    1) Exercise more. It can only be good for me.
    2) Talk to more people on MSN. I often neglect to start conversations because I'm distracted by all the apps I have open. No more! Rocco will become a social butterfly! On MSN at least. Be prepared to be inundated with conversations. =D
    3) Get my P plates.
    4) Become less critical.
    5) Actually study rather than just do stuff in class.
    6) Aim for Dux. See 5.

If you don't do resolutions, what is your opinion of them?
They're a tradition, methinks. A good one though. Better than say walking through town with bats and torches, laying waste to every building in site. If you can actually stick to your resolutions, I think that's great. If you can't, well, at least you tried?

    Not really.

    Not really.

What are your resolutions for this year?

    I resolve to...drink more tea.

A wise man once said that "if you're going to turn over a new leaf, never let your devils know." If I said that like for the new year I would not drink at all. That would be a stupid and dangerous thing to do. Because immediately I'd present myself with the concept of 365 drink-less days and there's no way I'd make it.

Big changes in your life shouldn't be done en masse. That's a good way to crush yourself underneath your vanity and sacrifice self-esteem. There are so many easier ways.

    No.

    Never made any to follow.

To actually talk to Eddie when depressed as opposed to shutting myself off from him and spamming my elljay. Also to start keeping my own twenty-three book.

My partner has now made new year resolutions for both of us lol, I doubt he will keep them up for long tho, her can never stick at doing something for to long. He wants to lose wait and be a little more wise in spending money, and for me he has decided that I need to keep on top of the house work a bit more and that we also have to get our garden compltyly done this year, although I do not see any of thoses happening, oh well we can only try lol

We don't really do the whole resolutions thing, never have. My family's always been big on the idea of if you want to get something done, just freakin do it. Don't wait for any specific time or day to decide to change, just do what you need to do.

Making New Years resolutions is just an excuse to fail. You can always say "well, only x percent of people actually keep theirs, so it's ok if I don't." If you were ready to change, you would've done it by now. Deciding to change when you're ready to will lead to better commitment and you'll actually WANT to stick with your changes.

Personally I think that other people making new years resolutions is a pain in the ass and a waste of my time. I'm gonna sound pretty shallow here, but if so many people didn't join gyms in January and then quit in February, then I wouldn't have to go at 11pm right now. Thanks for inconveniencing me, dicks.

Now don't get me wrong, but if you're gonna be serious about your changes, then I'll support you, but if it's the same thing year in and year out, with no change, then I don't wanna deal.

I'm very disorganized sometimes, so I've been making a schedule for myself. My grades slipped a little because I didn't use time wisely for studying and the such. It wasn't that I wasn't capable of the coursework, either. Now, I have to get a mandatory(and very pointless) tutor for track. So, a good rule kids: MANAGE YOUR TIME!

I think they're kind of pointless. If you're going to do, you'll do it; you'll want to do it. If you don't want to do it, chances of it happening slim down.

I got annoyed the other day. I went to the gym and the guy at the desk said, 'Another new years one, eh?' and I just kind of grimaced at him, my card says 'December 08' on it. There have been a lot of portly people in the gym this January. I expect that their numbers will drop soon.

It's a statement for how New Years resolutions work. My friend, who's been going to the gym for a year more than me, told me about it. I asked her when the busiest times were, since the gym has about 5 treadmills, 5 crosstrainers and a million crappy bike machines (hence Swim n Gym being en vogue now), and instead of saying 'Lunchtime' or '5 o'clock', she just said, 'January. Don't even try in January, it's pointless.'

I don't really have any, but I felt like I've made some positive changes so far this year such as being more organized with things & not exposing myself to negative things. In the beginning of past years, I would make a list of resolutions. However, I would fail with pretty much all of them.
