    Life changing media/literature

So, I'm constantly influenced by all the amazing films I've seen and books I've read.

But after recently seeing and reading the novel and film Blindness, I can honestly say that it is the one that I think will have the most lasting impact on me for the rest of my life. [Has anybody else seen or read this?]

What's one that's changed your life?

If you say Twilight, I may just stab you.

Twilight has definitely changed my life. It's given me new hope in my writing career, I cannot even fathom the amount of inspiration I have from this property.

If Stephanie Meyer can publish this piece of shit and get away with it, that means my original writing works will be published without any hassle! (You know, stuff that's actually good.)

Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.

I know it may be cliche by now, but I liked it before it was cliche, dammit! It's 100% Pulp Fiction. Write some crazy random gangster shit in mixed with your drug life and real people you know to create characters, mix it up, and pull it off? I mean, if this isn't the American Dream I don't know what is.

Makes you do a lot of thinking, especially when you find that it's pretty much a lie in the end.

    Ta DA!!!:

    Alright, who censored my rocketship?

    From The Clint Eastwood
I'm thinking about creating a hybrid. A dolphin-monkey. Half dolphin, half monkey. Do you think it's possible?
I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

No spoilers about 1984, please. I stopped reading your post, Nix. Please edit it. I haven't finished the book yet.

For me it's Fight Club. I can't say it changed my persona, but it made me recognise my own ideas about society and give in to them.

The same goes for Into the Wild. Great movie and, like Ficht Club, both the story and the philosophy behind it are things I can really relate to.

1984 is a classic. Incredible book, and the deeper you get into it, the more ashamed you should become of the United States.

On Killing, along with On Combat, helped me through a lot. They discuss the psyche associated with combat and violence, humans' natural reluctance to kill, and the psychological hardship caused by suppressing that reluctance.

From what I've gathered, the stories do an awfully good job of appealing to specific needs or fantasies of a broad range of women, which has led to it's ridiculous success. The part that saddens me, however, is that my girlfriend belongs to the facebook group "Because I read the Twilight Series I have impossible standards for men."

Also, in the "arts" good is all relative. I can't really comment too much on Twilight though, since I never read/saw any of them and never will.

Anyhow.... I've never read any "life-changing" books, as I honestly don't read published material often. I'd have to say, however, that most stories, artists, writers, etc. that I've had some sort of contact with have all had some impact on me today. In high school, I idolized Bruce Lee for his ability to overcome what doctors told him should've paralyzed him, because of that, I realized that being stubborn can be a good thing when it comes to overcoming hardships. However this all had a greater impact on me because my dad had fought hard against his disability, but ultimately failed.

Like sean I can't say I've read any life-changing literature. Perhaps I haven't read enough, or maybe I just am not influenced so strong by things I've read. One author who's really captured me in Arthur Clarke though, his stuff is incredibly captivating and if you're a sci-fi fan there's nothing out there that compares. He really gets me thinking about where our future will lead us.

I flatter myself that I've never been heavily altered or changed in a profound way by what I've read or seen. We've all been shaped by what we've been exposed to by some extent. But I can't remember any one work.

If I was reaching for something, I'd say the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Howard P. Lovecraft and William Blake.

I saw Blindness with my girlfriend and her friend; there are many movies that are of very poor quality that I don't like and are horrible, however Blindess is my most hated movie of all time. I was so close to walking out of the theater because of the atrocity that I was watching - I could not stand the film... or sit for the film either.

Regarding what media/literature that has changed my life would go to the Sword of Truth series. I was introduced to the series by a friend in the 9th grade, at an assembly in the beginning of the school year.

As for Twilight... my girlfriend, her friend (same one who went to see Blindness with us), and my mother are fans of Twilight.

    Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x

    LMAO
I was about to facepalm after reading the first paragraph, but then I read the second one

I also can't really think of any life changing media.
The closes thing might be The Picture of Dorian Gray, because it got me into Wilde and maybe also got me interested in history/art, but I think my interest in history and art just appeared at around the same time independently.
