    Mac & Cheese

I'm going to baking me some fine mac and cheese today, and I need ideas. Do you guys put anything special in your cheese+carb foods?

I usually throw velveeta and muenster in with my macaroni, let it melt, then cover it with cheddar and colby jack before throwing it in the oven. The second time around I added bacon, and that was amazing. This time around I'm considering making it spicier with pepper jack and maybe a bit of Tabasco... but I'm not sure. I also considered ditching muenster for something else, like more cheddar (because more cheddar is always better), and adding sour cream to help with the taste? Possibly a tomato-base pasta sauce... or sliced tomatoes. I'm trying to make it less bland.

Also I hear that in some parts of the world they use cucumbers instead of tomatoes in their grilled cheese. CRAZY.

OMG that sounds delicious. Bacon's awesome in it, but I don't eat it anymore. I've had stewed tomatoes mixed with my Mac&cheese before, that was tastey. I've also had lobster Mac&cheese, which was also tastey. Velveeta is always an excellent choice, I've mixed a little milk in before to make it creamier. I also like the mini shells better than the generic Mac&cheese noodles.

&& cucumbers sound kinda good with that actually, but I have eclectic tastes sometimes. ;P

Cooked broccoli chopped in small pieces goes great with mac & cheese. Cooked bacon could be dank as well. I've never tried baking mac/shells and cheese before but want to.

Be sure to update us on how it went and the recipe used.

I love to cook, but usually when I go Mac n Cheese I go with Kraft boxed mac n cheese. I typically spice it up by adding some sliced up hot dogs.

I had some Mac n Cheese at a restaurant one time, and it had chunks of roasted tomato's, and a blend of herbs as a garnish. Not what I am used to but very good.

You've never had macaroni and cheese?! You would love it... it's like one of the most amazing, simplest dishes ever. If you like tomatoes, I'd add some in. Bacon is good too.

    Mac&Cheese. <3

The best mac and cheese ever is right around the corner from me. They use all these awesome stinky cheeses and ham and it's amazing and my mouth is watering and I need some now.

Ham, ground beef, bacon bits, any kind of meat really is pretty good. Last time I made made, I threw some Canadian bacon in it because I realized too late that I was out of hamburger, and found that in the fridge. Store I usually go to sells bricks of habenero cheddar, that's good shit, especially if you're looking for a little more spice. Jalapenos are good too. Like fresh ones from the produce section, not those god awful pickled pieces of crap. If you're into more heat like I am and are feeling adventurous, lot of stores sell habeneros. They have great flavor if you can handle the heat. I also like to do a salsa con queso kinda mac n cheese every now and then, I'll use nacho cheese and mix in some of this ghost pepper salsa I buy (it's not actually that hot unfortunately, least by my standards. Damn good flavor though) at Hy-Vee around here. That with some hamburger and some seasoning (I used fajita seasoning last time) is damned good. Chilli mac is always good. And it gives me an excuse to add more habeneros to my diet.

I'm pretty much Dr. Frankenstein in the kitchen, I try out all sorts of random combinations of crap I find in the fridge. Bout half the time it goes pretty well and I add a new recipe to my book. The other half, also much like Frankenstein, ends up being chased out of town by an angry mob after it takes on a life of its own and starts killing people.

    Re: Mac & Cheese

Bacon sounds really good ! When I was little it was mac n cheese with hot dogs, but now that I'm a big girl I put in ground beef and peas. On lazy days I will sometimes do hot dogs, but that maybe happens once a year. ;-) I tried those home style mac n cheese bakes from Kraft, and it was entirely too gross for me. So I gave them to a poor college girl....my sister <3
