A new way to look at the world

Why is the world map always shown in the same format? Or am I ignorant and there are different places in the world who use a different layout. I've seen it this way my entire life.

I recently came across this picture, though. Now I'm wondering why I've always looked at it the same way.

There is no up or down in space.

It's just a habit. There's no real scientific reason for it.

EDIT: Forget what I said about magnetic poles. Apparently the south magnetic pole IS somewhere around Antarctica, meaning around what we call the South pole. I could've sworn some teacher told me something else years ago.

I've seen maps with America in the middle too.

But yeah, I've thought about the same thing. Maybe if there were too many world maps like those, people would get slightly confused. Because the earth is round, you can make a map from any angle. So picking the "norm" for the well known layout is better for recognition purposes?

I dunno. It's interesting to some degree I guess.

These make me chuckle. When maps betray worldviews. Though the exact same could be said, I suppose, for the 'standard' maps that have Europe as the center of the world.

The cardinal directions stay the same, no matter how your map is positioned.

Nope, I refuse to believe this new way to look at the world. This shatters my whole foundation on what I believe in. Just try to explain to me how this picture is a lie!!

Meier: Hey Pete, I said I started to, it just didn't end the with the same number of women. Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.

Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

Re: A new way to look at the world

That second map is wrong. That's how the world is viewed in the southern hemisphere only. People down there do everything backwards. If I lived in the southern hemisphere, I'd have a mustache, wear expensive suits, and I'd run a multi-million dollar drug cartel. It would be Bizarro fake Eastwood. The world just looks different from up here, in a better kind of way.

I don't agree with the first map, either, because since America is the center of the universe, it would also be the center of the world.
