I hate how some guys on WoW are all about girls cant play video games,well this one guy didnt actually say that but its kinda along the same lines. It happened on Blackwing lair horde side people thought I was a guy in trade chat so i corrected them and Blighted decided to say "all girls that play wow look like land beasts" I find this really pissed me off,i mean ahs he seen every girl on wow to make that decision? So I whispered him and gave him a piece of my mind in a nice way then put him on ignore,blah I cannot stand people like this
that is the first time i encountered anything like this i usually get "girl gamers are hot" thingy so anything like this ever happen to anyone?how did you deal with it?hehe thanks everyone.

I'm a male so this doesn't really work for me, but yeah the whole girls can't play games well is false. The game world has changed in the last decade, remember when video games were only played by geeks and nerds, now these days everyone plays them. I know many girls, hot ones that plays video games all the time. My ex-girlfriend use to play a lot of Final Fantasy. My little sister which is 10 years old plays games all the time, and shes really good. I went and bought my little sister a GameCube two Christmas's ago. I was online playing Madden 2008 and I met a girl that was 21 that plays Madden, and the funny thing is that she almost beat me (score was 24-20). So the whole girls can't play games isn't true. So I'm against the whole girls can't play video games

I've never really come across a guy that doesn't like girl gamers, I would think they actually embrace it more then they shun it. What guy wouldn't want a guy that's just as nerdy as they are about video games? Saying that though my boyfriend isn't at all into video games but totally accepts that I am, so I guess some people are understanding about girls with games.

I have met a few guys that dont believe I like to play games though, cause I don't "look the type".

I support girl gamers, though it's more along the lines of girls who play video games, and not so much girls who spend 15 hours a day playing. It's the same with guys though. I'm not a fan of people who waste entire days playing video games, unless you're sick or something, then its alright.

To me, it'd just be something else in common, or even a quick out with a girl I'm dating. Kinda like something to do on a night in.

I've never met anyone who thinks that I am not a gamer, and my friends always say that I am really good when it comes to games like FF, Gears Of War, and the Halo series. And my boyfriend always says that I am really likeable because I like the same games as him, but that's is NOT the main reason he likes me. (FYI cuz a lot of people think we like each other because of games which is kinda stupid.)

Bah, I've faced this issue plenty of times in my past. It's funny when you prove them wrong by kicking their ass in some competition. When I was playing WoW, I helped a lot of people out and they'd constantly be mooching off of me. I didn't get no "special treatment" or anything, nor would I want to take advantage of that, because I prefer to gain everything with my own skills. When I kick someone's ass at a fighting game, they lie and say "Okay, I was being easy on you." *Rolls eyes* Suuuure.

I gotta thank my brother for getting me into video games when I was little. He'd always play Tetris, Red Alert, and Mortal Kombat with me, but he'd always win because I was little and didn't work as fast as he did. I'd get extremely pissed off, too, but he'd just laugh in my face. I also spent a great deal of time watching him play video games such Final Fantasy, Suikoden, and Sega games when I was 5. I probably wouldn't have liked RPGs if it weren't for watching him play Suikoden.

I've never had a problem like this. Then again, perhaps it's because I'm not so much of a gamer anymore.

I do find myself talking about games to a lot of different people I meet, but they never really get sexist over anything. Sometimes I mention games I enjoy and it has a good outcome, other times, the conversation just fades.

It's idiotic to shun somebody because of a hobby like this. It isn't hurting anybody.

Unless you play like, every hour of everyday and have no job.

On the server I play on there is this one BloodElf female who just sits outside of Orgrimmer all the time talking to everybody who passes, I don't know whether she plays or its a friends account but she was still 47 all the time I saw her. I don't know if this is true but perhaps this just the mentallity people have when they see them playing (only on for the social aspect). On top of that there are a few guilds on WoW which don't allow females because supposedly they cause too much drama.

However in my own opinion it doesn't mean jack to me, also you can't really tell unless they have a mic. My main account is a female undead warlock, I've been called a she and I don't think people have changed the way they act to me. I think it maybe the server you're on, see people are much friendlier to me on the Oceanic servers than on the US server (Though again it could be due to my character ). Also Alliance is full of newbs where as Horde are a bit more serious (Esp on the RP servers I hear). If you have $25 free I would see about switching servers.

To be honest I hate the whole thing, its just something you have to kind of deal with.

I met plenty of girl gamers when i used to play WoW, and they seemed perfectly normal to me. The whole premise that they cause too much drama seems stupid to me, i can't remember any women causing drama in guilds that i've been in haha... it was always argumentative people like me who did that. Saying that, our Linkshell leader in Final Fantasy XI was a women and she caused drama all the damn time... that was because of her personality though, not her gender XD.

I never really noticed any difference in ability online, but some girls are ****ing legends at console games. Playing street fighter is a good example. Maybe it's how most of the girls I know show great dexterity, whatever the case I know a good many who with practice can hand my ass back to me in a doggy bag. And there ain't many guys who can.

But then I guess it depends on the individual as well. And generalising is never a good thing.

It could be the server because the server where my main is on .y guild embraces me no matter what sex I am. Iwas thinking about moving servers,maybe I will or try out a server and see how people act and whatnot,seems like on this server people are always in a debate or fighting,

This shit pisses me off. If he says that then doesn't same stereotype apply to him? He is a fat ugly ass nerd loser. Not all WOW players are fat ugly nerds. I played WOW for quite some time, but I promise you I am far from the stereotype that people labeled me with.

My brother his friend and I have a mini biz i guess, and we get peoples rank up in games and give lessons for special skills, and all the guys call me the gamer chick because I get the rank up. Which is pretty wierd, i got to admit.

As one who knows. The limits of a human being applying themselves to videogames is only limits in the sense of how much they have geared their mind and reactions to them. I raised my sister to be a true gamer of horrific power. And under my tutelage she surpassed me in several areas of the gaming world. She's much better with action games like Sonic ect... She has even matched me pretty equally Smash Bros-wise.

Thought, I admit she is a complete newbie when it comes to FF games and she gets swamped with even the slightest roleplaying game(including Pokemon) Unless she weilds a guide. Which shames me somewhat.

But she has a true passion for the games and has potential. But in the end, I'll always be better than her because she refuses to play DOOM3. .

Gah, well, I've never gotten that before on a MMORPG, to be honest. Least a ways since the original Dungeon Siege world has been taken over by women (and still is o.o). Certainly, the ratio of girl to guys is different, but that doesn't effect the way we play them. We're just more efficient.

Actually one time, a there was a guy in the middle of a party who declared that a girl couldn't beat him at Star Wars Battlefront II. My sister R.H and I jumped on line. He got the asswhooping of his life in Coruscant. Twice. Serves him right.

I don't mind that they play, I don't mind that the games I know and love have started to become a new way for girls to get attention. I let it slide as the people I am playing with are talking to this girl to find out if she's hot and get pictures of her when we're supposed to be killing monsters and doing awesome shit.

Video games are there for the sole purpose of ignoring girls. Why do they try to ruin that?

If video games were there to ignore girls, why would they appeal to the girl gamer world? Why would they make FFX-2? The woman protagonist, for one definately appealed to this side of the realm. The fact that the storyline was a pretty chic-flick? There are ploys all over the market that make so women play all of the time. In fact, women in fighting games, women having power(like in FFVIII) all appeal to this side of the spectrum.

And you know what? Why shouldn't we play games? What else would we do when we're bored? Knit like an old lady? You could probably easily as stomp a man at any game. And if you say we 'suck' on what premises do you work on? It's not like we're genetically pre-disposed to sucking at them. Seriously.

I've got that a lot when I used to play Runescape. Because I wasn't a noob. I was level 80 when I quit. Random males would come up and say that I must be a male in real life, ask me out or just tell me I must be ugly. I'm yet to get that on WoW however.

Some of my male friends think they are a lot better at games then me because of our gender. So what. I'm sure I could beat some of them.

It's pretty bad sometimes at work too. People don't take what I say seriously and tell me they nee to ask a guy. Who then tells them the same thing. Some people don't even ask me advice. Some shyly come up and ask me if I acutally play games and some hit on me. Ick.

I do see more guy noobs i have to say,no offense. Alot of girl gamers I see and know in game are alot more mature than the males,but thats usually the way it is in life anyway lol.(no offense)

I tend to think it's more a problem of quantity rather then quality, I think it's more to do with how the person is raised in our society and how just socially boys are more inclined towards gaming where as girls are more inclined towards other things; a more social stigma then anything.

But with that being said the quality of the girl gamers even though they are in smaller numbers is really good; actually, even girls with really bad video game coordination seem to have a way of beating me at games, ecspecially arcade fighting games.

Where did you get that statistic? I'm pretty sure you just made it up. To be honest, I didn't meet a single girl in college who gamed. I was the only one in my class, and like, one of three in the whole art department (there were a couple in the graphic art course, naturally). I think the reason you think there are so many girl gamers is because there are a lot of them on the web.

That's what the thread was started off -- the fact that there are a lot less girls who game. I'm not saying 45% of the population is entirely unrealistic, but I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if it were true.

Yeah, those numbers are definitely a bit skewed. Only two people on my floor even have a PS2/Game System. One of them uses it solely for a DVD player. The other only owns Guitar Hero. Can you really call them gamers? Well, I actually didn't bring my PS2. Even still- Maybe 15% of gamers are girls. MAYBE... Even that might be a bit high.

To be honest, though, many more of them are addicted to those unrealistic teeny-boper shows like One Tree Hill or Gossip Girl or the Hills. Blech.

Lol, 38% of gamers are female. Based on some Reuters or Associated Press article I read up a while back for one of my papers. But the distribution and the type of games they play vary. A lot.

Girls are less likely to play shooters a lot because of how immature guys are (seriously, a lot of girls get harassed in online play) but also because of the learning curve. (Co-op is rather nice for that though. Gears 2 ❤) So you won't really see them as much with online gameplay. Things like MMORPGs or RPGs with more storyline tend to have more girls.

Whether or not you meet them depends on a lot of things. Some people leave systems at home so they don't get distracted at school. Or they otherwise game at their boyfriend's or friend's place.

And no offense to any of you, but sometimes I won't say I play games or know about whatever when its mentioned just because I don't want to talk to or associate with that person. Lulz. There are some mad creepy people who game. Srsly.


EDIT - Oh, and there's always that group of girls who starts playing some game just so they can write a bunch of slash fanfiction.
