Esports!

So, do you think that competitive video gaming should be considered a sport? Do you watch competitive gaming? I personally watch a ton of tournament videos on Youtube of fighting games and Starcraft 2 just blew up the RTS scene recently. I've seen people on comments on Youtube saying things like, "I don't even play this game, but this is really entertaining to watch!" or "You're a fag!" (I know you've all seen the latter of the two at least)
I personally love the idea of people being respected and payed for their talents and the work they put into being the best at something. Even though that something doesn't require being able to sprint around a field for 90 minutes or slam a huge muscle bearing man down to the ground it still takes a ton of skill and time commitment. So what's your two cents about the Esport?

I only kept up on vCoD/CoD:UO tournaments and leagues when I was in them. Other then that no.

When I went to Blizzcon07 I watched the World of Warcraft Arena Tournaments, the Warcraft 3 tournaments and the Starcraft tournaments. Pretty fun to watch it when you are 5 rows in the front.

Oh to answer the question....I don't care if it's called a sport or not. It's a video game.

I may not be down with the dictionary definition of "sport", and I'm too lazy to take 30 seconds to check it, but isn't a sport these days just any game that's competitive? Or need it necessarily involve physical skill? Then of course one could always make the argument that gaming requires a certain degree of physical skill, albeit one that differs from traditional sports. Who knows.

I think eSport is a valid term. Mainly due to 'sport' automatically makes everyone think of competition and a natural winner. Which is what happens with 'eSports' anyways; you have you're contestants battling it out to get enough scores (via hits, destroying their base or lucky headshot et al) to win. The people are paid and there are even champions from the tournaments.

eSports. I wish I was good enough at the ones I enjoy. Then again, it might make it so I don't enjoy it anymore if forced to play over and over and over daily.

If chess is a recognized sport than yea, games are also sport. Shit, some of them require more physical activity than chess. I've seen some tournaments, mostly Starcraft, but that's about it, it would be great to participate in one for a change, but you would have to be talented which I'm unfortunately not =(.

I've seen one for WoW tournaments, he just walks behind them yelling out what's going on and reminding his team what the hell is happening. Like "ICE BLOCK 10 SECONDS COME ON COME ON!"
