    Interpretations.

Do you believe that dreams are signs?

I, myself, am undecided. On one hand, I have these crazy, absolutely random dreams, whenever I actually manage to fall asleep. Then if I am lucky, I'm not waking up, subconsiously talking to nothing but myself. I try to tell myself that it's just my brain acting by itself, fatigued by the day, and is acting in it's own way to wind down.

On the other, if dreams are signs indeed, then we can take Deja vu, for instance, much more seriously. We can allow ourselves to percieve our own realities, and hopefully see what our dreams are wanting to tell us.

    What do you think?

I do. Many reasons I guess...

When I was younger, I had a dream that my Aunt was pregnant. At the time, she had just started a relationship with this guy, and they seemed rather happy with eachother. So... I asked her. She said that she wasn't, and that it was too early for anything big like that t happen after only knowing him a short while.

A week later, she rang to tell us she had just found out she was pregnant. Spooky much? Wait, it gets better...

She, and everyone else in my family, were convinced she was going to have a baby girl. They did all those funky spiritual tests with family wedding rings and crystals and the like, and they all said that she was going to have a girl. I was the only one who knew she was going to have a boy.

She had a boy. Wait, it get even better.

The night/early morning she went into labour, I was dreaming it. Now, for a child as young as I was to be having detailed dreams like that, that's ****ing creepy. I could even tell her a few days later when I saw her what the midwife was say to her, and how her boyfriend was sobbing his eyes out like a big wuss. When I woke up after the dream, I asked my mum if she had had the baby yet, and my mum said no. But... when I got back from school, my mum told me she had my cousin early that morning.

I knew my Aunt was pregnant before she even knew she was herself. Thats enough evidence for me. I have had other dreams that have come true too, but not exactly like I dreamt them.

It was intersting what I was watching this morning before I left for college... about how the body sends of signals, and it is how most of us can tell how people around us are feeling. I don't particually know if that would have anything to do with these dreams, or the fact that at the time me and my Aunt were very cose, but it could be.

Lolz... I had a dream I died in a car accident yesterday... I sure hope that doesn't come true...

These are some quotes from some other members on similar topics.

    Quote: Spiral architect

Everybody dreams even if they dont realise it.
A dream is a combination of things that has processed in your mid at some time during your life, they are thoughts you have had or things ther you have partaken in. after saying that its is highly unlikely that dreams would have clairvoyant properties. but they are as too say figments of your imagination, and have some link with your memories, wiether your dream is good or bad you have thought of it

    Quote: Lilium

People on average dream 4-5 times a night during REM. It's just your mind sorting through your memories of the day you had, as well as messing with some of the older memories you have. It's just that, some people are able to remember their dreams while others can't.

As for my opinion i will say the same as what i have said in related topics.

To have a dream or night mare is your sub-conscious mind falling in and out of sleep while you maybe asleep it doesn't mean your actually fully asleep but when you have a dream or nightmare that means you have drifted right into a heavy sleep you generally experience nightmares or dreams when your sub-conscious mind is waking up which is why you usually wake up not long after having a nightmare or dream, its the brains way of exercising your brain before it is fully operational like warming up an engine.
Its not to be mixed up with astral traveling many ppl believe that they have experienced astral traveling. Astral traveling is when the soul leaves the body and is connected to the body by lets say like an elastic band for example some ppl claim to have seen themselves from above and watch themselves sleeping. When the soul is jerked back into the body by the elastic band you usually experience a jerk which can also be related to the falling dream or feeling when a person feels like they are falling out of a window or off a cliff etc and experience a jerk at the end. This may mean you have been astral traveling. While some ppl believe it many don't, many ppl also believe that that if the connection to your body and soul is broken in any way during astral traveling that your soul and body will be seperated forever which in turn results in your soul finding a new body hence re-incarnation but thats another story for another time.

And i agree with the two previous posts i believe the contents of our dreams are memories and the days happenings and can even be of the last things we see on tv etc

But when i was young i used to have a dream when i would get tickled by a gloved hand that used to come out of nowhere and i wouldn't be able to get away until i would twitch and convulse until i woke up. After that i absolutely hated being tickled and could not stand it so i do think that dreams do affect the real world in some ways. (and it only happened in one house .... maybe it was a spirit i never will find out.)

Well, here is food for thought.

What if we act out what we do in reality, to fufill the "prophecy" our dreams made? What if, for instance, instead of sitting next to your friend, or some other example, you decided to change "reality".

What I am asking is... are the dreams telling us the future exactly? Or are we still able to change our destiny?

Ahh, I strongly believe that dreams are a sign, a prophecy... I often have dreams that seem to foretell the future; at times they're scarily detailed and realistic. Heck, sometimes I have dreams while I'm awake! (LOL) I believe that dreams are messages from spirits.. and the ones that foretell your future are just possible outcomes of the future. It may be extremely easy (at times) to change that outcome you saw while at other times they may be inevitable.

I don't really believe that dreams are a sign of the future. I do however believe that dreams can be a means of sorting out our issues that we can't resolve on our own. I think that dreams can tell us things about ourselves that we may not be able to admit aloud, or even to ourselves. I'm not saying its 100% true or even a science, but I do know that our minds work in some pretty crazy ways.

For example, there was a point in college when I was more or less a highly functioning alcoholic. I would get bombed with my friends for several nights in a row, and during that time, I would have dreams that I was involved in car crashes, where I was driving. These dreams would happen until I stopped drinking as frequently.

Now, I went onto a dream interpretation website, and it states that dreams about car wrecks are often symbolic of life being wrecked. If you're the driver, then you're doing it to yourself; if someone else is driving, or hits your car, then it means that you believe that someone else is responsible. Reading that kind of helped me to realize that I was more or less doing some damage to myself. However, at the same time, I already knew that my behavior was self destructive. Reading about the dream was just icing on the cake.

I've also had one dream where I saw my high school music room, a week before I ever stepped into it. It was surreal walking into the room, but I can't really say if it was seeing the future or anything of the sort.

They're not signs at all. They're our brain trying to shit out our subconcious while we're asleep. Otherwise our brains would all explode.

Personally I feel that Dreams are merely an effect of your sub conscious in action, things that you do not directly feel but they're in the back of your mind and when you are asleep your mind is most vunreble allowing them to effect your dreams. This is why it may seem they are telling you something, merely thoughts you haven't actually thought about directly but only indirectly.

Let me try to explain it: You know how when you're on a computer and you're typing without looking at the keyboard? You're not even thinking where your fingers are meant to go they just flow straight to where you want them to as you type out the word. In fact I'm doing it right now, your dreams are kind of like that.

Something thats stressing you in the back of your mind but you're not directly focused on it will probably come through this way. Back in your subconscious you know what to do but you're not aware of it. Perhaps the stronger it becomes the more likely it will appear in your dreams. It's the same way if you keep smelling some type of food without noticing it then you'll suddenly want it.

Déjà vu has many theories, one person recently mentioned to me that it's kind of like a glitch in which your mind sends what you are currently seeing to your long term memory thus it feels like you've felt it before. The only problem with this for me personally is when it happens I normally have a habit of predicting whats going to happen next just before it happens and of course it does happen.

There's probably some kind of perfectly logical explaination behind it which I must admit makes things kind of boring to be honest.

Dreams are just simply a manifestation of our subconscious mind. It's either something which is bothering or troubling you in your life without noticing it, or just things that you have discussed or consciously thought about for a briefly.

As regards to dreams predicting the future, I feel that it's nonsense. There are such things as coincidences, so dreams therefore don't have any foresight involved.

I'm really not sure to be honest. Some people are convinced that their dreams have become reality, others strongly disbelieve. Only a small number of my dreams have happened, but its normally things when i'm in a time of stress, and I can't really use those examples as valid proof of dreams being meaningful since they are most likely my subconsious telling me how to deal with things, as it often comes about with me having to deal with people problems.

When and if I meet that lovely coffee shop bloke out of one of my most memorable dreams, I may start believing more in dreams having relevence in life. Although i'm not sure i'd want to believe that all dreams are like that, thinking about the horrific recurring ones I got when I was about 12 or 13 about a huge tidal wave hitting the south coast of England while I was at the beach with my friends and family.

    A little of both.

I think most dreams are frivolous and silly. Though some seem to be more or give an odd feeling like maybe you should heed it's actions that occur there. I've had things that are similar in dreams show up in my life later. Could be coincidence, or maybe a sign. I don't really know overall. You gotta do and think what feels right I suppose.

I think sometimes dreams are ways of our conciense trying to get our attention. I cheated in this test once, and afterward, i had this string of horrible nightmares.

I think dreams are our subconscious being filtered through our memory while we sleep. Because of that I do believe that our dreams can tell us important things, we observe a lot more than we actually take in subtle signals that point towards a single cause. I do not however believe that dreams can be relied on nor that they foretell the future, if you have a dream and it doesn't happen you forget it, if it does you add unnecessary symbolism.

As a person I don't tend to dream very often, although considering my habits of thought before and after sleeping it's hard to tell where imagination ends and a dream begins. Strangely my nightmares are a lot easier to detect, and I can still remember a number of them in vivid detail.

    The Gargoyle
    SPOILER!!:

    The gargoyle sits, solemnly, alone
    That silent man of stone
Here, for his deeds he must atone

    Beaten eyes stare blankly
    Withered arms curved and wrinkly
    Bat-like wings spread fully

For once he was a man deceitful
His soul decored in black so hateful
From his despair grew pain most vengeful

With his death he was deserted
    Left condemned and desecrated
    Bound to form most understated

And now he is but a statue made of stone
    Sitting all alone

    Star Gaze
    SPOILER!!:
High in the sky, blinking down on us
    We all watch the stars
    Believing, as we do
That friends and lovers long since moved away are staring upwards too
Remembering us as we remember them
Smiling in the light of an unatainable star
And even if the star was snuffed out at that very moment
    We would never know
    We just keep smiling
And believe the star is true

My dreams tell me how to plot my day. If I have a very very very long dream I will go to the library and sleep so I can continue it and find out the ending. But sometimes I won't listen because who wants to listen to things all the time?

Also, never harm a dreamcat. Or Kirby.
