I heard that if you die in dreams, you die in real life. Is it true? Also, why is it that when you're in danger in your dreams, you always seem to wake up?

As for myself, I don't really believe in such nonsense. How can you die in a dream and wake up dead. This thread is just for asking people what they think and if anyone has ever had a dream where they died. If you have, tell me about it. This is just something I heard about and I just wanted to clarify things.

Do you honestly believe that, Thief? It's a lie. I have died in dreams, and here I am. I've watched my lower have become ground into a mess by a machine, I've seen myself lose my head. I've cut off my own penis in a dream once and ate it, then died from blood loss.

Also, you don't always wake up when you are in danger. I don't, anyway, and I am quite sure I am not the only one.

Personally, I don't know if this is true or now. In my years of existence, I've had dreams where I came close to dying in them. But I never actually died in them. I've had a few dreams where someone was after me or this one time where I was falling off a cliff and heading towards the ground. When I was just about to hit, I just woke up all sweaty and looking around if it was really happening.

And there was this one time where I was sleeping, but I wasn't really asleep. Sounds complicated. >< But I was having this dream where I felt something sharp crawling up my skin and tearing my flesh. Sort of like a knife. Some parts are a bit misty but I could feel my body trying to wake myself up from this dream. I remember I was moving my arms and legs which were really hard to do. But after a while, I managed to wake myself up and I was scared shit that night. I must've been on some sort of meds at that time where I was sleeping like that. It was just weird.

Same with dying when you do body paint.

But anyway, no, it's not true. I've actually died once before in one of my dreams. Not really going to say how, though. Kind of sexually explicit. ...As are 85% of my dreams. >.<;

I've heard of the 'die in your sleep die in real life' theory but never was sure about it, cos i always wake up when im about to die, but from what Anathematised Anachronism and mistress sheena said, it doesn't appear to be true.

How could you prove something like this on a tv show though? For one thing, you can't make people dream of dying and even if they did, how would you know they aren'tjust saying they did?

I got shot right through the heart in the library that would become that of the school I went to for high school in a dream when I was twelve years old. Popped my clogs, as you do when you get a bit o' lead through the heart. Of course, at the time I'd never seen the place before. When I walked into that building for real when I hit high school the next year I thought, "Oh, cool. I died here in a dream last year."

Seemingly, I lived to tell the tale.

And how would they know? If it were true, anyone who proved it would be a corpse.

No, I haven't had any where I died. Almost died, yes. Falling.. being chased.. but at the last minute, I get an ability like flying or using magic. The interesting dreams that I DO have feel very real and don't involve death. I've had a few spooky dreams, though. My sister died in one.. it ended up being a room of torture that changed settings every few minutes. Dunno what happened to her, but the door made a click sound with me on the outside, and I just knew she died. I had dreams of my dad dying as well. He stepped on a board in a train and the plank went through his body..that one freaked me out a tad.

I must be remarkably lucky in my dreams. I've never been killed or injured at all. I may have been chased by the odd colossal prehistoric lizard, or watched as everybody around me spontaneously combusted, or even starred in 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes', but nothing potentially 'physically' damaging...

It is silly to believe such things. I usually have dreams where I'm falling. I don't usually die, but sometimes I hit the floor and wake up. As for dying dreams, I don't usually have them. When I do, I wake up and I'm okay. I usually wake up before I actually die, though.

Death in a dream usually indicated a change to a part of your personality, or the end of an era in your life. It doesn't literally mean that you die in real life.

If you see yourself dead in a dream, though, then that can mean something different. For example, Abraham Lincoln saw himself dead in Ford's Theater days before he was assassinated in Ford's Theater, almost as if it were some kind of keen intuition.

I heard this as well, and I think it's half true. It's an interesting concept that dreams usually have an effect on your subconscious... sometimes they're literally about something you're experiencing, or somebody you know... but a lot of dreams appear to signify some kind of psychological look into the subconsious.

That said, I had this recurring dream from the ages of five to eight, and it was the same dream every night for all those years. In it, I get squished by a car when I'm two. Clearly that didn't happen.

I have been hit by cars a couple of times since then, though.

Also, I was clinically dead once for entirely unrelated reasons.

I used to have dreams where I battled zombies. Not like Thriller Zombies, though. That would have been too cool. And then I could have danced. I'm a Dancing Queen!

For years, though, I've had the typical falling dream. It usually happened where the last high place I was, ie the Sears Tower, the St. Louis Arch, roller costers, etcetera etcetera. And I always died. One night though, I woke up right before death.

That's how I learned I was a Sleep bungie jumper. Hoo boy.

I've had dreams where I was being suffocated - my total, worst nightmare - and I've died... and then I kinda saw the people who killed me take me away, so I was definatly dead.

I've had a dream (bearing in mind, this is one of the dreams I had when I was really young) that people were stealing the tele in the living room, and I tried to stop them, and endded up being shot. And yeah, I'm pretty sure I was dead.

I've had a dream when I fallen from a great hight, and endded up impaled on a large tree branch... And another when I've been decapitated by The Rock in the film The Mummy Returns... And another when...

Enough! My point is, I've died sooo many times in my dreams. When you think about it, if that rumor was true, then I wouldn't be typing now. Unless some necromancers have been bringing me back... Which IS highly unlikely lol!

Verdict: Untrue. PROVED!

when I was 2nd grade I was dreaming that I was with my class swimming in somekinda pool, but I didn't swim. I was with my friend Kate on somekinda tree, then I looked down and I saw somekinda little-round warning sign with dolphin on it (like don't jump into water) and then I picked it up and suddenly a nun appeard, with white-pale face, smiling wide with sharpy teeth, she was floating like a ghost but she was made of blood and flesh, and no eyes. she was trying to take my soul or something, and when I was running from her, she touched me and she tooked my soul (and I was dead in the dream) and then I woke up. Then few years later I dreamed that same nun, but it was different story. I was with my friend Kate again on somekinda big valley(like there's no end of it) and then I ran into a boy from my class, and when he pumped the tires of some stand, I picked up again that warning sign with a dolphin on it, and then the big building apperad and just behind the corner the nun appeard and then I said: "Hey wait, didn't you took my soul?" And then she screamed like hell, I actaully heard the scream. I was so freaked out that I woke up and asked my dad was I screaming, he said:"No, why?" I said nothing.

this isn't a dream or something, it's more like of a story when people were believing in fairies, witches, ghosts and bla bla.

my gramma told me, when her grandpa was going somewhere, he heard something was behind him. so, he went forward, and as he was going forward something was going forward as well, and when he would stop, something would stop too. so he turned around to see what it is, he saw a white horse, on the horse was the man without his head, and the man was holding somekinda sword, and how the sword was dragging on the ground, from the sword was going a lot of sparks.

I think that the whole notion is false, although you could die in sleep when coincidentally dream-dying. I died MANY times. Most of the time someone is chasing me with a ridiculously dangerous weapon (most of the time it's sharp) and I run. I then find myself by a cliff and enjoy my last moments. It is actually a fun experience! I'm falling and feel my consciousness regaining itself from my feet up (I don't know why...). I wake up and I feel fine. Except the one time when I put my electric blanket up to 24 when the reccomended setting was 4. That was one weird dream. Woke up sweating and scared of clowns. (Yes, clowns are scary. Disturbing is actually a better word that scary.) I MEAN I WAS CHASED BY CLOWNS WITH AXES!!! No place to jump. So, I became a martyr. AHEM as I was saying, unless I am dead now, that notion is false. (~UUG~ I hate clowns. HATE 'EM!)

Actually,you will be surprised. Theyve done studies on this and its been proven. I cant remember exactly what happens but I know your heart rate speeds up when your dreaming your falling or whatever and its pretty much liek you suffer a heart attack. I'll try to find the actual details and post more about this. If I have a dream about death its usually about me trying to kill myself. I know thats scary but i'm not suicidal,anymore anyway. But its always about me and my mom fighting i usually slam the door and try to kill myself i actually had a dream like this the other day and when i wake up my hearts racing like crazy and of course i'm freaked out. Ive also had dreams about my grandmother(whos deceased) about her dying. Or shes a ghost inmy dreams and i try to talk to her but cant and she wont answer me. Its scary.

I do believe that if you die in your dreams you die in your sleep. One of the scary dreams where I commited suicide and i was almost dead cause i remember hearing my mom in the dream trying to revive me,my heart felt like it did stop and there were tears streaming down my face when i woke myself up so i dunno death is just a weird thing anyway,who knows?

I've heard similar, so I'd say the theory is plausible. But I think it would depend on the type of sleep as well as possibly how you died in the dream. I'm fortunate enough to not remember ever dreaming about carking it, but I've noticed a few people over here who get those dreams seem to be kind of insecure IRL, though never heard of one carking it. Whether it's just coincidental or there is something to it, I couldn't honestly say.

I get the feeling the closest thing I've ever experienced were a few weird dreams, usually in different styles composed of me watching a world be completely destroyed from some other plane of existence, with no way of doing anything. What disturbs me a little is I didn't seem to really care about what was happening to those on the world, completely apathetic. I found that kind of creepy...

I guess you could die from arrythmia if your body gets too jumpy while you're sleeping. But at the same time, I cannot tell you how many times I have 'died' in nuclear explosions in my dreams. I feel like I'm on fire, and then I feel like I am dust, and then I'll mostly see (from beyond the grave, I assume) someone I love go all up in flames too.

I've never had a falling dream though. I have a lot of dreams where the world is literally upside down and I have to cling to stuff to stay where I am.

But still, I don't think you can really die from dreaming - besides which, we'll never actually know. Maybe people have died from a dream, but they'll never wake up to tell anyone about it. It is impossible to prove, unless scientists have some new super machine that can scan people's dreams. Maybe people have died in dreams, but who knows what it was.

Yeah I heard that one, I never knew if it was true or not. I have had dreams where I've nearly died but always woke up just before I did. It's strange how that works! I usually have that dream how I am falling off a cliff but wake up just before I hit the ground, it's quite a fright too. It's good to know that it's been proved to be false though, I haven't heard of someone actually dying like that anyway.

I know of a woman who broke her back while sleeping though, woke up screaming in pain. Charming. Don't know how she did it but she did.
