I'm not asking to be an ass, but more of a clinical or outsider perspective.

I've had people in my life that I convinced myself that I'd be with and love forever, like legitimate multi-year relationships. Today, I really couldn't be bothered with any aspect of their lives.

As for the general public, I've helped stranded drivers and have donated to charity. It's always been rather impersonal bit of benefit to someone
