Instead of the self congratulatory references that come with belonging to a particular gender, why not take the time to remind that special woman in your life why she is unique and congratulate her for HER achievements and recognize HER efforts to achieve her goals. This is far more preferable to some bullshit superficial praise.
This is obviously an interpretation of how I would deal with the misandrist 'women's day'. Sure, there is a mens day too, but it is NOT celebrated like women's day and is merely just a scribble on the calendar of history. Call it a sign of the times, a reflection of societies disposition towards women, but just make damn sure that you understand that a person is not inherently special and especially not because of their gender.
