Need some help, a bit of advise!

Basically this is pretty simple but I'm not really sure what I should do for this research paper of mine. My Topic is over Censorship but I haven't come up with a thesis statement and need some guidance on where I want to take this so I decided to ask the community.

Does anyone have some good idea's for a thesis statement or perhaps a direction I could take it? Thanks guys

Oh hell no I don't want anyone to write the paper for me I just need a sort of direction on how to go with Censorship and Yes I agree with your statement but I need sources from edu sites and stuff and I don't think they will have stuff on that XD.

Direction. I usually do all my homework but its my final paper and I'm studying a whole lot and have had little time for it and just started thinking. Was hoping for some advise

Haha fair enough. "Censorship" is pretty broad. Limiting it will help. Censorship in videogames, censorship in movies, censorship in schools, etc.

Hm yeah I figured it would need to be limit down, but what is censored the most in life is the real question at this point because that leads to more and more sources.

If you can figure out how you feel about censorship and what kind of censorship you mean, then this paper will come a lot easier to you.

Also, don't take a certain stance on a paper unless you have to. You can explore both the good and bad points of it, and with that you can make a big paper with all kinds of stuff in it.

I believe censorship is good to a point, but words though I have an issue with only because I live in USA and the first amendment states we have freedom of speech yet I can't say anything I want in public because of offensive language by different people.
I was thinking of books to be honest because I can't believe that some books have been banned from schools or censored because of their content.
Also wouldn't mind writing over video games but I don't believe there will be to much sources. I think the best choice source wise would be in school or literature.

TehRD, do your paper on what you're interested in, not what we're interested in and think is important. It will help you keep your sanity and actually want to write the paper.

Do something about censorship in school. Should be easy enough to find plenty of topics/arguements about. You may not even like the topic but you'll find enough info about it that the paper-research/writing process will be short and enjoyable. Unlike Oceaneyes. Well, at least the enjoyable part.

And like Ally said, write about what you're interested in, and just make sure that you'll have enough to write about without needing too much filler and without having to backtrack and recant your original arguments.

Once you have the topic limited you can always start with a brief history and how it has evolved to date and possibly where it could be in the next 15 or so years.

Also a good start would be to get out your pen / pencil and paper and log off of TFF haha.

LOL Meier. Thanks and thanks to everyone who replied. I'll do that and sleep on it in 30minutes. Going to try and get this started so I can knock it off tomorrow and than just study for Finals. Will be around the forums more often after December 15th

Maybe try and distinguish between 'actual' censorship (like the prohibition of pornography), and 'societal' censorship: what is and what is not deemed acceptable: political correctness in a sense.

It would help to decide if you find it good or bad, and in what amount. With total freedom, things would be wild. With no freedom, alternate opinions would not be heard, though many bad things would be prevented. It's a fine balance between the poles, and it would be good to try and be specific about what should be censored.

Consider too the possibility of 'partial censorship'. It could be considered censorship to ban fast food advertisements on TV during children's television, but if you then said that they are more acceptable to an adult audience, you are showing that wise sense of balance.

Note that I just made those terms up.

You could always do a paper on press freedom, if that's relevant enough.

Also, writing a paper doesn't mean you should come up with an answer at the end. If your paper is about whether censorship is necessary or not, you probably won't find it to be as black-and-white as some people might suggest.

Maybe do an essay about the word fuck , and try to explain how ridiculous it is to bleep it out when everyone knows what word is being bleeped out. The power of the word fuck IS the fact that it is censored.

You could also try and write about the differences between the US and Europe in terms of censorship.
