    Gaming With Mates

I figured it might be slightly interesting to see what people play with their mates locally. Who knows, I might even get some ideas of games to add to the roster...

Down here, half of us still have our Megadrive/Genesis and SNESes and everyone's always down for some Super Street Fighter II and a handful of other classics. We've been playing that shit since we were starting primary school so it's amazing it hasn't gotten old yet.

Nintendo consoles also tend to pop up a lot especially with franchises like Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Mario Party (though only on N64 for the last one) and a few of my newer mates seem to constantly be playing Fifa on the PS3 which I suck at, but it's still fairly fun regardless.

And pretty much everyone I know plays Guitar Hero/Rockband with the only differences being their platform of choice.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

When my best friend comes in town (whom I've known for 20 years now) we generally play some old school 2 player SNES games from our childhood, still trying to track down some of our old PSX favorites neither of us own (Twisted Metal comes to mind)

We also play some co-op or trade off Guitar Hero, or sit down and replay an old RPG, trading off from time to time and throwing out pointers to one another.

We used to play a bunch of Smash Bros melee, then Blaz Blue for a while. Now we pretty much just play the Bad Company 2 demo and hand off the controller after 1 game. We also played Arkham Asylum the same way for a little while.

There's not too many multiplayer games anymore that aren't just online single players. Split screen stuff is dead.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

I enjoy playing video games with other people... it just doesn't happen often. All my friends live too far away, or we just don't have the same gaming interests. This leaves me with the only option of playing people online. Unfortunately, I have about four PS3 games I only bought to play with my friends with, and they see no action. For me it's a little bit of a waste of excitement and money. =|

    We only really used to play one-player video games on the PSOne. Me and my mum spent many hours emerged in Tomb Raider III together, which was a lot of fun. Then there was a time my friend got Tekken 3. She came over for an hour or two, lent me the game, and she never saw it again. I think she forgot... but then again, it would be hard to forget the collectors edition of the game. >>;

I bought Mortal Kombat: Deception shortly after it came out, and there were nights when my nan was away that we'd all stay up playing each other in it. I was good with Kobra and kept pwning my step dad who was supposed to be an A* with Sub-Zero. Moving the PS2 from my room to the living room every weekend was a pain in the ass, but was all worth it. We can't do that any more because my nan doesn't go away as often as she used to. =(

On the PS3... like I said, no action. Last time I played a game with someone was way over a month ago with Sheena, and we played Soul Calibur IV.

    I find it pretty sad that my gaming history only goes back as far as the PSOne. We had a N64, but I remember that getting broken at some point during an argument between my mum and dad... -__-;

    Re: Gaming With Mates

I have a childhood friend that every time he comes into town we make a run through FFVI together. It's weird playing 2 player FFVI and it definantly kills the completion times for me seeing he is always slow to make a move and when he does I have to fix the mistake he just caused haha.

Last weekend was the first time in a long time I actually got to co-op with someone in real life in a long time. We sat down and took down the first 2 chapters of RE5 again.

I am not to big on online gaming either, to much of a hassle to get everything hooked up and going plus it seems like every title I want to play everyone else has it for the Xbox instead of the PS3.

    Meh oh well, good times.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

I don't really have any friends that are big on playing games. They'll play some of my Wii party and sports games if we get bored and don't have anything else to do, but as for actually anything that needs/uses co-op, I'm pretty much alone. So I invest in a lot of single-player titles.

When I was younger, my brothers would play video games with me. Some of my favorites to play with them was Super Mario World, Mario Party, and Mario Kart 64. Now that we're all grown up (physically anyway ), we just moved away from spending any time like that with each other and went about our own lives. So now, I rarely buy any games that are multiplayer, since I don't have anyone to play them with. The games I do have that are multiplayer, I just stick as a computerized character, which gets boring after a while.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

When i'm with the guys, Halo 2 or 3 is normally put on, which I am terrible at! We tend to play the House of The Dead too, and normally a fighter such as Tekken or Dead or Alive. Sometimes we play Smash Bros Brawl, or even take it in turns to play a game like Metroid. With a different group of friends it is normally a Guitar Hero game, and sometimes a fighter (Virtua Fighter or Soul Calibur with them).

I think it is good to play a variety of different games so everyone can have a go at what they are good at and what they enjoy. I do get a bit fed up when people drag Halo out for too long.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

When I was a wee lil lad, me and my friends from the neighborhood always gathered at one of our houses so we could play some Mario Party, Mario Kart, or some Super Smash Bros on the N64. When I lived in the dorms, me and my friends always gathered at my room to play... Mario Party, Mario Kart and/or Super Smash Bros as well, lol.

Besides that, my best friend got me into halo 2 way back in like late 2005, and I've been a big fan of the multiplayer aspect of it ever since. In a reverse of the roles, some of my closest friends I've met through playing random matches of Halo actually. It's kinda cool to meet someone that you've never seen before but only heard their voice over live.

Other then that, I've been a big fan of any multiplayer game, besides the sports games which I suck at majorly. Any time where theres friends and vidya to be played is guaranteed to be fun times.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

I don't have any friends here who really play games. I have a few male friends that do but we have different gaming interests. So I've only ever really played with my brother and my cousins. Which is fine because they are fantastic to play with. But as for friends no. One of my friends bought a DS because I had one and played it a lot. But it wasn't really something that she did with anyone else. It's a shame because I would love to play with other people.

I used to have my 360, PS3, Wii and DS all connected to the net but I moved house and I live in the middle of nowhere now and I can't. Which is pretty sucky but.. I am moving soon so it doesn't matter. When I move in with Martin we are going to play pretty much every game together, It will be good to have a gaming buddy. =]

I got a friend who currently lives in Cali. He comes in every couple months, and when he does we hook up the PSX, and play Tekken 3 for hours. We are both fairly good at it, so it is always an interesting time.

I get online often, and play Halo 3 or COD with my friends. It gets boring sometimes though.

Me, and my friends try to get together once a week, and have a gaming contest for whatever the hell we rent. Tonight is that night, and I went out, and rented Soul Calibur 4. Can't wait to beat the shit outta the guys...

    Re: Gaming With Mates

I play games with people a lot, but most of the time it's not really all of us playing at the same time, there's a lot of watching going on, for example my best friend likes to ply Left For Dead, but that's about the only game she plays so when I go over I usually just watch her play and we just make fun of stuff lol

Or sometimes I'll just watch the guys play because guys are funny when they get all into it. I used to spend tons of time watching my brother play games, I still do, it just depends on what game it is. I used to watch him play stuff like Shennmue, Metal gear, and Resident Evil when I didn't play too many games. Those kinds of games are amusing to watch, like a movie.

Also, everyone should have played Mario Party with like a million people lol that's always fun. Old 64 for the win, I remember people used to fight over who would have to play with the controller that had the jacked up joystick hahah the one where the rubber padding came off and you get to kill your thumb with a metal stick lol.

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

    Re: Gaming With Mates

I'm not too big on multiplayer gaming, but every now and then it can be a blast. Only local multiplayer though. I can't stand playing a game with people I don't know or can't interact with save for a headset.

When I do play, it's usually at someone else's house rather than at my own, which means I'm limited by what they own and what they enjoy to play. Usually it's Modern Warfare 2 or Nazi Zombies. Yeah, we play local multiplayer on Call of Duty with no system links (4 players max). It's actually really fun, but after a while, I get sick of losing. I've never been terribly proficient at gaming competitively. It's like that with most games. Sometimes the Wii actually manages to get turned on for some Virtual Console action - Mario 3, Super Contra, Dungeon Explorer and what have you.

I much prefer co-op games to competitive multiplayer. But again, online makes me yawn.

    Until now!

If you catch me and my friends playing a game, it's definitely got something to do with customization.

The first game we were all hyped up about and couldn't stop playing was Soul Calibur 3. We're huge geeks when it comes to stories and RPs(and drawing), so you can imagine how fond of our made-up characters we are and how fun it is to be able to create them in any game that has customization xD. The next game we started playing a lot was Rock Band 1 and 2. That game has loads of customization features and it was fun "performing" to get all of the money for more clothes and instruments. Oh, and I'm fond of playing the drums and the guitar in that game.

Aside from that, I've played DDR a lot with my family as well as Mario Party on the Wii with my little nieces.. and I can't stand that game anymore. They made me play it with them for hours. .. and hours. .. and hours when I was babysitting. I kept picking Waluigi or Wario cause my nieces kept wanting to pick the pretty ones, lol. The old Mario Parties were better.

Normally when people play games at our place its Rock Band. My guy and I will play with our band when people aren't over, but its nice to get a 4pc going. For his birthday the year I was pregnant we had a bunch of people over and did the Endless Setlist. Took us a couple of hours as we swapped people in and out to give others a break and to be able to drink. Good times!

Sometimes his friends will bring their consoles and smaller TVs going and they'll hook up multiplayer Halo3.

If its me and my friends its normally party games like Boom Blox for the Wii or anything that involves the Wii Fit board.

You can't sit with your friends and play anything but fighters anymore. Which is what has drawn me to the fighter. You used to play Battletoads with your friends. You used to have that friend that complained you were looking at his screen and that was cheating. Now we're on headsets playing games from our respective houses. If I didn't know any better I'd say the video game companies are trying to make us friendless.
Bad Company 2 is about all I play with my friends. That and some sitting around handing off the controller on Heavy Rain.
