I can't stand it when people pronounce it tomato. The word is pronounced tomato.
It's the same with potato. Tomato, potato, not tomato, potato.
It would be horrible to meet someone, fall in love and then one day find out they pronounce it tomato instead of tomato. Imagine having to live with that. Pronounce it tomato, not tomato, or don't speak. English isn't a hard language to grasp, especially when you know English and no other language.

Australians are notorious for the way we pronounce certain words. The sound of the vowel changes depending on what word we are saying.

It's pronounced Torono, not Toronto. Americans make this mistake all the time. They're human, just like everyone else.
