    Gtfo

Here's a thread I've been thinking about making for a long time. Because I've been feeling this way off and on for quite some time. Ever just wanna get the fuck outta dodge? The day to day bs wearing you thin? When was the last time you went on a good, long road trip? Would you make it as a long haul truck driver?

I've been wanting to go somewhere on a good long road trip for some time. Just wanna drive, wherever. Get out on the highway for a while. See some of the country. It's been since '07 since I've gone anywhere out of state, and this year's camping trip down to Florence, OR-a 2 and a half hour trip-is the farthest I've gone since. Found it a little sad when I was getting back down the home stretch, actually. Albany is a pretty area with lots of trees, but it gets old...

That's why I kinda like my new job; I drive people around for non-emergency medical people (some real weirdos too, and lots of sickly old people, but I won't get too far into that.) The farthest I've gone is about an hour and fifteen minutes north; I'm hoping for a trip across the mountains or the coast... Furthermore, I think a truck driver job would be awesome. Except maybe sleeping in the cab and taking a shower at truck stops... But I do like driving. Anyhoo...

I just rode about 90 miles from my house to the beach via my bicycle. It was tough in some spots, but it was, overall, an AMAZING experience. I would do again this week, but we're still getting some nasty triple digit temperatures and I wanted to save up money because I'm going with my grandparents up to Tahoe (first time ever being up there) and then taking a plane over to see my Aunt in North Carolina (also, never done before).

I LOVE road trips. And yeah, I get the urge to set out on a trip all the time. I fantasize about road tripping to Yellowstone and camping in Lamar Valley. I need a partner for that, though, I don't think I would be quite comfortable at this point doing it on my own.

I was actually in Yellowstone recently with my moms. It was amazing. And even though we drove straight back from Montana (31 hour drive, 3 hour sleep break at a rest stop included), I sort of enjoyed that part too. And my 12-14 hour drives back and forth from Little Rock to Savannah were always enjoyable in a way.

In the spring, I am planning on traveling to various places in the eastern US for music related things. I'm really excited. An extended road trip!

    Re: Gtfo

I went one a mini roadtrip (tldr going out of town to be a wingman for my friend), but one the way back I ended up putting my car in the ditch because of the blizzard like conditions lol, so I have my reservations about going on a real one. I'd like to though, I just don't have anywhere in mind yet. Once I figure it out.... summer roadtrip time? lol

The last long road trip I was on would be last summer when I went to Tennessee. It was alright, but family drama happened and I wound up pretty much sight-seeing by myself for most of it.

But for the most part, I've been on a lot of pretty good road trips. Getting away from the area is always refreshing, even if it's just across the state line to go camping. I've been wanting to do that for the longest time, but just haven't really had much of a chance to do it.

    Re: Gtfo

Years ago I used to go on trips fairly regularly.
Then came the serious years of school where I couldn't miss exams (and had to actually turn up a minimum number of days to avoid an auto fail) and right afterwards I started job seeking and then full time employment where even two consecutive days off is rare.

That said I do plan on asking for a week off later this year for a road trip interstate.
I miss them that much and know a few people down Victoria way who're great.

I propose a TFF road trip, right after the TFF pool party lol
Anyway, I love a road trip, although the longest one I've ever done is about 12 hours South, but my family has been making it shorter and more scenic lately. I really want to do a cross country classic teenage roadtrip in a crappy Winebago (my friends found one called the Jam-bo-ree, and it's perfect lol) but none of us have any money so I doubt that'll happen. Basic 8-4 school day for me until we're all rich

    Re: Gtfo

I'm not really much of a fan of driving for THAT long, but...

I take trips to Rolla or Columbia, MO from time to time (about an hour and a half east or northeast of St. Louis, respectively) and have driven 6 hours up to Chicago, and about 4 hours down to Branson, MO for vacation last spring break.

The fiance and I (and my parents) are planning on driving down to Arizona, about 22 hours away, over my fiance's Christmas break to visit my grandmother and aunt. Her and I are driving seperately to take about a 3 hour drive north to see the Grand Canyon, assuming it's open during the December-January months.

    I miss spontaneity.

Kids kind of put a damper on those types of road trips. We used to have those "Hey! Lets do this!" kind of moments, but not so much anymore. The last road trip that was a semi-fair distance was last summer, about 5 hours. It was okay, bar the screaming kid for the last 2 hours of it.

I used to live for stuff like that though! Can't wait until she's a bit older and we can get back into going places and doing things.

    Re: Gtfo

I haven't been on a road trip in ages, though not for lack of wanting.

Lately, for whatever reason, I've had this sort of obsession with wanting to see more of the DC-Maryland-Virginia region. I'd also love to see Pennsylvania and I'd love to go back to Tennessee one day. The Maritime coast is also on my list; I hear Nova Scotia is beautiful. Anything to get out of the prairies.

But you know, time and money. Do want.

    Until now!

    Re: Gtfo

My last road trip was like a five hour drive... which sucked. Being on with no toilet facilities for about seventy miles... and when you do get to one, it's the most unhygienic place you've ever set eyes on. Not to mention having five people AND everyone's luggage crammed in the car, complete with a three year old who couldn't shut the **** up for five minutes.

Despite that horrible experience, I'd love to road trip again. I've thought about it a few times, and thought about implementing one into my journey when I get to the states. Maybe when I've made my millions, I'll get myself that shiny Harley and ride off into the sunset somewhere.

... but before that, I'd love to road trip to somewhere with a friend or two over here.

    Re: Gtfo

Uck. I hate long drives, all of you people are mad.

I can't sit in a cramped car for hours without any sort of stimulation, I suppose you could say that the British countryside and wildlife should be enough, but I basically live in the countryside in comparison to a lot of Brits. I have 2 trees in my back garden and a the frickin' woods right next to my house. Enough countryside for me, ta.

Also I can't sleep in vehicled, which adds to the boredom after those around you do drop off.

The longest 'road-trip' I've ever been on was to Paris, France. Or a 13 hour drive. Thankfully on this trip I managed to sleep at one point, the furthest I've been without sleeping was to London, 7 hours without traffic.

Ugh, I hate driving long distances.

I used to take road trips all the time.I would often take trips from Louisiana to Kentucky all the time growing up. I haven't been on any good trips lately though. Just fishing, but that was only a 4 hour drive.

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!
