So, I've noticed that everytime I join a forum and put down something I don't like and someone else DOES like, some shmuck gets mad and sends me a pm that I can only assume they believe will change my mind about whatever it is I don't like. Thing is, it's always done the same way. They childishly chew me out, state how they think its great and I'm wrong and I should like it because they think it's the greatest thing ever, sometimes telling me I'm a homosexual in various ways. Thing is, and I've noticed this with every single one, they never give any details to back up their arguement. It's like they think calling me names and getting mad at me will suddenly make me go "You're right! Such-and-such IS wonderful! I have been so stupid not to like it." I mean, if someone is going to tell me I'm wrong, is it too much to ask that they ellaborate on WHY I'm wrong so I can actually consider their standpoint and maybe my own on the subject. That's not asking too much, right? I'm all for a bit of debate here and there, but it's not really a debate so much as someone throwing a hissy fit because someone doesn't agree with them. Does this only happen to me? Really, I'd like to know.

The only thing I really have to say to you is, welcome to the internet man. People are gonna nitpick no matter what, and as you said won't back shit up often, brush it off and go about your day. And if you are really tired of it report them to a mod.

I'm mostly just ranting to get it out of my system. I've noticed this on all forums is all and it seems silly. The one I got on this forum was some girl that got mad because I didn't like Advent Children and harshed on Cloud. The stupid thing was, her only arguement was that I needed to watch it again and somehow this would make me change my mind. That's it, that was her only response to what I had to say. How is that even an argument? Or a point for that matter?

I actually got negative rep AND a harshly-worded private message from a member here because I once had as my avatar a picture of the three firearms I owned at the time. That was probably the one I got for the least reason, but I've probably gotten dozens, at LEAST, of negative comments in rep/PM/VM from people who disagree with me most are concerning political or religious discussions, but every once in a while I'll say something about FFVII being overrated and somebody decides to get pissy and for some reason assumes that I care what they think about it.

As has been said, it's the internet. Some people haven't figured out that there are many in this world that are, well, stupid. And sometimes, disagreeing with these people apparently makes you a Nazi, or a racist, or a sexist, or even a homosexual. I've never been able to follow the "logic" in that, but oh well.

If you never piss anyone on the internet off, you're not doing enough.

I got this gem from Xanatos "I ****ing hate FFVII fanboys who's biggest defense is "OMG, you're stupid, FFVII iz tha best game evaaaa!!!, such as yourself" and another one telling me to "get some taste" because I think FFXIII is way below par when it comes to the usual (up to FFX (or XII-debatable)) standard of the Final Fantasy franchise. This is the first time Ive ever joined a Forum let alone any kind of social network. I did not come here to make friends. Now that I think about it, I really liked tactics for ps1. Other than tactics and 7, the rest were garbage.

As for the topic at hand, the last forum I was on thought me to not really pay attention to that sort of things, but to be honest, TFF has to be the place where I got least negative feedback even though I more than deserve it sometimes. The weirdest message I ever received is definitely by Locke4God about some tranny porn, as for negative rep, surprisingly by a moderator who didn't like me voting him or her down in one of the elimination games.

Yep. Every once in a while I get a little bit of hate whether it be in a thread,pm,vm,etc. Recently I got negative rep from someone on this forum right after the TFF Elimination because I voted them down? Wow,I was one of the first people out and I didn't send negative rep to the people who voted me down. Oh well,I have been chewed out many a time through PM and on a thread but..what can you do? Life goes on..

I don't think I've ever had any hatemail but I have been given a negative rep just for liking a band. I posted in a thread giving my opinion on how I liked them and had a neg rep saying "No." It was about four years ago and I'm sure it's the last neg rep I received. I remember it because it really did not make any sense to me, some people just don't know how to accept other's opinions. It's not the neg rep that bothered me, because back when I was a noobie I got tons of it lol. It was the only one that made me think "wow, some people really are stupid".

I've had a bit of hateful comments on youtube but they're quite funny because most of the time they come from people who are younger than I am (or seem it anyway) and don't have any real argument towards me, they just sprout nonsense.

I can honestly say that this has never happened to me. At least not on forums or forum related. Any flaming I get is RL related and sucks just as bad. (That is if you don't count the TFF Eliminations, there was no flaming/hate mail involved in that. It was just the luck of the draw and so on.)

Give and you will receive. Treat others as you would like to be treated. The internet world is a lot different then real life. People aren't afraid to speak their mind here, and you have to be mindful of that. If you post in an argument and something else ensues as a result, and blows up into something else, all I can say is be prepared. Everyone has a different opinion in this world and will stand by their opinion. It really depends on the person you're in said argument with. If things get too heated, back away or defuse the situation. It isn't worth the stress in the long run.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it causes me stress. I usually just ignore the stupid and eventually something shiny will catch their attention and they forget about me. I have only twice gotten pm's arguing a post that I made that I can honestly say I was impressed with. We even pmed back and forth for a while in a strange kinda debate that never descended into childish name calling. I do, however, find it hard to believe there aren't more people like that out in the world. Does no one appreciate a good debate of opinion anymore?

Correction to this. In concerns to pms you have to go to an smod or above. Standard mods don't have the ability to give non post related warnings outside of the general verbal scoldings.

I have received a lot of hate mail / pms since before I was a mod. Its gotten worse since I took over a moderator spot. Given my experiance with moding other forums I knew what to expec and have no problem with it.

I still have to laugh when people blatantly violate the rules of the forum and still cry in the responce to the warning they receive in accordance. My favorite responces are the whole "I didn't know that was against the rules" or "I have never seen these so called rules"; even though they had to agree to them before their membership can be activated and they are linked in the welcoming PM and stickied to every area of the forum. Glad we the staff hide things like that so well.

Then again the staff here are th devils of the net right? Then to quote playa douches, "hatas gonna hate".

Ok enough ranting.

I would love to get into some sort of debate. My problem is that I don't have the time to stick around long enough to read and put time into writing a post that's witty enough to debate about. I also don't have the patience for it if the topic becomes debatable. That's probably why this hasn't happened to me. I'm too lazy, don't care too much (unless its final fantasy related) and I just don't have the time.

Most of my posts here are in threads that happen to catch my attention. Other than that I don't bother.

The lack of a good debate comes down to this;
Those who are intelligent enough to form an arguement based on historical fact and completely clear of logical fallacies tend to agree with each other.
While those who are not intelligent enough to do it ignore facts and state catch phrases and chant slogans.

Debate is more rare in a real world setting than most probably think. That political crap is just a show.
