Converting?

Can anyone suggest a fast video converting program that I can download free from the internet? I want to convert a very large file over 8GB. The current converter I have is estimating about 20 hours to convert. I need to convert it much quicker then this. Any suggestions welcome.

But regardless of what type of converter you have, doesn't it ultimately depend on the actual specs of your pc?

I mean an 8GB video file would take awhile regardless, wouldn't it?

I use AVC, or Any Video Converter, it's a free download, and it seems to work pretty good so far. Good luck, Joleine

I have downloaded a film and I'm trying to convert it into WMV format and my laptop turns off before the converting is finished. does anyone know a faster video converter (I have AVC and Prism) and both are too slow. If anyone knows could they please message me. Or if anyone can tell me a way of using an mp4 format video in movie maker how do I do it? Either way would be fine thanks.

Change your settings so your laptop doesn't go to sleep when it receives no input. That's a huge file, 20 hours sounds like a reasonable amount of time. Your stuck just letting it run.

I have downloaded a smaller file of the film it's just under 2gig. AVC does work but as before I use prism my laptop decides to turns of about 15 minutes into the conversion and every time I try it It shuts down after 15 minutes so I am going to need one that can convert it under 15 minutes.

Why does your computer shut down? Check that your settings are set so that your computer doesn't go to sleep when it receives no input. It's not the converter.

locke4god I have already done that my computer does not go to sleep cause I disabled it. It just turns of completely no shut down power just goes after about 15 minutes of converting.

Has your laptop shut down at any other time? Do you play games on it? If so, what kind of games? The processing power used when converting media (which isnt a great deal, admittedly) might be causing your laptop to overheat and shut down.

No I don't play games on my laptop never have . I use my laptop for checking my e-mails making my final fantasy video WMV'S Facebook and making my ff quizzes on fun trivia and posting threads on here that's all.

Could be your laptop just can't handle converting large files like that.

It sounds like your laptop is having trouble handling all the work, or maybe it's just shitting the bed on its own. Do you have access to a pc or can you borrow someone elses laptop for a day to try to do the work? That'd be a better judge if it's a problem with your laptop or not.

Also, have you tried breaking the files into smaller groupings, if possible? Maybe take a few clips at a time to convert instead of everything at once. It might be enough of a smaller demand on your laptop to make it more feasible

I can't split it. It is one whole film and I can't use movie maker to split it. Unless any one can suggest a program I can download that will split the film for me then I can possibly do it.

Hi everyone I finally managed to do it. It was just my laptop overheating because the fan was dusty and in my laptop case it was covered. Once I moved it from my case no problem at all. Thanks for the advice and the people who tried to help.
