Giving the Gift of Life... In other ways.

So, I'll admit that when I saw the thread I did think that it had something to do with spermies. Aaaaand as evidenced by Loco, I'm definitely not the only one.

So, what do you all think of sperm and egg donation? Would you do it? Would you donate sperm to a close friend? Would you donate it randomly, without having the advantage to be able to check up on where it's going?

Also inspired by a news article I found earlier... I'll dig it up and edit the link in here later, but a few of the staff at a sperm donation clinic were recently fired because it was discovered that at least one of the nurses there was giving clients a 'helping hand' with delivering their donation...

I'd donate to a friend, if they needed it, and wanted mine. I wouldn't feel right donating to complete strangers, since I've got plenty of problems that might or might not be genetically enhanced. But it's one way to make money, and I've got the physical attributes and IQ that people would demand, so I guess I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it. Especially if I went somewhere that "assisted" me, I suppose.

Of course, I would probably rather donate it personally, but I guess if it has to be frozen and such, whatever.

As for the entire idea, I have no problem with it. I'd rather see parents that can't conceive adopt, but if they want to use somebody else's eggs and/or sperm, go for it.

I don't have a problem with the overall idea either, I just don't think that I personally would donate my eggs. Egg-retrieval does not sound like a fun precedure to go through.

    Egg Retrieval

Also, women are born with all the eggs that they'll ever have in thier entire life. Once they're gone, that it (it's not like that with semen, that stuff regenerates pretty quickly). I would be concerned about my chances of conception if I ever decide to have children. That's just me though.

You have to take into consideration that most people are average to begin with, so they wouldn't really be changing anything.

I'd have no problem with people using my swimmers to get knocked up with as long as I get compensated for my donation. Plus, I got some pretty damn good genes. No health problems, nobody on both sides of my family have died under the age of 75, no mental problems other than OCD, which isn't actually genetic, but an anal fixation which can be prevented during childhood. So I'm pretty sure my semen would be a hit, sucka.

Hell to the no. There are already too many kids, adopt one. If I ever have a kid I'll adopt as many as I actually create. Plus that way they get siblings to play with and I don't have to give birth twice. Boom.

But yeah, seriously, I'm not setting me eggs free to contribute to the population problem without my supervision.

Agree. I heard egg harvesting a long and painful procedure, and I have never been healthy enough to go through that stuff. Like Govinda said....adoption is a good route. Although, some men have an issue with wanting to pass on their DNA....as if it was the DNA of kings......so I can see why people do this.
