Maybe I'm simply a tech-whore, but I'm fairly certain that there are wondrous new technologies such as cameras, webcams and telephones that can help you see and know someone you meet online. There's also these things called cars and airplanes that allow one to travel great distances in relatively short periods of time that help even more.

I have online had one online relationship. She was decent looking, and let me see her tits a few times so it was all good. Until she found out where I lived, and began to stalk me. It was really f*cking weird, she also came to one of my football games. It was cool online where I could just say "Hey get on your webcam and show me your tits", but when she tracked me down, and showed up f*ck that shit...

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!

My post was a joke too. "Get over it."

It's amazingly convenient when we decide that our posts are jokes only after we're called out on them. Fun too.

I have had a few when I was younger.

I am in one now as well. I've been dating him for over a year. In April I am moving to his country so we can be together. So I've had good experiences with most of them. =]

I don't know sonny. I might be getting old, see, and I might not be well versed in all the newest technology all you kids are using these days but last I checked the scene there weren't no damn computer gadgets for giving that special girl a hug or whatever, dagnabbit. I might be old fashioned and shit, but that strikes me as being a little important in most relationships.

Dude, Joe. **** you for posting that poop pic, I was eating macaroni just now!!

I think internet relationships are a hassle. Waiting for any longer than 1 year to see someone is a pain in the ass. It's hard to take that shit seriously, it doesn't feel real enough for me. Even if you meet them in person, they still live too far away(reguarding long distance ones) and I am not gonna pay that much money to go back and forth every year.
Also, I avoid dating sites like the plague. Most people on them are just looking for a good time in bed, and I'm looking for more than that.

That technology does exist actually. They're called airplanes. Or cars. or trains, or whatever else one could use to physically move their bodies towards another's. Though, to be fair, I never claimed one could hug someone else with technology; I was only responding to a comment that one could not know or see someone in an online relationship. You don't need to hug someone to know or see them. Unless you consider the way someone hugs to be an integral part of their personality. Like palm reading, but with hugs.

Taking an airplane to physically be with someone for a week and then leaving nullifies a relationship's status as long distance?

The assumption of maturity by the immature these days, I swear...

This is getting ridiculous. The thing that really bugs me about online relationships is that you two can be as close and in love as anyone in the history of time, but when you actually meet the person, you two can wind up being so incredibly awkward with each other that it's just plain boring or weird. I also think that in a real relationship, things like physical chemistry play a huge role. But in online relationships, they're all but nonexistent. I'm a pretty physical and playful person, and I'm a big fan of being able to goof off physically with someone I'm interested in.

Silly Jin, always having to be rightAnd the comment on Silver's maturity? Lighten up a little, man. You're no fun to talk to when you get this way. Isn't it ironic? lololroflcopter.

But see, doing things like taking a plane ride or driving across country cost lots of money, making those things impractical. But then you're going to come back and say that you didn't say that they weren't, right? Or some other thing that I haven't thought of. But I'm sure you have an answer, right? The internet is serious business, as Chez and Govinda like to say.

I have thought of internet relationships in the past. I have even been encouraged by friends to pursue such relationships in the past, even whilst telling them I'm not completely sure about it, myself. I don't think I will consider them anymore, really, unless I meet someone online who happens to live within easy driving distance of where I live. I am fine with talking to people online still, however. Whenever I can get internetz again on my computer, I will probably be on MSN again. Anyhoo...

    A little too ironic.

I would also like to add that in the past hour, I have not become a fan of online relationships. I do however enjoy talking with all of you online, but unless anyone were to move locations, I don't see any dating happening.

Right, because a comment about someone's maturity is mean spirited while implying that someone is a kid is all in good fun. Much more different. My apologies.

You can imagine whatever tone or mood you'd like my post to reflect, but at least keep things in context.

To keep this on topic, this is another problem with online, text based relationships: the lack of ability to convey tones. It's so easy to imagine the tone of someone's text based on what you think you know of the person and have them actually mean something completely different. Without body language and inflections, miss-communication is inevitable.

But I suppose I'm being mean again.

I have to agree with Jin, I have always maintained that tone is incredibly hard to gauge over text. It seems as if someone doesn't plaster their messages with smilie faces and funny pictures then they're coming across as mad. I suppose that's why smilies were brought in to begin with?

Which would also be part of the reason why I totally OD on smilies.

    Re: Gypsy Elder is my....

Jin's being nice. He's obviously read my posts elsewhere about me thinking maturity is lame and is complimenting me. I would have been offended had he called me 'mature', but he didn't, so everything is fine.

My only point remains that I personally feel better if I can be around the person I'm dating so I can properly comfort them when they're down, have the power to lend more assistance than I could from a distance and just get to know them in a way not possible through the internet alone.

It's not a hard stretch to imagine some people don't need the physical part so much after seeing how happy online relationshps have made some people (including some fellow Australians on these very forums) happy. Granted the lack of the physical relationship part seems to always come up, but some can make it work.

Exactly. A girl isn't my girlfriend if I'm not engaging in cheeky and fun shenanigans with them. I've had plenty a deep convo and flirted with many a girl. By this logic, since I didn't hook up with a lot of them, they could all technically qualify for internet gf's. Physical intimacy is a must, even if it's not straight up knockin boots.

And Block, Batista is such a douche now. It's all about my boy, the Miz

EDIT: For the record, I went back and read what Silver wrote, just in case I missed something, and he actually legitimately said something to insult you. ...I honestly don't understand how you could have really gotten upset by what he said, unless you absolutely took it the wrong way, and tried to read into it.
