Do you all still buy birthday/Christmas presents for your friends?

Do you still buy gifts for your friends during Christmas and on their birthdays? If so, what do you usually get them? If not, do you feel bad? Have you ever made a handmade gift?

How about for yourself? Do you expect to get presents from your friends?

As for me, I try to IF I have the money to buy gifts for all six of my best friends. You'd think that you knowing them for ten years will be enough to know what to buy them. Nope! Sometimes I'll come up with a great gift idea I know for sure they'd like, but it's mostly iTunes gift cards, video game cards for their favorite MMO, or money. I'm a cheap bastard. I love them to bits though. Lol.

I can say that for one of them who I see as the sister-I've-always-wanted, I'd go the extra mile for. She does the same back too.

I don't expect anything from my friends. Part of the reason due to being able to purchase some of the things I want and it's uncomfortable opening gifts in front of them. I'm just satisfied with them greeting me!

Yeah I do especially on their birthdays lol one of my friends has their birthday on christmas so I spend a lot more. I love of the idea of giving them a handmade gift alongside an expensive one just so they don't think I'm being a tightass XD Luckily most of my friends are females. I just find it difficult to pick out gifts for guys. Ive never bought clothes as presents unless they've picked out a certain piece that I can remember. Usually for girls I'll buy jewellery, cute quirky notebooks & antiques, handbags, mp3 players, DVDs you know anything along those lines.

For myself I don't like getting presents. Im not being modest..I don't hate it..but it makes me uncomfortable although I really love n appreciate the gesture. Im so much more thankful that they try to make me feel better when I feel like shit. Im happy with the friends I have so I don't care to make new ones everyday. The best present Ive ever received was from a group of them and they put a collage of photos of all of us together! I loved it so much. And I love it when they buy me video games. But not FFXIII. Fk that shit.

When I have the disposable income to do so, yeah, I do. Unfortunately that's practically never. Every plug nickel I earn outside of Amazon mTurk goes straight to survival.

I don't really expect to get gifts from friends. If I get 'em, great. If not, a phone call or even an FB post saying Happy b-day is totally cool with me, since at the very least I make sure to do the same.

Re: Do you all still buy birthday/Christmas presents for your friends?

I will always send at least a birthday card, if I remember; it's usually up to sodding Facebook to remind me, although my Yahoo account gives me a heads-up much earlier. I only send birthday presents to my immediate family (mum, dad, nan) and my closest friends, and children as well. I have been invited to a few birthday get-togethers of colleagues lately, and have bought them a card each. I got one of the guys a present, as he was a big help when I had some difficulties with my ex a few months back.

I go all-out at Christmas, though, even though I know I shouldn't. I try and stick to a budget of no more than £10 per person, but I do end up going over, especially on my parents (although my dad is easy; a £2 war DVD is usually enough), and I always buy 'special' (i.e. not from bulk boxes) cards for all my family; aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I get those cheap, and it's fun trying to remember everyone.

EDIT: That reminds me, it's my friend's birthday this month, and I resolved to make him a curry; only thing is I haven't been practicing... :/

Re: Do you all still buy birthday/Christmas presents for your friends?

I have a lot of trouble remembering birthdays, so I just stick with the seemingly random birthday wishes on Facebook. For Christmas (or whatever holiday they celebrate) I will only get the really good friends something. My list of people I get presents for is small, because I am really selective. Last Christmas, I gave presents to three people. One to a childhood friend, one to someone who is no longer a friend, and myself.

I don't expect presents from friends. I even specifically tell them to not get me anything. For most of my friends, their money is tighter than mine, and I don't want them to get me anything if it means depriving themselves of something.

No gifts on Christmas, even though you can exchange gifts with others it's not really customary to do so here on Christmas. Birthdays are different story though, I only give presents to members of my family, with friends I usually go out for a drink on such occasion.

At the moment, I only have one best friend and I always get her something for Christmas and for her birthday. I don't see much of the people I once called my best buddies, and I rarely see her, but we're two friends who'll never drift apart no matter the distance.

Nope, it's never really been my style to get friends gifts, unless they were having a proper party, where gifts were expected/ required. Usually, we'll all just go out to the bar and the birthday boy or girl will drink for free. Back in college, when I wasn't around my friends, we'd do a small gift exchange, usually stupid movies.

Personally, I'm just happy if people remember my birthday, especially since it's not on facebook... then again, it is on TFF, but still. It's kind of a little mark to see who remembers and pays attention, when they remember it when it's not posted.

Re: Do you all still buy birthday/Christmas presents for your friends?

I do, but only for three of my friends. It's generally only reserved for really good friends; although I sometimes give really small gifts to my friends who aren't my best friends. It's nice when the gift is something really meaningful. It's doubly awesome when they're hand made too. It's too easy to just go into a store and buy something expensive. If it took a long time to find it, or you made it, then I'll probably value it a whole lot.

Speaking of which, my birthday is in two days. I expect presents from you all.

I'll do it every once in a while for whatever reason. Most recently, I drew my friend a comic strip, made him a CD, and bought him a beer. He was happy with all three. I like making mixed CD's and drawing stupid crap for fwiends <3 Anyhoo...

It's kind of hard to remember all of your friends birthdays and get them gifts so I only give to those I'm really close to.

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

I'll buy them a gift card to a store that I know they frequently shop at plus a birthday card. Always a card but maybe just money to go along with it if I'm not sure what store to get a gift card for.

No not really, don't buy presents or cards for anyone except my parents and brother, I don't expect anything from my friends either, usually we would just celebrate with a few pints anyway (much more quality than a boring old card )

I have a small group of friends that I do this for each year. We all were very close in high school, but moved far apart after. It is our way of staying close. We all buy gifts, and go to each others house. Last year I went to Cali, and this year Christmas will be held at my house.

In all honesty, I have Sean's philosophy. I only buy for immediate family really, that and my girlfriends' family. I like to receive but not too much, lest it become awkward. And I don't feel comfortable with expensive gifts - although I am looking forward to Saturday when I turn 23 because when I do get gifts especially from home, it'll feel like a lot more effort went into it. Everyone should get a day to feel special I suppose.
