U.S. Drug Policy Would Be Imposed Globally By New House Bill

So, basically. If this gets passed by congress, we are no longer gonna be able to , as Americans, talk about going to Amsterdam and smoking weed. It would be a federal crime.

Discuss the sanity of this bill.

Okay, I'm not even sure where to start with this. That is downright moronic.

So, let me understand this... we lose our right to free speech while SPEAKING of things that may not be legal in all parts of this country? But are legal in some? It's not like every person talking about planning a trip to Amsterdam and asking about the best place to pick up some maryjane is going to come back and bomb a city bus. I really don't see how this can impact anything at all, other than raise taxes to pay for more people in jailhouses.

The bill states it would be a federal crime. So not only would you be paying taxes for people in jailhouses, you would BE in jail.

Right, that's what I implied.

The taxes would have to raise in order to cover the costs of all of the new cellmates.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant "raise" taxes as in collect more taxes because more people were going to be breaking the law, which = more taxes paid. I dunno how I got that from that, but that's what happened.

speaking of strange laws, I remember a law in the city I used to go to college at (it was a private christian college) that forbid people from mowing their lawns on sunday. It was a noise ordinance that could be fine-worthy.

I doubt this law gets passed. If so, then I want the pornographic industry to get the rightful bailout they deserve as well.

I'm heavily against drug use, but this is a violation of peoples freedom of speech. Not only that, if they wish to do so they should be able to do so. Especially if its legal in the area in which they wish to do it.

I'd just like to know how they are going to enforce it. I hope that they are not planning on following holidaymakers out of the US to make sure they stay out of trouble.

Even something as simple as the drinking age. It is 18 in the UK, between 17-18 in mainland Europe, and people between 18-21 coming from the US states where 21 is the drinking age like to take advantage of the lower drinking age. Are they going to enforce this as well?

The law may pass, but I can see it being like the fox-hunting law over here; they still let it go on regardless. -_-

I was going to say the same thing as Tallulah. How do they enforce it? Drug testing if you are coming back from Amsterdam?

How can you prove that it was spoken about on US soil? Couldn't people just loophole around it and say that it was a spur of the moment idea? (Using the reference that the article makes about the bridal party getting weed as a gift) Unless of course some dumbass sends out a memo or something while here.

I dunno, doesn't make sense to me on how they'd keep up with it.

I instantly thought of the internet when I read the article. Facebook, instant messaging, forums, etc. Great way to prove, since it's documented, and traceable through IP.

Even still though!

Being that I just planned a wedding, even if we were going to Amsterdam I would never had written anywhere that we'd be doing that. Probably nothing more than an itinerary that had going to such and such cafe for refreshments.

I dunno. I get that in some instances that it could totally be traceable and culpable but it seems so weak to me. Just so its out there, I don't even do drugs. I dislike them immensely for myself, I have no opinion on others who do them (their lives, their choices).
