I'm going to be honest. The economy here sucks, but probably not as bad as Ireland and the rest of the UK. In about years time, it's hard to tell whether or not it will get better or worse. If you play your hards right and call ahead, make plans and actually stick to that plan, you shouldn't have a problem moving over. It's all about having a plan. It doesn't just go for Florida, but all other places as well.
My question is: Why Florida? Why not California or LA or even Canada for that matter?

Anyway, there's sites you could use to look for jobs over there right now if you wanted. There's no harm in looking now, and even applying to some jobs to see how far you get. Seeing as you're not really going to be there for another year, things could change though.
If I worked there and owned my own business, I'd offer you a temp job for when you were ready. =(

I used to live in Jacksonville, lived there from 1999 to 2010. Asides from the fact it never snowed while I lived there, I can't say it was much different from any other place I've lived.
